And, the fact of the matter is, while the battlefield conversion may not be an entirely ubiquitous phenomena, it is a fairly common one. And, the conversion almost always tends to flow one way - from right to left - and almost never in reverse. People with pro-war ideologies frequently come back from war holding anti-war ideologies. Seldom does it happen the other way around.

That's not a phenomena that is exclusive to any war - it has been happening since humans have been fighting wars. In Vietnam, many "gung-ho, kill-the-commie-gook-bastards" draftees came back and joined the "hippie-tree-hugging-peacnik" protesters in calling for an end to the war. Very seldom, if ever, did it happen the other way around.

Well, let's not act as if though democrats have not voted for any wars. Also, we must take into consideration the fact that nobody is forcing people to go out and fight. People join the military and become soldiers of their own choice, fully aware of the risks. I would argue that we aren't manufacturing like we use to because of the resrictions from the U.S. government based on things like the minimum wage and various other restrictions that are enforced by govt, restricting businesses to earn profits. Everyone collecting unemployment and welfare should be put into a manufactoring job if they want their pay. Even though we are still #1 in manufactoring,China will soon catch up and surpass us.

And, the fact of the matter is, while the battlefield conversion may not be an entirely ubiquitous phenomena, it is a fairly common one. And, the conversion almost always tends to flow one way - from right to left - and almost never in reverse. People with pro-war ideologies frequently come back from war holding anti-war ideologies. Seldom does it happen the other way around.

That's not a phenomena that is exclusive to any war - it has been happening since humans have been fighting wars. In Vietnam, many "gung-ho, kill-the-commie-gook-bastards" draftees came back and joined the "hippie-tree-hugging-peacnik" protesters in calling for an end to the war. Very seldom, if ever, did it happen the other way around.

I don't have a problem with corporations, I buy stuff from them all the time! I just don't trust them! Most are not above using unethical practices to attain a profit! It's built into the system! To justify the outrageous salaries paid to the board members and keep the stock high, they (quite often) do sleazy and fraudulant actsl I just want a system of checks and balances to keep them honest and make them pay when they aren't! @LVplayer56 as a libertarian myself, Bush was no conservative. He blew up the size of government w/ out of control spending...in an over regulated economy where the size and power of government got too big. The capitalist free-market system didn't exist under Bush. Obama is continuing the same path as Bush only to a higher degree. Look at the deficits, bailouts, wars. Look at our federal reserve! Trickle up economics is what we've gotten all along. Kaynesian economics=failure. Economics 101

@tonyg0123 Let's be honest here, the huge rise of the deficit is rooted in the astronomical cost of keeping the wars going! Clinton had the budget under control. Bush and his conservative cronies put us into these wars to keep the govt too broke to fund domestic programs and enforce the laws that keep us safe! A weakened govt will give corporations access to pollute our air and water, promote sweat shops and numerous other labor laws! When greed is the primary motivation, ethics are irrelevant!

@LVplayer56 There was an entire stock market bubble basd on artifically low interest rates, which led to malinvestments, under Clinton. It wasn't utill 2002, under Bush, that it burst. Clinton's surplus was a complete deception because many factors weren't taken into account. And what abut Clinton's dismanteling of the military that Bush had to spend billions on to recover? @tonyg0123 Nope! That stock market bubble started under Reagonomics and nope again on Clintons dismanteling the military. He cut waste from an allready overbloated (to this day) military budget! You rightwingewrs want to cut every govt agency but the military. You want to cut appropriations for the soldier trying to do his job, but keep filling the coffers of the military industrial complex! Eisenhower warned us about you guys! Even the generals tell congress we don't need all this pork!

Oh, believe me, i want to cut the military as well (and I was a Marine). We should start by cutting the majority of bureaucracies in half. As for the military industrial complex, who has funded it? I believe (Blackwater, Eric Prince) started under Clinton, existed under Bush and now Obama. All of whom have funded it...yes, even those innocent dems

What about Woodrow Wilson (democrat) and how, under his presidency established a federal reserve system and income tax (1913)? A federal reserve system that creates federal reserve notes (out of thin air) no longer backed by gold..let's talk about how our recent presidents support printing and spending this country into the ground

Here is the real problem (not some left wing B.S. you would hear on MSNBC)...we are no longer manufactoring like we use to (all service sector jobs/automation). The fed is and has been artifically lowering interest rates crating a misguided false market system. We are bailing companies out that should fail under true free market forces....

@LVplayer56 very well, maybe we can continue another day. I would argue that we aren't manufacturing like we use to because of the resrictions from the U.S. government based on things like the minimum wage and various other restrictions that are enforced by govt, restricting businesses to earn profits. Everyone collecting unemployment and welfare should be put into a manufactoring job if they want their pay. Even though we are still #1 in manufactoring,China will soon catch up and surpass us.

There are a lot of slackers that would be getting food stamps if it weren't for daddies money! If you indeed work your ass off and are successful, good for you, but to be honest , you were given a public education. Where do you think that money came from? Yup, taxes! No matter how successful a person is, they didn't get there by themselves! Everyone needs help at some point!

And, a rich person usually doesn't sed their kids to public schools. I know I sure wouldn't if I had the money. Sure, money that goes into public schooling came from taxes...in other words, peope are given chances to succeed in life, some take advantage of it by studying and some don't. @tonyg0123 By your own admission, you feel private schools are superior to public ones. If this is true, how can you still say there is "Equal Opportunity"? Wouldn't those getting a "superior" education still havea better opportunity than those with a supposedly lesser one? Which person is going to have a better chance at a good job? The slacker rich kid whose daddy sent him to Yale or the middle class kid who tried hard to get good grades and is working his way through community college?

@LVplayer56 I would send my kids to a private school. I wouldn't want their heads filled with left wing ideology (in public schools), where they spend more time teaching 5th graders how to put a condom on than how to solve math problems...However, you can def. succeed at a public school as compared to a private one once you surpass all the B.S. and are able to focus on a major...so, you may have to work harder to achieve success than others, but guess what, that's life.

@LVplayer56 look at our colleges. Kids are graduating these days with being 100k in debt!!! How did this come about? Government! When government started issuing all these grants and loans it turned into a disaster. Another example of how intentions of government end up backfiring on the same people they "intended" to help. The colleges jack up their tuition each year, while the government steps in and provides the "affordability" with these loans. You want to lower tuition? Get govenment out

@yoda002 also wanted to mention "FDR had four sons fighting in WW2"...true, but they all survived. More power to them. So, I would ask, what were their jobs in WW2? Being the president's sons, I would imagine they most likely gotten royal treatment in the service as compared to an average joe shmuck. I have a good feeling that FDR made sure his sons weren't storming the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944...but I could be wrong.
