  • I know a little about modern guitar "pick" technique and the guitarist here Brent Mason absolutely surpasses the state of the art with this solo. Very few players (if any) literally in the entire world can play those sequenced arpeggios with hybrid picking like he does here.

  • AWSOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the way they keep increasing the speed! It don't get no better then this.

  • I love the way they keep increasing the speed!

  • The people sittin there had no idea how much of a once-in-a-lifetime thing they were seeing. None of the dumb-ass younger players now could ever even come close to this kind of virtuosity, and even if they did it would never be broadcast anywhere. It would be about 1000th down the list from Britney Spears/Kayne West/MTV/super retard program/eat-shit stuff.

  • No tambourine solo! :-)

    What a cracker

  • Wow! They are all amazing!

  • @doublealufwaffe You got that right.

  • Mark has been playing fiddle since childhood. Winning the Natl. Junior Fiddle championship numerous times in the 70's.. I think he became a a national flat-picking champion as well. Even played with the "Dixie Dregs" as a fiddle player in the early 80's. I had the fortune of doing sound for him in the early 80s and at the American Arts Festival in Amsterdam May of '85. I've done sound for a lot of players over the years and Mark was a true gentleman who's playing never ceases to amaze me!

  • @1957scrambler Mark won the GRAND MASTERS fiddle championship when he was 13yrs old. The NATIONAL FLATPICK GUITAR contest 1st place when he was 15yrs old in '72 or '73, and many others including mandolin. I was there to see that one in Winfield, Kan. I have the album he did as part of his prize for 1st. He played all 3 instruments on the album. I swear he is from another planet or something. Very nice man too!

  • @Tracy3006

My mistake. Mark won those Championships in 1975, not '72 or'73. I'm gettin old!! Tracy

  • Ralph Mooney? LMAO

  • no,....Paul Franklin.

  • No -- I was LMAO at the comments by "ParadoxianGiant" saying some of these guys "didn't get it" and Ralph Mooney did. Now I'm really LMAO. Ralph Mooney vs. Franklin? Totally ROFLMAO.

  • excelente video; mi pregunta es cómo se llama ese instrumento que está sobre el suelo y se toca como una guitarra. gracias

  • Pedal steel guitar

  • THIS is a prime example of why I will never have any respect for Vai or his kind... get one of those hair farmers to plug a single coil guitar straight into a Deluxe Reverb and play. None of the processors and harmonizers, just clean guitar. Vai/Satriani/Malmsteen arent worthy of suckin the sweat of Mark O'Connors hatband....

  • Ah, by the same token, get mark o conner to plug into a mesa boogie and solo unacompanied in a minor key...

  • you obviously dont know much about O'Connor.. he was a multi-time guitar champion before switching to violin. I've seen what he can do with a piece of shit Martin, one can only imagine his prowess on an electric. Trust me, he's a freak of nature...

  • Dude, just respect what other musicians are doing. For example, I hate mozart with a passion, but it doesnt mean I dont respect what he did.

  • check out Mozart's Requiem .... trust me :)

ps ........ New Nashville Cats are incredible

  • We have Mark O'Connor, Paul Franklin, Brent Mason, don't know the drummer or the bass or keyboard player. To get all of these guys on one stage is totally amazing.

  • dang, if you aren't grinning while this is going on, you had better check your pulse.

  • how can you be grinning when your mouth is wide open. lol

  • wait till you see him play harmonica

  • Is that Terry McMillan?

  • that song is full of chords!

  • this is the very first time i have ever heard of the group or even mark o'connor, this guy rocks the violin like a mad man, my brother can play pretty good but nuthin at all compares to this guy. KING.

  • Interesting, this is a great blast from the past. Brent's tele was not in mint condition by any means but it did still have a glossy fretboard and headstock at that time. No surprise he has worn the shine off everything on that guitar. And was that a tremolo...Guess he had to do what he had to in order to get the strat/les paul/tele thing in one guitar. I like the b bender better though.

  • if that devil went down to georgia,, and see the finest paul franklin..

that devil would turn tail, and fucking shit in his pants i recon...

  • i hate country music but love this its just so fun to listen too these guys get my props

  • It's so damned fast that the solos just hang out there on a limb .... where's the groove?

.. sorry Paul, but you blew the steel ride as well. Yea, I suck, but you boys get all the sessions don't you?

  • I really can't wait to click on your link and see what it is you do. OMG....If that's Paul "blowin it" then YOU MUST BE AWESOME just to notice what us guys here are blown away with! There's a reason these "boys" get all the sessions. It's because "men" like you aren't fit to dust Paul Franklins stool! In a session situation, we could punch a millisecond where we slowed down. But LIVE!! DUDE GIVE PROPS WHERE THEY'RE DESERVED. You are right about one thing. YOU SUCK.

  • Your opinion, my opinion, who really gives a damn. The internet is nothing but a big CB radio. As far as what I do, its way over your head, junior.

  • I give one. This big CB seems to be full of "wanna be" musicians who haven't a clue about a genius who's made more "blowing" than you ever will. Look, I won't blast what you do because I obviously know nothing about it. (even though I can pilot a plane) And, you keep your musical opinions to yourself. Will that work skippy?

  • My resume is on file at the Nashville office of the American Federation of Musicians. My wannabe days are long behind me. I'm sorry I got under your skin. Let's call a truce ... and how did you know my nickname?

  • wow man. learn to appreciate music and leave the non-constructive criticism to yourself. if you can't do it better shut up and stop being a dildo

  • I was waiting for the tambourine whacker to take a solo! I'll bet that guy even got scale!

  • I told you I'm slow sometimes.."your" instead of you're, damn, I do that all the time ....someday I'll be able to write sentences like "ever decreasing popularity of "Popular" music" ..and get more credibility.

I am kind of enjoying this though

  • I've read all your posts and I still don't know what your talking about(probably my fault I'm slow sometimes)But to say "It is literally painful to me to hear somebody say that a guy like Brent Mason is a great player" OK, he's not your style ..so what, but to blame the country music industries problems on a session player ..?? You angry about something "paradoaxiangiant"...Now go play your soulfull guitar and tell yourself how everybody else doesn't get it.

  • Brent Mason is a member of the Local AF of M in Nashville, TN. He gets whet the union scale allows.

Hats off to him for a wonderful career - - he and Paul Franklin Jr are gifts to the music world.

  • Anyone who could possibly belittle what Brent Mason does is'nt being honest with us or themselves. I don't care what music you listen or make (as long as it's not sampled) The guy is an amazing complete musician. There's a lot of guitarists who feel they must downplay others talents(small ___ syndrome)to make up for their talent or lack of. If you don't like the guys stuff most real musicians keep that to themselves because thay know how hard it is.

  • and FYI...brent mason would be out of a job if country music didnt sell. yet he still commands 5 grand a session...hmmm, i wonder how much do you get paid for your geetar skillz...?

  • While I agree with your comments and arguements with paradoxian (whos account is now closed. hmmmm???) (must've went into hiding. what an idiot) I must say that you are somewhat off in your quote of what it costs to get Brent to play. Or any of the rest of us for that matter. I'm not trying to argue with you my friend. I just wanted to clear up that one thing. I'm obviously not hiding behind my "screename". It's easy to find me out. LOL. Love Brent and his playing!

  • OH! The keyboard player is Matt Rollins. The bass player is Glenn Worf. The "tambourine" player is Terry McMillan who we lost last year. RIP. The greatest Harmonica player ever in the world! there will never be another! And that's one thing NO ONE could dispute! He was a great percussionist too.

  • no the bass player is Mike Rhodes

  • My apologies! You are correct! I was used to seeing Glen on those shows so much and the video is hard to tell that the toboggan on Mike's bald head wasn't Glen's black hair! ha ha! Mike's a great player and an even nicer guy!

  • yep, Mike rocks, very underrated player. Has great time, really good feel and some good chops too

  • wow lets have a pissing contest about who said what first. thats AWESOME! youre a fucking moron. country music sells a lot. im not responding to your drivel anymore. besides...having a day job and getting paid to play "real" music like a weekend warrior doesnt count as a pro.

  • besides, why should i care what YOU think is considered "real music"? and nothing about what i said is cheap or childish. thats insulting. the shit youre talking about is intangible...its opinion and preference. but to say seasoned studio players are the cause of problems with the music biz really is silly and quite retarded...

  • so what are you saying? youre a real pro because what you play ISNT in time or precise? what in the hell is wrong with becoming the best guitarist you can possibly be? or perhaps youre simply jealous that no one wants to pay you for your services as a guitarist?

  • paradoxiangiant, youre obviosly not a musician are you? music fan yes, but i doubt you understand anything about being a real pro player. brent mason gets PAID to sound like that. i also doubt youve heard brents solo work. its not "cramming" like this is. he knows how to serve the song. and to say hes the epitome of what wrong in the music biz is simply MASSIVE ignorance. i thought talentless pretty faces who couldnt sing are the problem, not the studio players who can play ANYTHING.

  • I repect your opinion but I still think there's a reason he's been on alot of album he's one of the best , not saying the others guys arn't as good as him ... check out my vids let me know what you think , search for chris belliveau .

  • Thats not true man , he has alot of soul , listen to the whole hot wired cd you'll see he has tons off feel.

  • Help me out, I've forgotten the name of the brilliant keyboard guy....What a sound these guys kick out. And believe it or not it gets even better when Jerry Douglas joins in.

  • Brent Mason is THE GUitar God !!!!!!!

  • If you're sad......take a good look on this video..

The boatvox says:....I could do that, but I just don't wanna too.......Adair Torres

  • If anyone needs any guitars or amps mine are in the dumpster now!

  • I saw this when it was broadcast and totally freaked on everyone. Mark is so completely fluid, always has been. To hear him now in his new direction is just more amazing. But Paul Franklin has taken pedal steel to another plane. The Bar is higher now...hahaha..was that a pun?

  • Uhhh...yeah. I could do that. I just don't wanna.

(Cough-cough).... Wow. Really quite amazing. How in God's name can all those guys play that fast and still hit all their respective cues?! It ain't fair, I tells ya! thanks for the post.

  • That´s just downright insane...

  • Mark O'Connor is the finest.. great posting

  • Yikes !!!! These players are among the best! I'm sure that Miles, Coltrane and Ellington would have flipped hearing these guys play

Thank you very much for posting this video

    RC

  • any more from the show ???

  • my god... unbelievable... amazing... god

  • man Im diggin how Brent just stopped to watch Paul!! Two of the greats!!
