good question, i would say that the rig i use depends on the fish and the conditions. in this video, mike was using a 10wt, he also caught his first permit that day. i used a 10 wt because i expected bigger bones and permit. in the bahamas, i would'nt have a second thought about using a 7wt. in the keys, i like to use a heavier rod. -mt
Thats not the fishes name... I went on holiday and went to see this sea creature thing and bone fish used its bone as plate and 5x the size of that fish the mans probs a tiny bit bigger then the giant plated bone fish!
mike told me after he landed it, that this was his largest bonefish ever. it fought well with at least a 150yd run. fight lasted a bit over ten minutes. he ate a crab fly. tight lines!
thats a tiny bone fish i caught one twice as big with light line but im poor so i no can afford video camreas.

Thank you..,would you ever use a 7 wt because I own a 9 and many people suggest a 7 for very shallow water thanks.

Hello rclark, i like to use 8 wt - 10 wt, 9ft. rigs and i also like to use floating line with no less than 12lb test to the fly... good luck! -mt
