  • Dave does not look 42 in my opinion, he looks younger. Regardless he is an awesome drummer

  • Jack Owens little brother?!

  • he's fuckin awesome...his name reminds me of DIE HARD every time I hear it haha!!

  • Of course he's the greatest! He is THE god!

  • your the greatest, thankyou

  • i saw him during the tour. he should have been co-headlining instead of fucking dragonfarce

  • meet him and talked drums with him awsome

  • does anybody know the name of the ride cymbal he uses? it really sounds awsome!

  • @bloodredskies95 Its called Zildjian Z3 Megabell ride. THE BELL IS HUGE! Expensive, but well worth the money. You cannot break that thing

  • @bloodredskies95 He uses the zildjian Z Custom mega bell ride. This cymbal is awesome, but unfortunately, they discontinued the whole line of Z customs, and its very hard to find the cymbal. If you wanna see his whole settup heres a link to his kit.

  • Dave McClain is the best drummer in the world! Hes Fast and he makes hard things look easy to play. And ofcourse Machine Head is the best band in the world! I saw them together with Slipknot and Cob in Stockholm, November the 12th 08. I went there to see Slipknot i had never heard Machine Head before that, but now i listen to them all the time! They where/is SO much better than slipknot.

  • @FanRobin your right i was a huge slipknot fan until i heard MH and now there just the best for me slipknot is boring

  • @FanRobin same here

went to see slipknot, came out a machine head fan

  • hes my favorite drummer

  • He's 42? WTF lol

  • is that phil's guitar behind dave? :-)

  • Yup I agree that maths is often right, but I didn't comment on this video in 2008, when it was added...

  • hes the obsever

  • It's kind of disappointing to work your way back through their catalogue from The Blackening.

None of their work is quite as good apart from most of Burn My Eyes, and they had an incredibly shitty Nu-metal phase.

Here's to a new path to be followed from this album on.

  • I'm a huge mh fan probably my fav band, and I even like their nu-metal stuff, not the way they dressed, and the whole image they gave themselves (Bar Adam), but yeah I think they're some brutal albums and possibly the most emotional stuff flynn's ever done?

  • damn hes 44? definitly doesnt look like it

  • Actually 43

  • I'm suprised he's even 43 haha!!!

  • 31 + 11 = 42 ! -.-

  • just to make it better he's in the best band on earth MACHINE FUCKING HEAD

  • my 13 year old son was playing a drum solo in there video

  • Such an underrated drummer.

  • @MachineHeadohYeah

    Have you ever played live?

Adrenaline rushes speed you up, and hell, if you're a true musician at that, you get caught up in the song.

I'm not making excuses or anything, but Dave McClain is one of the best in this day in age.

You can honestly say he's unique considering all drummers these days are worried about hitting 320 beats per minute and blasting.

At least accredit him for not being cliche.

Dave McClain, sir, you are God.

    MACHINE FUCKIN HEAD

  • I've always believed that as drummers across the metal genre keep getting faster and faster Dave will keep getting slower and slower, and he will always be better at every step. Sure he uses some typical "fast" patterns now and then, but honestly to say that's all he does means you've probably only listened to Aesthetics and made that entire judgment.

  • LOL I'm not one of these people who starting listening to Machine Head because of the masterpiece that is The Blackening.

I've been listening to Machine Head and their tunes for a handful of years now. I've heard waaaaayyy more than Aesthetics of Hate.

..and in my statement I was pretty much agreeing with you.

Dave does the opposite of the standard.

It's like the simplicity in understanding is shriveling.

  • In my opinion, Machine Head are in general a masterpiece but i do not listen them because the Blackening album, i listen to them because the 1st time i listen to Machine Head was a live concert, and o need to know that was the best concert ive ever seen in my life :O

    PS Im portuguese BTW

Peace, and Rock on from Portugal \m/

  • After anticipating it for a very long time, I finally got to see them back in November.

They took the show from Megadeth, imo.

  • Oh I know, same here, big fan since Through the Ashes and I love the entire discography, in all it's diversity. I was moreso expanding on what you said rather than calling you out :D

  • yup through the ashes is their best in my view, and the reason I got into em, and I don't believe a bad album has come from them?!

  • so you havent heard supercharger?

  • Yep I think it's a sick album so it's not quite burn my eyes, or the more things change, but listen to Deafening Silence and try not to feel all of Robb's anger and frustration hit come out and hit you as the track progresses! Bulldozer is like any other old school MH tune and Trephination is a fucking heavy, monster of groove that can't be fucked with! Give it another listen without a byast view already and I reckon you may think otherwise!!!

  • There's even a Machine Head on the background =D

  • What a legend!

  • We went to dinner with Dave and some band mates before a show in Milwaukee at the Rave. Extremely nice guys and they rock!

  • this guy is the reason i play drums. the fact that hes 42 years old just makes him that much more hardcore.

  • he's 42??? legend

  • Dave McClain is very underated, i think he should be more appreciated, coz' he is an awesome drummer, one of my idols infact.

  • i'm not even a drummer,i'm a guitarist and yet he's still one of my sucking idols :P

  • no hes alive

  • Thank goodness

    Did his hair die?

  • Dave McCain and Dave Lombardo owns

  • dave mcclain owns!

  • He reminds me of Jigsaw

  • haha! Yeah when he's older that gonna be spot on!!!

  • thats what my bands called lol

  • And i am a Big Fan of tyrant :)

You Do a Good Job :)

  • LOL!!!

im the drummer in a band called tyrant!

  • mcclain is definatly one of the greatest drummers on earth!!in fact, when asked on the video what drummers have affected him, Neil Peart and Peter Chris were some of them...being honest that he respects the greatest, the classic ones, makes him a top drummer!!!but, he really shows his drumming skills on MachineHead albums (and lives!!) anyway!!there's no way to judge negativly thay guy, because he doesn't consider himself great, yet he is, for me and for many others (i guess)

  • My favorite drummers (In no particular order):

    Dave McClain (Machine Head, duh)

    Matt McDonough (Mudvayne)

    Chris Adler (Lamb of God)

    Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)

Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel, Damageplan, HELLYEAH)

    Daney Carey (TOOL)

  • agreed 100% on all...

  • lars used to be good in the 90s if you listen to live shit binge he sounds really good but i think since he had the ahead sticks he got shit my opiniion mike portnoy is wicked

  • actually many people think he's an underrated drummer. he uses a totally different style than most other metal drummers, so in that way he's one of the best in my opinion, because he's really skilled and creates new grooves which many other drummers never dreamed of

  • Look i love dave mcclain but his beats and grooves are really not that complicated, he doesnt use ghost notes, large use of dynamics, expressive techniques, the hardest and most creative thing i can think of is imperium, but really his beats are all quite simple 2 4 stuff, i still find him amazing, he IS creative compared to bands these days who just do double pedal and semiquavers but compared with bands like tool, pantera, deftones, Fear Factory he isnt that creative.

  • he uses ghost notes in some songs like 'the blood, sweat, tears'. i think he is creative because he uses totally different sticking techniques to other metal drummers, especially ride cymbal work, but thats just my opinion. it says on wiki that he's regarded as an underrated drummer as well

  • What other sticking does he use u mean semi quavers on songs like beautiful mourning? he really isnt that good listen to imperium when the snare drum comes in at the start he speeds up, at live shows he speeds up davidian and every other song, and changes tempos all over the place, he isnt that good, you shouldent consider him the best their are much better drumsers out there for creativity.

  • listen to aesthetics of hate and u should know what i mean

  • I have to agree with ddrumdude. Most people would see Mcclain as just another metal drummer, but I think his drum parts are different and not what you'd expect if you heard the guitar riffs alone. Quite a unique approach to metal, for example using double strokes for one of the kick patterns in Aesthetics of Hate.

Plus, saying that fear factory are more original is just ridiculous. From what fear factory I've listened to, if you can learn one of their drum parts then you can learn them all.

  • I think he isn't properly THE best drummer, well because I consider the fact that there's no best drummer in the world but "a list" of excelent drum players. For me he's one of the world's best drummers. He diserve being in "that list".

  • true sayed, im glad that there still are people who dont care about just putting as much double bass hits in one bar but consider the creativness that is behind a certain drumer and dave mcclain is the shit in my opinion...he fucking rules along with lots of other drummer witch must people dont agree wiuth me(for example joey jordison...i know he sucks and all ...go to hell)

  • You cant compare these type of drummers. Just like you cant compare bands. They are all different, they have their own perks about them. These are pointless arguements that no one will win.

  • I agree with your comment. Which band and type of music, have his own style and characteristics. Cheers to Sepultura(melhor banda metal brasileira!).

  • Im not trying to start any shit.

    Yes, Dave Mclain is Good!

But, I think that Mark Eggers (The Casualties) [Punk Rock] Is Good...

I think that he could do everything that Mclain can do...

In "Aesthetics of Hate" Eggers does that beat almost in every song that he plays... 1 Foot... But, thats just my opinion...

Yes, Eggers is in Punk, but, hes good

  • Lars Ulrich and Dave McClain my two fav drummers. They 're diff from the rest!

  • slipknot and machine head what the fuck could be better!!!!

  • amazing drum who creates amazing beats and fills

  • dude your a fucking faget! Dave McClain is fucking god!!!!

  • Fail. You're an idiot.

  • name a better drummer then, faggot

  • buddy rich(not trying to be condescending or anything)

  • yeh, ok through technical skills id say Buddy and Neil Peart are probably better lol.

but personally i prefer McClain =]

  • i'm not saying he's not good or anything

  • Dave McClain. What a legend.

  • I love Dave, but Meinl > Zildjian by a loooong shot.

    Sabian....is ok.

  • thats you opinion though. i also used to have just a straight up meinl setup 2 soundcaster crashes an mb8 crash a byzance china and a pure metal ride with 3 classics splashes but now as of a week ago i got an entire set of sabian apx's i used to talk so much shit about sabian but seriously the apx series is AMAZING i have 14, 16, 18" crashes, 18" china, 8, 12" splashes and the 14" hi hats while i was at GC i tried a sabian o-zone 10" splash and loved it. to each their own as long as you love it!

  • Come to Brazil,4 fucksake!

  • Bitchen! glad Zildjian got around to speaking with Dave McClain
