  • Man your confidence painting the leaves over the barn is amazing!

  • Is that dog a White Lab?

  • Love your paintings. I am having some difficulty with foilage and I am amazed at how easily you paint it. Is there a technique?

  • Thanks for the information about the brush !!!

Do you use synthetic, sable or bristle? I've been trying them all and find that different kinds work for different techniques.

Yesterday, I watched the entire October Lane series, printed out a photo and am going to make an attempt....

Thanks again for taking the time to do these !!! They are VERY helful !!!

  • I use the cheapest synthetic brushes i can find as I'll only get 1 painting out of a (small )brush anyway.

    Good luck with Oct Lane!!

  • He is not an annoyin dog...hes a good dog. There's nothing better than relaxin and paintin with your retriever...mind you - he should be drinkin liquor too! good work.

  • plus one!

  • Love your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do these. And... I love your dog !!! I used to have a Black Lab.... wonderful dogs.

What brush did you use to do the foliage? It looks like a small round or a liner brush but it's hard to tell on the sped up tape.

    Thanks again

  • Its about a #1 or 2 flat

  • that dog is annoying LOL

  • Brilliant James! I learned so much just watching this take shape. and the Dobro picking was class music. |well done pal!

  • brilliant!!!

  • Fantastic work.

  • This is a great video. I love how the tree came out so photo-realistic. Thank you for sharing this!

  • Shame that it's sped up like that...such gorgeous work would be more appreciated when at the natural rate/speed of your ability...

  • wow...incredible painting artist,you have so much talent it's real art!!!!unbelivable!

    cute dog by the way!!!:)

  • Maybe it's not talent -- maybe it's hard earned skill

  • omg very amazing man i like how the windows edges are amazingly straight u must be very good at painting thin lines without shaking your hand because when i try i cant keep my hand steady sometimes

  • Dang!!!! Fasinating. Such talent. Love the music, the pooch and watching you paint so beautifully. The shadow work....superb! Thank you Sir :D

  • wow it's amazing how much the littlest shadows and highlights make the bigest diference.GRAT WORK !

  • question, i uaslly do watercolors but i started on trying out oil paints, its very think paint does it have to be that way or is there a way to thin it out a bit and if so what should i use to thin it out with

  • try using mineral spirits, i'd recomend getting one of the oderless types

  • k ty ^^

  • Amazing!!5*

  • Too fast too little expanation, too distant/fast to know what is being done

  • lolll

  • Amazing! I've learned more here than any book has taught me! The sad part is... I thought I was an artist!!!! BTW, "lordytoo", you should get yourself a Doberman and satisfy your chihuahua instead of trying to be a comic here.

  • lol the dog is giving him a blowjob..but great work

  • I bet you liked that.

  • Hee masterpainter James ......my compliments

  • I like your painting ,wonderful work. Thanks alot for show your video.

  • I must say your work is top notch! I enjoy watching you Jim. Keep up the great painting and video's!

    Rick Packer

  • Another unbelievable painting James, superb! Master Plumbers around here charge an avg of $50-$75/hr and thats self-employed, otherwise its be $14-$20/hr avg. I'd say you're doin pretty darn good if you can manage to produce work begetting $4-$5K in whats nearly a typical work week for most, given it takes most folks 2+ months to gross that much cash .. Frankly, I'd say your work is worth more! I know mine sure is for 40 hrs of my life a week, :S

  • LOL 40 hours a week thats nuthing im just over 80 lol moneys good in alberta

  • Jimmy, what is the song playing in the video?

  • Big Bug Shuffle by Russ Barenberg from the album Skip Hop and Wobble with Edgar Meyers on bass annd Jerry Douglass on steel.....

  • how much would you sell a painting like this?

and do you make money off being an artist? I'm a student of fine art, and i wonder if i need to work as a teacher in the end to make a living.

  • this piece will net me 4-5K although to do that it must retail at nearly double that. I have maybe 50 hrs in it, so figure 80-90/hr.... thats about what your plumber makes.

i would say that if you have a.- talent, b.- the dicipline to maintain a steady output of work and c.- self marketing skills, you can make a living as well as anyone else

  • thank you for replying, you are so good at what you do.

  • Wonderful Work Jimmy - Thank you for sharing. It's always wonderful to see artists at work! I like your clean and realistic style. ;)

    Lori

  • hi jimmy - here's a fan from Sydney australia - i am a novice artist and u just give me more reasons to continue - ta

  • Wow Gorgious Jimmy! That happens to me too.

  • Dear Jimmy,

I am amazed at your work. I want to do Plein Air style, but it all just comes out blobby. I realized that the Impressionists were all trained classically first. Likewise, maybe the reason I can't paint an impressionistic tree, is becuase I can't paint a real one yet. Maybe I need to slow down and do it more like you. Thank you for that life lesson and your inspiration.

    Sincerely,

    Carolyn

  • nice job, but, I'm not fooled.

    The dog helps.

  • I am so jealous of your talent. All my life I've wanted to be able to paint and I've tried everything but I'm just rubbish. I guess it's like being able to sing well, you either can or you can't.

    Your painting is beautiful!

  • Fantastic work. I'll have to go and view your other movies now!

  • I love it and i hope there's more

  • I love your works your problally one of the best! Keep it up im subscribing!

  • This was really cool to watch and I hope there's more to come.

  • Beatiful work. I just wish it moved a little slower so I can see the techniques. Please post more. Thanks for sharing.

  • thanks for commenting Snowcat...this is the kind of feedback i need..first off, im very new to this video thing and am learning as i go....im trying to compress several hours worth of painting into 5-10 min of video. this particular video i speeded up more than twice the last one so i'll try slowing down the next one....i really appreciate your interest....jimmy

  • Here's my feedback: you know how Bob ross makes painting easy. You should make more involved painting understandable. Heres what I mean. I learned to paint through the bob ross method. But it's oversimplified and kinda "cookie cutter". Were I to do this same painting in the bob ross style. it could never look as real as yours.

  • .... so, keep doing your videos the way you do, but slow it down to show the technique of important things/tricks/techniques..

  • thanks Matt for your input... im taking your advice and in the next series Im going to take a piece all the way thru from conception to completion, adding in a pallette cam and filming in HD (the HD versions will be on my website) and finally slowing down the speed but only filming selected sections.

  • Very nice, thanks for sharing your talent
