  • I love the Mustang with the Euro side-mirrors

  • OMG this brought back so many memories....I was 10....I remember my friend had a fringe purse and I was sooo jealous! lmao

  • Sounds like McCartney wrote and sang this...

  • @MrJohndl When I first heard this song I thought McCartney was singing in the background too!

  • I had the 45...very nice video, great editing...all these years hearing it, I never knew they were from the Netherlands....

  • Love this! So glad it was found! What a classic!

  • I loved this when I heard it as a snot-nosed 13 year old teenager in 1970. Makes me wish I had taken French!

  • i had a crush on a girl when this song came out...sigh....

  • goed dat je dit allemaal weer via youtube kunt horen en zien

  • i can't believe we used to wear those clothes. oh my but it brings back good memories

  • Mark Bellamy hated this song.

  • This rates right along with "Vehicle" by the Ides of March and "Little Bit O' Soul" by the Music Explosion. Oh, and "I'm Your Venus" by Frigid Pink (or was it Shocking Blue?). Good Stuff, two cuts above a solid garage band.

  • Man, I'm in 7th Grade again. Thanks for the post.

  • videos were called promotional films back then (fyi) :)

  • some songs are just magic.this is magic.

  • NO ME GUSTO Q ASCO

  • So wonderful that they had the vision to do music videos back then. Looks like Holland

  • No thanks,,,which "bells" bytheway?

  • This is a great memory from my childhood. Thank you very much.

  • that was just lovely.

  • this is 1 of the best songs from the 60's thanks for posting it i love real videos of old songs

  • @ponkaton1 -- "My Belle Amie" by Tee Set is actually a '70s song. It was released in January, 1970.

  • Ha! I love that Mustang's burn out!

  • i bet your drunk and pulling on some guys johnson like your a slot machine

  • Some are saying he sang this out of tune. Wow-- I remember people saying that way back when it was released too. I always thought it was just his singing style that made it seem that way to some people. His voice sounds great on this to me; vulnerable and real. That's the charm of it I think

  • These guys are white? European?? Swear I thought they were black dudes from the Caribbean or something. The husky voice and inabiltiy to pronouce the word "the" were a giveaway... or so I thought.

Heard this song in 1970... and again last week.

    That organ rocks!

  • @CincyDude5

I remember thinking this guy was a black carribean..maybe from trinidad or something-when I first heard the tune in 1969.I guess its just the Dutch accent-and the guys deep voice-that fooled us.

  • Thanks for posting x

  • I can't believe this song got released .. it's awful, the singing is crap.. so out of tune and straining for the top notes .. cringeable !!!!

  • @DancingQueen101049 - yes - it got released - and the B side's even better - so keep on dancing - you Queen

  • @DancingQueen101049 and your a idiot

  • @hookuspookus529 Everyone to their own, I obviously have a higher standard of music appreciation than you do :P

  • @DancingQueen101049 puleeez , with a name like DancingHooker are you kidding me ? i bet all you can play the skin flute !

  • @hookuspookus529 You're obviously a child by your silly responses... everyone is entitled to an opinion, and is entitled to share it on youtube...if you don't like it ...tough , just sod off :)

  • Is this song really that old?? Am I really that old??? Frig. Oh well, I loved it the first time around, and I still do. Thank you for uploading this great classic.

  • one the greatest songs of all time. near perfect

  • Sorry did I forget the rating? it was Nr. 1 . Thanks Dihl Benninck!

  • 12 years old I was and this was Nr. on US Billboard. And practically everywhere worldwide..

  • I remember this song.

I did not realize it was as old as 1969.

I kept hearing it in the '70's.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Thank you. When I was 5 or 6 my uncle used play guitar along to this song and sing it. I cannot stop my tears. He died when I was seven. Thank you for bringing back that memory. Thank you over and over. Thank God for love.

  • @MrEskimojerry

great post Jerry. Its a great tune--and when combined with those personal memories it makes it that much better.

  • Voor mij een evergreen

  • dit was nog muziek

  • I was 13 or 14 when I first heard this & then finally found it again some 30 years later. I remember wanting someone to love me the way he loved his belle amie. Such a wonderful memory!!

  • What beautiful memories. This is a one-of-a-kind song. The same can be said for the group. This is just a great pop song and wonderfully executed.

  • OMG....I've been looking for this song forever. I heard it once when I was 9 years old, the name of the group wasn't announced, never knew the name of the song, till now!!! I did remember some words which brought me here!!! YAY!!!

  • Love the song, the hair, and diggin' the jackets!!!!

  • Love that Dutch rock!

  • I remember this being played on Top 40 AM radio when I was 9 years old. I think it was a minor hit. I haven't heard it in decades.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN - What a wonderful song - lyrics and tune and execution. It is still played on AM radio 1278 in Melbourne Australia - I heard it last night on the Top 40 as I was driving. Thanks so much mabellamie for posting and giving such joy to a child of the 40's!

  • When the song started, is was 14 Jears old.

I heared it on my first selfmade radio by AFN.

I never found it on Germen radio-stations at this time.

The organ (Hammond B3 ?) is fantastic, similar played like Procol Harum...

  • She drove a Mustang

  • the canadians arrogances,l arrogance de l ouest canadiens, des tetes carrées

  • Still love this song!! Would like to know where Peter is now!

  • He died in 2002

  • I'm 52 years old and i still like it!!!

    Many memories...

  • Wow who is the babe in the Mustang??

  • Was in the Air Force in Germany when this came out. Spent most of my time in Metz and Strasbourg across the border, so the French lingo caught my fancy. Great song. I put this in the same category as "Venus" by Shocking Blue. Another great one-hit wonder tune.

  • At the beginning, Peter looks as if he's about to fall off his platform shoes, They weren't easy to walk in.

  • Wow. The Tee Set. This could be the perfect definition of a one-hit-wonder.

Regardless, I heard it on the radio some 40 years ago and I still like the song.

  • Let the bells ring ... let the birds sing. I heard this on the radio in the car last Sunday and could not get it out of my head. I am so glad I found this video!!

  • Prachtig jeugdsentiment.

Wat werd dit veel gedraaid tijdens die prachtige zomer van 1969.

Jammer dat Peter Tetteroo zo jong overleden is.

  • Ford Mustang in europe ?

  • ahhh, wonderful indeed :)

thanks so much for posting this one, t's been fourty years and i still love it :)

  • classic!

  • Me too. Heard this for the first time in 30+ years, evokes so many memories etc. long buried. Wonderful!

  • @peter12341000 ....40+yrs!!!!!!

  • luved this song when i was 11 yrs old!

  • wat is dit leuk zeg...die ouwe beelden, geweldig en alles was ook zo hoopvol...jammer dat P.T. al is overleden...

  • Jess I found it.

    How nice

  • god damned it, wat een zanger. Ik zong het in de jaren 60 van harte mee en dit Blijft Staan Als Een Huis.Ik heb nog steeds de LP ( hoes en inhoud) die ik in die tijd aanschafte.

  • ...love this tune - where was the video shot?

  • The film was made in Tee Set's hometown of Delft. the Neteherlands. Mostly at the city gate (Oostpoort) and the neighboring swing bridge. The closing shots are near the Reineveldbrug. Not sure about the opening shots. Might be Prinsenhof.

  • Thanks! - beautiful places...

  • @snelwegkat

Thanks for the info...one of my fave tunes(1st heard it at age 11-now im 52;;)-And the vid is just great--one of the best-natural not forced looking

  • I love this song but I can't stop laughing at the video. The hair, the fringe, the vests, the velveteen jackets... wow. It was cool... then. Also love the skinny steering wheel with no power steering. Oh, man.

  • This song was a big favorite of mine when I was in First Grade....1969.

  • Here's the deal: they all have "Eric Carmen" hair. What in the world did you do if you were a young man in the late 60s/ early 70s and didn't have a nice head of hair?

  • It's a nice song - I mean it flows and has meaning or a feeling to it - Thanks L,c

  • Hmm, you mean Lynn, right Charles?

  • it was a dutch band , they make nice songs

  • I was also 9 in 1970.This was the first single I ever bought, it cost me $1.00, a lot of pocket money in those days. Yes it was No.1 in australia, a gerat song.

  • This is a great number here

  • I was ten when this song hit the charts and I always thought he was singing, 'Ralph Bellamy", the actor.

I also swore Paul McCartney did the harmony on the "man after him waits here" part. Sure sounds like Paul.

  • LOL "Ralph Bellamy"!

  • It is Paul. I'd heard (speculation) that he was in the studio when this was recorded, and they asked him for some input.

and this is the end result. that's the way I understand it.

probably several sources on the 'net for the real word, though.

  • This song absulutely kicks ass!

  • What a great era....lived on a houseboat in A'dam...full of beautiful memories

  • "'Wait!' That's what I said before you went away. Wait, that's what I'm doin' until today. Wait forever I guess I will, I just wish I could have told you, 'Wait! I love you still....'"

  • MY NAME IS MABELLE :D:D

  • wow never thought I'd hear this one again. I was 7 and had a crush on a girl in my 2nd grade class. It still reminds me of her, Laura Markley.

  • I was 9-years-old, back in the spring of 1970 when this tune came out. Had a crush on Esther Arceneaux, in my third grade class. Also liked Kami Kendrick. Very awesome song and era to have grown up in.

  • I think everybody who was about 7, 8 or 9 in 1970 was heavily inspired to love by this song (Ma Belle Ami).

  • I was nine and had crushes on girls, named Kami Kendrick and Esther Arceneaux.

  • the man after him waits here, is that paul mccartney doin the harmony

  • I heard this song on Sirius/XM tonight. I hadn't heard this song in more than 30 years, had forgotten it, but it immediately took me back to my Marine Corps days in Viet Nam. It was a weird feeling.. I knew I had heard it last somewhere in the Da Nang area, circa 1970, and a lot of that atmosphere flowed over me in a way it hadn't in years.

  • Great comment. Thanks for sharing. (and serving)

  • Yes - Thank You!

  • I vaguely remember seeing this B/W clip on T.V.What a great time to be around long hair, skivies, flares, boots, vests, suede & blonde hair girls with fair skin driving cars with carburettors!

  • i would hate that guy in the backgrounds job...twisting that handle all day.

  • This is a great song and it brings back very good memories of my senior year in high school.

  • I really appreciated this and "Lady Marmalade" by LaBelle after taking French in high school.

This song, MA BELLE AMIE is basically saying: " My nice friend, After all fine weather I say, thank you, thank you."

The TEE SET were a Dutch Quintet. I don't know how much this song sold, but it was a big hit in 1969.

  • The lyrics (Apres tous les beaux jours

Je te dis merci merci) translate to

    "After all the beautiful days

I tell you thank you thank you" the song is about him being dumped while still in love as she moves on , I loved it in 1969 & still love it in 2009

  • Beautiful lyrics. Sometimes I wish that I had paid more attention in french class. This is truly beautiful.

  • there is a verse that runs a couple of times through the song

You were the answer to all my questions before were through.

I want to tell ya, that I adore ya and always do.

That you amaze me by leaving me now to start a new.

My belle amie, I'm in love

    with you.

& for some reason (maybe it's just me) , I always thought when they hit that last line,

My belle amie, I'm in love

    with you.

it sounded very much like the Beatles

  • one the greatest pop songs ever written.... for 39 years i didnt know the line" lets all give my substitute a cheer"....this song makes me very happy and sad at the same time.

  • thanks

  • What a great great song - many memories.

  • This song will always remind me of my life in South Africa. Good life it was too. Thanks for this posting.

  • it does bring back great memories of life in SA

  • this song is awesome

  • It's so cool to find out that other people know and love this song. I have spoken to many people my age over the years and none of them remember it. So sad to hear Peter died.

    Let the bells ring!

  • The lead singer is my father's cousin

  • awesome

  • My friend Pete and I made up a dance to this in middle school. I taught the dance to my freinds Tom and Suzanne as an adult and showed to to Pete 30 years later.........we all howled!!

  • first heard this song on the radio when i was nine,(am now 48), most unusual thing about this song is i used to hear it on the radio once a year around christmas time. wonder if there is any significance.

  • Peter Tetteroo died about 5 years ago, he's got alot of memorial sites.

  • @Jendromeda,

Peter Tetteroo died in 2002, RIP.

  • You are my MOST beautiful friend, Babe. X

  • Just found the 45 in a box in my closet. I loved this song. Had to go to YouTube praying it was here, thanks for posting it. I just downloaded it from iTunes!

  • I love that song I can't stop playing it. Now that was the music.

  • Well, at least it means "my dear girlfriend"...that's better than if it were about a woman named "Amie". That would be audio assault, considering what most women named Amy are. It's like singing a tribute to Hitler, everytime the Prairie League song gets played. I'm sure that all stupid women (named Amy) think that this song is about a woman, who has their name! LOL!

  • ma belle amie means either

    my beautiful friend

    or

    my beautiful girlfriend

    friend seems more likely

  • It means 'My beautiful girlfriend', period.

  • Absolutely marvelous.

  • what does ma belle amie mean

  • Means,my dear girl-friend

  • No, it means "My beautiful Friend"

  • Well, that's interesting. I didn't know.

  • And of course he liked men.

  • Sorry, you´re wrong

in french, "friend" can be masculine "ami" or feminine "amie". The "e" at the end does not leave room for doubts, it´s a "she". It is a beautiful song anyway and there´s no need to complain for the lyrics or to assume personal revelations from them.

  • couldn't find it go to limewire and download it

  • *sigh* Back in the day! Love this song.

  • i still have the 45!!!(not the gun..the little thing that goes round and round!!)

  • Unfortunately, I never got the 45, but I just bought it off i-tunes. For years, I thought he was saying, "for the man up the hill waits here."

  • I have loved this song since I was a kid and have never been able to find it. Thanks!

  • where are these days

  • A work of Art from the golden age of pop music when it was ok to wear velvet bell bottom trousers

  • nice!!!

  • Hello, Dihl!

    Whose Mustang?

    Skol!

  • From Hans van Eijck, the composer.regards Dihl

  • I've been listening to oldies forever, but I didn't hear this song until last week. Really good song, even though it has the shitty French language in it.

  • "..shitty French language"? From your profile "patriot, warrior" I assume you hate the french because they didn't support your lying president's blood-for-oil fiasco. And you feel inferior because you can't speak French.

Bordel a queue de pompe a merde.

  • The shitty french language as you say it iswhat makes this song special,if you can't speak french my friend i'm afraid you're the one in deep shit!!

  • First heard this song when I was 9 as well. I thought these guys were the coolest guys on the palnet when i saw this video clip. Still love this song so much. I suppose it brings back very fond childhood memories when I was a child of the sun!

  • Same for me!!

  • simplemente..... hermosa.

  • ha,ha

  • Always reminds me of MY FRIEND Willie. RIP.........

  • ONE OF MY FAV 45'S!!!

  • if you want to know more about tee set go to myspace.dihl bennink

  • ma belle amie--thanks so much,

  • Dutch rock. very underrated. damn good song.

  • this song has been floating in my head for 20 years - just heard it on sirus 7 the other day and so many memories came back --

  • classic

  • Peter Tetteroo RIP a great singer !

  • Een uniek document voor Delft. De oude handbediende draaibrug. Hoe vaak heb ik daar niet voor gewacht

  • By the way,that is a 65 mustang,in europe i assume

  • I darn well wish i was back in those days too,so i could buy a car like that for 22 hundred bucks lol

  • Cool

  • Thanks a shit load for this one!!! I just found the 45rpm I bought when I was 6....Hell I thought they were black until now

  • LOL I can't stop laughing,

  • allen bedankt voor deze heerlijke muziek

  • Awesome, thanks so much for this song, it's a classic.

  • goud van oud!!ik zie nog Franklin voor me op de schommel bij Claude van Heye de popfotograaf van toen!!thanx

  • a bloody great song up there with the beatles

  • I love this song...Thank you for posting this one..

  • Awesome! Wish I were back in those days...

  • As much as like this music, I don't think I'd necessarily want to be back there. Only because of the Vietnam War, and then President Nixon. Not that these days are any better, but wishing for a time like this isn't necessarily something I wish for either.

  • those days were amazing for me...life had an innocence and magic that it lacks now for my children...Again I say, I wish i were back in those days!

  • I could not agree with you more, 184green. Those were magical days!
