what the Israeli poet says about the marginality of poetryi in the west is very important!! Palestine Ireland perhaps even the American South Black and White are exceptions. But unchecked "modernity" is the enemy of art--Darwish was a patriot and a poet--it would be a pity if he was read only as propaganda--he was more than that-- a great artist as well as a great Palestinian Patriot.

It is such a sad thing that he died...he was a bright star for not only the Palestinians, but for all humans to learn from...and to comprehend that injustice, struggle, and suffering is something that has to be spoken out against.
