  • The Williams Brothers could be funky and still be traditional too, They could do traditional numbers like If It Wasn't For The Lord, Amazing Grace, and At The Cross and do contemporary numbers like Somethin About King Jesus, Sweep Around, and Still Here.

  • StarBrown1 is so correct about the funk -- Williams Brothers were often funky, andt that is part of their appeal. They were adventurous enough to stretch the definition of gospel, but had the genius to do it in a way they didn't threaten traditonal gospel audiences. This sounds like Gladys Knight and the Pips could have done it!

  • The one on the far right is Leonard.MY good friend. We speak oftentimes even now...

  • Please Load Up Let God Get Involved The Other Super Number

  • One of the highlights of this album was this and a song called I'll Fly Away.

  • Calm it down believers:

Left to Right: Henry,Doug, Melvin, and Leonard

Top: Maurice (currently of the Jackson Southernaires)

Yes, the Late Frank Williams (Jackson Southernaires) and Huey Williams (Jackson Southernaires) are older brothers to Doug, Melvin, and Leonard.

  • @cbassman46 So it Maurice a Williams family member also? And do you know if Green is related to them?

  • @temptsfan2 Maurice is not related to the Williams Brothers; his father David Surrell sang is a former member of the Jackson Southernaires;he played drums and sang with the WB over 14 years;he joined the JS in 1982;he has been a member and drummer for over 20 years.

    Henry Green is not related to the Williams Brothers;he has been with the WB since he was 18 years old;Pop at that time needed a tenor that could sing his style;Green was the fit;Pop asked and the rest is history;

  • @cbassman46 Thanks for the info. Enjoy your Christmas!

  • Are you sure this isn't Doug? Cause Doug sounds like a bariotone version of Frank. I've heard Melvin sound just like Frank but he mainly sings in his own voice. So I could believe it's Melvin, but it might be Doug.

  • MR GREEN..DOUG..MELVIN..LEONARD..AND MAURICE IN THE CAB CAR

  • LOVE IT, LOVE IT, SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Melvin is leading this song.

  • I love any song they put out from way back then til this day. I'm 38 yrs of age and I've always love the William Brothers from the day I was able to hear and understand. You all are great and anointed by God keep singing. Lisa C. Murray

  • Leonard was one of the baddest bass players in quartet gospel. You knew him when you heard him. The same with Lary of the Keynotes. These guys had identity!!!

  • @BurrBattle wowi dint know that friend, any particular song of theirs i can hear him on? thanks

  • @mastertung7 If you can find The Soul Stirrers album "A City Called Heaven", listen to Friend in Jesus or Love the Lord. It was on a record label called 601 in the 80s. The songs had Leonard's awesome groove! If you check the credits on alot of the Soul Stirrers and Evereadys records from the 80 you'll find that the Williams Brothers and Jackson Southernares played much of the music. If you listen to Revived of the Evereadys, you can hear Paul Peter's famous bass slide throughout the song.

  • yes frank williams is not on this picture frank never sang with them during this time a lot of people get leonard and frank mixed up but look at the noses frank has a hump on his nose and leonard has a beard

  • You're almost right. From left to right: Henry Green, Doug Williams, Melvin Williams, Leonard Williams, and Terrell "Midge" Gatlin (he was the bass player, not Leonard).

  • lenard was the original basses. terrell was their lead player in the begining

  • From left to right its: Green, Doug, Melvin, and Leonard and the guy at the top is Maurice Serrell( the drummer) not Terrell Gatlin aka Midge...Midge has never been on their covers

  • Thats not Frank on the right side thats the other brother Leonard the bass player and 2nd tenor singer...Frank was apart of the jackson southernaires when the williams brothers recorded this

  • Well, my Daddy said that was Frank on the far right. So, I trusted him. But I do know that Frank still sang on some of the Williams Brothers' projects after he was in the Jackson Southernaires.

  • Is this the same Frank Williams that sang with the early great Rev. James Moore and the Mississippi Mass Choir?

  • Just because your daddy said it doesnt mean that its right! Havent your daddy been wrong bfore? He is human right?

  • Don't talk about my daddy ;)
