  • your pottery is fantastic and you make the best videos

  • What kind of clay do you use?

  • I like your pot you made! From Joel (age 6)

  • WOW!! You are an inspiration! How long did it take you to be able to create a pot in 2 or 3 pulls? it seems to take me hundreds!! Lastly, What kind of clay are you using?

  • Dan, Do you fire your pieces twice or just once?

My teachers advises us to fire our work once to make the piece seem glass like then the second for glazes.

  • What is the sponge for?

  • Do you have a studio, or is that your workplace in your house, because im just amazed at how cool this is, and how relaxing it must be.

and by the way how did it take for you to master such art?

  • how wet of a clay body do you use? i noticed that you centered very easily. and secondly, when there is a time lapse, is that a period used for drying? if so, how dry do you allow the piece to become?

  • your throwing a little wet... if you throw dryer you can throw longer on the same piece

  • aaaawwww...... look at the little dog in the background, he seems so curious as to what's going on

  • can't help but awww at your little dog friend, so cute, and you are so amazing at what you do!!

  • that is sssoooooo cool!!! I am the top student in my pottery class but i an no whre near as good as you!! what is the stuff that you paint on the jar at 6:00?

  • sir let me start off by saying... you fucking rock!! second, what sort of classes or courses do i need to take to pursue a career like this?

and not to get to personal but what does the income range around?

any feed back would be greatly appreciated

  • Dan is the cleanest potter I have ever seen!!!!

  • Totally masterful.

  • skill!

  • Really inspiring watching you work, keep it up!

  • you work so clean! totally mesmerising to watch your fingers im learning loads

  • I love you videos you do exceptional work...and your dog is so cute lol :D

  • Dan

great video. Where did you get the trimming tool you used to cut the foot and trim the sides with? it is the 90 deg tool with the sharp point

  • its beautiful how did u make different colors though?

  • he used a dark colored slip. Slip is basically watered down clay.

  • you have awsome techniqe, i can learn so much from your vids, thanks for sharing them.

  • I enjoyed watching you create something nice from nothing at all! Nice work.

  • the plate thing is called a bat and yes it should fit tight. you can evenly distribute clay under the bat or press some firm clay in the holes the bat pins go in as a temporary fix. throwing a ring of clay is how some potters attach there bats to the wheel head every time. i personally don't use a bat because it is a extra step that makes things take longer and sometime win I'm trying to pull up a large cylinder i pull the bat right off ruining the whole thing. Im going to do a set of demos soon

  • awesome awesome awesome

  • The clicking noise is the plate thingy on the weel moving back and forth, right? how does that not affect the piece? when my plate thingy would do that, my piece would become uneven and icouldnt use it....

  • The clicking noise is just the wheel motor straining when I apply pressure.

If your bat is too loose then you'll need to drill some new smaller holes in it so that it doesn't slide about.

That should fix it for you.

    Dan

  • that is amazing. now just hope that it still fits like that at the end of the glazing process

  • that first pull is nuts. i have seen it done. i have been wanting to work on it and see what advantage it has

  • Beautiful form, a very cool pot.

  • wow.....gorgeous...i'll have to try this soon..

  • Vwey Nice! I enjoy adding the cobalt myself, adds a nice touch to any piece really.

  • Interesting pot shape and cute little dog!

  • Great video!!

  • I admire the economy of technique...not much water, assured movements, clarity of form.

  • NICE!!!

  • IThat's a very nice piece. Is that a stain that is being applied at the end?

I have been working to get more height in my cylinders but I'm finding that I' keep getting a "bad" wobble at the top. I must be doing something wrong, but I just can't figure it out.

  • The stuff being applied at the end is a Cobalt Slip which will come out a blue colour once it's glazed.

If you get a wobble at the top just cut the wobbly bit off with a needle and keep going.
