Hahaha, High Falls is a very special place for me. Two years ago on my first backpacking trip, i got giardia due to some expired iodine tablets. After vomiting on the 10s for a day, I managed the hike out. It was only afterword that I realized I still loved the trip and wanted to continue backpacking in the ADKs. So glad I kept at it, it has bcome a truly pivotal part of my life. Awesome video by the way.
@BigFootOutdoors: What a great story! It's always neat to see and hear about people who have times that wouldn't be considered great, but look back with fond memories in the end!!
made a 1 day paddle trip up the oswegatchi november to the high falls on a hunting trip the falls is very beautiful and that area is amazing when it snows
But I have got to get to Wolf Pond and Cage Lake - probably saving those for one of our 5 to 7 day trips in the fall. Maybe do night 1 at High Rock, night 2 at Big Shallow, night 3 at Sand Lake, night 4 at Wolf Pond, night 5 at High Falls...or something like that!
Or we may just do a loop around the Cold River - go down the Northville Placid Trail - then go up the horse trail on the other side - would be like 3 miles!
Yes and no. I've hiked around the Seward Range and Santanoni Range, done a little bushwhacks, but I don't think I've ever actually been to the Cold River itself. It's on my to-do list, though. Along with about a million other things ;)
Well the Adirondacks are my NUMBER ONE hobby - I hike, camp, backpack and snowshoe in them (I even camp out in winter!) and I want to canoe, kayak (flat and whitewater) and cross country ski someday - I love nothing more than being in the Adirondacks - I'm so happy when I am in the wilderness.
Excellent, sounds great. A friend of mine has bushwhacked all though out there, and has great stories. Bushwhack camping is great, I've done it many times!!
Yeah, I have MANY ideas for remote off-trail bushwhack backpacking and camping - but I need to invest in a GPS. I don't want to do anything to crazy - just get off the trail a little to places people probably don't go and find nice spots to chill and camp.
My friend and I found a pond on a map in the Siamese Wilderness and expected to go there and find virgin forest and it was the DIRTIEST campsite we ever found!
And, I'm sorry to say, I suspect hunters - I just think backpackers and hikers respect the land and the forest more than people whose primary motive is to hunt and shoot animals. But that is NOT to say that ALL hunters are like that.

That's really neat! I've never seen it with snow, but I can imagine it was beautiful. Glad you were able to get up there this fall!

Sounds like it would be a great trip!! Have fun.
Sand Lake is excellent I hear. I've only seen videos from friends, but I know it's lovely and remote!

Ever been to the Cold River in the western High Peak Wilderness?

The Cold River is VERY beautiful and it has a VERY remote feeling about it.
PS - i even want to bushwhack camp - take a sharp turn off a trail to camp alongside seldomly visited streams and ponds etc.

Sounds like a good plan. You certainly have plenty of options!

Yeah, it seems especially so in the Silver Lake Wilderness; there seem to be many ponds and streams off the beaten path.
But I probably wouldn't be the first to explore those areas.
