I have a '96 1.3 automatic and go to work about 50 miles round trip every day. I'm not sure about the mpg but I know that I can fill it up on Monday morning and still have a bit less than an 1/8 of a tank by Friday evening. Stuff that in your clutch and choke on it and quit hating on the automatic...
i don't know but you can get an acura integra or honda civic which are economical yet fast i have an acura integra and i took me 8 seconds to get to sixty and yet it maintains the economy but geo metro is a piece of junk cause i remember my dad having one and when wegot our new car he was so happy that it was going away
@FSXairpilot Just because daddy didnt like it doesnt mean it wasnt a good car, that just means he didn't know how to drive it, or he didn't take care of it. I almost never fill up btw.
pfft.. a manual shift ford focus can get gas milage like that and there quicker! and if ford was smart and made the focus with ecoboost, it;d proble get better milage!
I have thought of selling mine to get a Chevy Aveo. So tell me someone on here, the Aveos are crap? If that's so, then, i will keep my Geo forever & ever. When the gas needle on the fuel gauge in the car is not far from E, right? Well, i give the guy a 5 dollar bill on pump 1. It fills it right up to the half tank mark, even with it! Let's see a Saturn or a Honda do that. LOL NEVER!
So the Chevy Aveo is junk from what some of you say? Wow, i better stick with my ' 94 Geo Metro. :) It's an automatic and gets 35-40 mpg. Lately, i just recently had the timing belt changed as the old one got worn out. It was probably from '94 & was the original one that came on it. I hit a deer Christmas of '08 on my Geo Metro. With a little help from the salvage yard & other places, i eventually got it running again. Mine is a 3 cylinder Metro.
I saw that exact Geo, the red one, on Craig's List and the dickhead never answered his messages. I did finally get one, but it only gets 30 - 35MPG. I checked the plugs, cap, rotor and tires, but they're all good. Can anyone give me a tip. Its a '96, 1.3L, Automatic.
Thats about as good as you are going to get with the 1.3L/Auto. I have a 2001 with the same setup as yours and mine has been about 33-38 MPG. Automatic transmission will cut a lot of highway mileage out because there is no overdrive.
The 1.3 sucks dick as it is, ad an automatic and they are even worse, you might as well drive a honda civic if you get a 1.3 auto, the 1.0 and .9 liter 5spds are the ones that see 50-55mpg and are reliable as hell, if you are going to ride in a car that small and dangerous you better get good mileage other wise they are useless and deadly to boot, But any Geo metro is better then the chevy aveo, those are a strait up POS slow no good mileage and have many issues.
yeah, I wish they were all 1.0 5spds LOL, My geo is goint to die soon, I already had to fix the front end where they rust out and its getting worse, the rear bumper fell off the other day, the mounts rotted off, the rocker on the drver side is almost gone, Im going to miss that car, just hit 170k last week and got a new timing belt and water pump, Ill have to fix the rust and keep it going for another year.
On the bright side, when the geo does rot to the point of extinction Im yanking the motor trany drive train wheels everything, rebuilding the motor getting a cam build a header and building up the motor getting a new clutch and building a Go Kart for the geo motor, the car will live on LOL.
@klide263 Well it was a hell of a lot better than my '91 plymouth acclaim with 200k miles
and it has 78k miles... 47mph sounds good to me... and I hope it will go atleast 40k more without major work...
replacing the cv joints, air filter, all fluids with amsoil, and amsoil oil filter. after all this and an alignment i expect some decent mpg and reliability.
@klide263 the 1.3 gets better mileage than the 1.0, i had both in 5spd form and with the 1.0 i had to use more gas to get up to speed, the 1.3 doesn't work as hard with the 5spd
also i've driven an Aveo and compared to a Metro, it's fast and gets almost the same mileage
@klide263 i have a '92 metro that got 49.4 mpg around town on short trips my last fill up. 1.0l 5 spd. bought it for 350 bucks and it only had 130,000. rough interior and the guy wasnt very mechanically inclined. only issue was the radiator fan relay that chevy wanted 85 bucks for. i just toggle switched it. great car.
you do have the worst combination, post 94, 1.3 and auto, i bet its a 4 door aslo. But make sure your tires are at about 40psi and drive around 55mph with slow starts. I have a 96 1.3 5 spd and i get 45-55mpg
'94 3 cyl. 1.0L 3 door geo metro xfi, 58mpg EPA, most people get in the high 60's....although there was a better car produced, the 1999-2001 honda insight, it gets 72mpg EPA and ppl easily get in the 100's with it.
D41H4T5U, to make a diesel worth the money over a geo metro it would have to get 100 MPG to break even with the fuel cost, my geo gets 50mpg ave have seen 53 so diesel being twice as much as gas you would have to get 100 mpg to save as much as the geo, then you have to take into consideration that the maintenance of a diesel is way more expensive and then if something takes a shit it cost way more to fix then a gaser, so make that 150mpg to come close to even out with a geo
Well i'm only 18 MPG away from 100 MPG in my car! As for diesel, it's very cheap here at $6 a US gallon, but petrol is only slightly cheaper. Hopefully it won't go back up to $12 a gallon like it was earlier this year (stupid recession) 60% of cars in Europe are diesel, they now offer better performance, low emissions and low noise levels now, more torque and LOW maintenance for sure. BTW VW own Lamborghini, Audi, Bentley, Skoda, seat, as well as many others so they're not that bad at all!
Im an auto mechanic and the majority of cars we see in our shop is VW and Audi, we see many Mercedes to, we see all the cars you just listed and none of them compare to anything in the US, anything German has to much stupid shit, only the truly stupid would make a car so you have to have a special scanner to reset the oil light, wheel bolts instead of lug nuts is stupid, life time never service transmission fluid is BS, they ALL leak, they require way to many special tools.
Very stupid thing to mark all German cars as piles of shit. The cars coming from Germany so far from what Ive seen wipe the floor with everything American.
It's called technical refinements, one day in about 20 years or so, America will catch up with the rest of the World and get very technical too. Have you ever wondered why there are very few American cars in Europe? Well it's because they are good for nothing, quite literally. I don't own a German car anyway, i have a FIAT, of whom own Ferrari, Lancia, Alfa Romeo as well as others. If all you can complain about is a leaky gearbox, wheel nuts and tools that you're too retarded to use then...
60 - 100 MPG and lots of them. I get 74 MPG in my Fiat Panda turbo diesel which is quite good i think. Seat Ibiza 1.4 diesel does 88 MPG, as does the new VW polo and the new mini does over 80 MPG
get a life eh? here's a new flash for you limey! WE DONT HAVE THOSE FUCKING CARS IN AMERICA!! dont you think if they were imported here we would be buying them as fast as they got off the boat? since they aren't, we are stuck with what we got! so why dont you get a life and have fuckin fun in your panda!
thank you i will! I think it's unfair America doesn't get these cars, the new ford feista does over 80 MPG but will it be sold in the US? probably not.
Ford is supposedly bringing 5 of it's "european only" models to the US in a few years.Which ones they are nobody knows.Maybe the $11B loss finally lit a fire under their ass that we would like to see more choices in economical cars that are affordable now and in the long run unlike the Prius.
Yeah but they are no where near as cheap or reliable as a 3 cyl geo metro, and anything with VW on it is like advertising you are restarted, German cars are the biggest piles of shit, they still cant figure out how to keep there cars from leaking, and who in there right mind would buy a diesel, 88 MPG ok well that is close to twice the MPG my metro gets when I beat on it and TRY to get bad MPG but diesel here is twice the $ as gas so you end up spending more money on fuel anyways.
waste of my time. 96 Geo Metro has nothing special about it, and they dont get as good gas mileage as the 89-94 version. The 95 is a good bet if you want a safe Metro that still gets the same MPG as the 89-94 models. 96-01 had OBD 2 and it hogged alot more gas than OBD 1
Better title: Buy one
