I love Thick As A Brick, but I disagree that it's the ultimate prog-rock album. I'd go with King Crimson's Larks' Tongues In Aspic. That one's never been equaled, as far as I'm concerned.
@jannyrcobs ooh, that's a tough one! I'm a Genesis man myself, though i'll agree that King Crimson probably is the most progressive out of all the classic prog bands. So had i not been so fond of Genesis, i probably would have said something like Red or Close to the Edge. My on-the-spot pick, though, has to be Foxtrot. This will probably have changed by tomorrow, so don't judge me too hard
I dunno, King Crimson's Easy Money is pretty sexy in a "let's get it on" sort of way, and Yes had some pretty funky, butt-shaking rhythms. There's some sex in prog, you just need to dig around for it
They should never have been surprised that 95% of their audience were guys. Women, with very few exceptions, have never achieved much in music, whether classical, jazz, pop, progressive or whatever else. Same with art, playrights & musicals - all male dominated. Even comedy is male dominated. When women go to a rock concert they are more interested in the "occasion," who's there, on-stage antics, what they're wearing & the atmosphere. The music is just incidental. Sorry dears - its a mans world
Changling, you say? Thanks for the suggestion, tatithesentinel. Now I will try to check that book out. I like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Rennaisance and many more artists of that era. That was my era, but my son also loved them, especially Pink Floyd....we still do!
Tubular Bells...ahhhh...that's amazing stuff....Oldfield is a musical genius. A shame he retreated and could not handle the spotlight. I guess it just wasn't for him.
@artj22850 Now Mike copes a little bit more with success...try to read his autobiography Changeling,it's worth reading to understand his early success.
"Thick as a Brick" really is the quintessential prog rock album.

Is that Slightly All the Time at the beginning of the clip? Doesn't sound like the version on Third.
