Rather heavily distilled from the original novels... Lupin never steals, has only one henchman and does not remain in the shadows enough. And at least the novels treated Herlock Sholmes with sufficient respect.
Still, I should credit this show for getting me interested in the novels as I entered my teenage years.
To me this "Herlock" isn't ture Sherlock Holmes, because the way they portrayed him was inaccurate. They let Lupin make him look ridiculous, because he's the main hero here. But, if it was Holmes' show, then it would be probably reversed. ;)
@asmodeus585 your right..the real holmes would catch him and put him in prison in 12 hours but due to their respective relations i think holmes will let him flee..
Holmes was public domain in America back then. But in the original Arsene Lupin stories, Leblanc (the author) couldn't use the name Sherlock Holmes nor any related characters so the editors changed it to Herlock Sholmes. As a matter of fact one of Lupin's books was called Arsene Lupin contre Herlock Sholmes. So it's just sticking to the source of material.
The first story in the book (Herlock Sholmes arrive trop tard) was originally printed with the Sherlock Holmes name in its magazine appearance but they changed it after legal objections from Conan Doyle

@Darkwintre They didn't. But they mispronounced and 'Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century' repeated that.
