Sono sempre più convinto che la Ricciarelli fu per molti aspetti la Netrebko degli anni Settanta. In antrambi i casi abbiamo un bellissimo mezzo vocale e aspetto fisico molto attraente, il tutto gettato via a causa di superficialità, mancanza di studio e soprattutto smisurata presunzione.

Even though she wouldn't sing it - I still would love to have heard Freni sing the Tourandot parts.. her Butterfly is an example of what she could do on recording that she didn't sing on stage
You know I really liked Ricciarelli when she was young, however at this date.. she had already pushed her voice, and MADE it larger, and it wasn;t exactly in tune either.. flat on many of the A flats and definetely the final B flat. Her technique is in keeping with Italian sopranos that are so preoccupied with that bright Ah sound .. that they sing too far forward, and they lose intonation, The same things happened to Freni, Tebald Olivero.Caballe, sang like an italian, even if she was spanish

Excellent version. Ricciarelli is SO MUCH better as Liu than in her recording where she sang Turandot. That pushed her voice beyond its limits and often got strident and wobbly. Here, her sound is full and beautiful, rich and easy. Excellent for this role.

In the video I saw of Caballe doing this, she didn't do the "ah, pieta" at the end. I really like the way Katia does that part... it is just perfect to me.
lol How can anyone give me a thumbs down for this? It happens to be a fact that I DID see a video on here and Caballe didn't sing "pieta". She sang "ahhhh" and kept singing that all the way through to the end. Must I post links to the vidoes for you? She was great. I simply happened to notice that she didn't say "pieta" and I happen to like Katia's "pieta" very much. If you have a video of her singing "pieta", I would love to hear it so that I may make a more educated comment.
