Indeed this is a great version! I'm most familiar with Patti Page's version but this one is quite actually better in my opinion. Thanks for sharing :)
@RCALennon I agree without doubt this is the best version. Actually there were 4 versions released in 1954. Patti Page, Kay Starr, Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore. This version twangs my heart strings and almost makes me bawl out loud.
hmm,all this controversy-my cousins had a record player with a heavy blue tonearm-used the spike-just a little horn on the end of the tone arm-"not acceptable"by consumer reports magazine-you could remove the arm and have a heavy piece of plastic with a needle on the end--that aside, does anyone else note that this song is tennesee waltz backwards??
Lesson one: you cannot play those records on an acoustic machine. These are electrically recorded discs. Acoustic machines will kill them as they have small groves made for diamond styluses (styli?) NOT steel spikes. Best leave the acoustic machines for records made BEFORE 1924.
I was refering to the original poster who suggested an acoustic machine. Playing this record on such equipment IS a big deal. The small groves of this electric record will be destroyed by an acoustic's spike. D'uh!
bad sound qualiity but my grandad loved it.

Love Kay Starr.....But this was not the popular version that hit the Top 10,,,
Anyone have the French song she recorded in 1953 Allez-vous. I would love to hear that again

If you love Kay Starr (and I do), you will love this too.

Nationally, Patti Page had the biggest seller. But Kay Starr's was the preferred version in some markets of the USA.

This is the European release {through English Decca} of the original American Capitol recording...

Well, I've decided this is my favourite of all four versions which came out in 1953.

This was released in 1953, same year as Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore and the best known Patti Page version. I'm impressed with the Kay Starr version.

Cool down. 78's spherical stylus is wide. 33 rpm is small & narrow by comparison. Not a bid deal.
No worries.
