I don't know if anyone has said this or if I am trolling or anything, but, I think the best way to detonate the gas vents is to use C4. That way you can set up the charge at the vents and hide somewhere safe to remotely detonate the charge.

If you access the terminal that ghoul sits on the second level of the vault ( oxygen recycling) there is a option to open the entrance door so you can leave it you absolutely have to.
