Great day! I was there by chance having found a ride in a van by a group of swiss people in s.francisco and remember arriving in the afternoon at a temperature of 110 fahreneit the music had already started playing and people around drinking beer and celebrating! The dawn of a new era!
i mean just to back up what i said earlier look at the number of times people have viewed "woodstock 1969" on youtube it's close to 2,500,000 but look at how many times people have viewed this video about US festival 1982 and the number is only 6,193. Now i ask you, were the 80's that significant, pop culturally speaking? Turns out the US festivals were just another big excuse to party, nothing more.
i think there is a strong consensus not to remember the US festivals as a cultural epic of the early 80's by those who actually created it and those powers involved (save for the fans) because they were such money losers. Woodstock will always be remembered even by those who were not even born yet when it happened but ask someone about the US festivals who was born after 1982, and you get a blank look.
thats awesome i was there but dont remember a whole lot probably due to the heat lol i made it for the hard rock day the night before and on through the next night was a giant party
Great to see this! I was there Day 2 (Saturday)...Weather was hot and so were the girls. I raise a glass to you rodolfobelentani for allowing me and others the opportunity to look back and reminisce about Us 1982!
This is the first time I've ever come across so much amazing stock footage like this video, and it is an amazing experience to sit and watch it all unfold again before my eyes. It's like I'm there, transported back to 1982/83 all over again. Every emotion, every feeling, all of my dreams... they all come back to me like magic. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!
I never went, but the funny thing is that I remember the US Festival as one of the best times of my life. I was only 12 years old and was stuck at home 15 miles away, but I will never forget the US Festival as being the greatest time of my life. We watched the Showtime broadcasts and all of the news reports at the end of each day, I listened to the local radio stations and tried to visualize what was happening out there at that magical place in the hills. I always remember US when driving by GH.
anyone have a video of the gang of four set? they were the first band of the fest! that sounds really weird that go4 would open the apple computers fest with all the other mainstream bands popular in america...
In the parking lot at night was when the party started. We had the beer and they had the time of their life. So much fun as security pulled up and under their headlights, people were swapping stuff for our beer. You could not take beer in, so we sat on the hood of the VW and bartered. The party on the one end of the parking lot went all night and I passed out during Dead the next day. The laser lights at night were unreal; the sky looked like a canvass of light. The TV over the stage was tits.
I worked this as a security guard. Made $400.00 for the three days. Got to see some great music and beautiful Cali girls since I was stationed at the camera that was right up front of the stage. It was fantastic.
I was there, 25 years old...$37.50 for three days 20 top bands....took truck/camper RV camped out, got up each day and partied again, day after day.......Devore, Ca. Glen Helen Regional Park way back then.....girls girls girls.
I was at 82' festival and enjoyed it so much I wanted to attend the 83's but couldn't get anyone to join me and share expenses. There was no information that I could find when there to get money, like an ATM, so I ended up fasting the weekend not knowing there was a back area behind the stage where I could have purchased food, and other items (unconfirmed). It was very hot (being a high desert) and the fire hose spraying was very welcome.
This is what AMERICA was like before the Mexican invasion..I swear to god ME and my wife cried happy to see the old school footage...Thanks for keeping this alive ...AND to all you brown pigs out there...FU for making AMERICA a shithole!
I attended this. It was AWESOME. I don t know why they gave the 1983 one more credence. I am reading some of this stuff here. Who cares about with whose money. It was fun!!! Great, almost as good as Woodstock, some say better.
@78742Michael Yes, it was awesome! According to some friends who was in Woodstock and then in US Festival, the Woz's event was better than Woodstock! And I have no doubt about that. :)
u'r saying Woz gave u this video. I got this same video from someone else who claimed to have edited it. He actually has hours of the first US Fes. I watched most of it a few months ago looking for myself. So far, I just saw me and my buddy running up the hill at the start of this video.
@Hunkola Why would you even say that?? Computer nerds were the shiznit back in the day! Y'all just didn't realize it cuz you were too busy hatin' on 'em. Geezzzzz....
Thanx for the heads up. As far as facebook is concerned, all I found was an event "The 1983 US Festival "28 Year Anniversary"' and "Live at the US Festival".
There is a official page maintained by Woz. You may want to look. Just search for "The US Festivals" in Facebook. (Sorry, I can't post the link here.) You can find a Lot of pictures and memories in this page.
I was wondering why you used a Stones track for this vid since they didn't even play there? It would have been real cool to have had a soundtrack from one of the bands that was actually there. But thanx for the great footage!
I was there (from Canada) all 3 days. This is awesome footage. Finally some decent crowd footage of the 1982 fest! I wish I was on camera - part of history. Talking Heads and The Cars were my favorite bands there. Grateful Dead, Fleet wood Mac, Kinks, etc etc. Awesome!
@rodolfobelentani Even if he did, there is no way anything like this could ever happen again. #1 There are no good bands to play it - the only rock bands that play their instruments and don't lipsynch anymore are speed metal bands, and that would just attract all manner of losers, and too many mexicans would ruin it. 1983 will never be again. It was a magical time in US history that will never be repeated in any form whatsoever. The US sucks now. So sad. I think I'll move to Australia...
Thanks Woz it was a great event 82 and 83 unforgetable. Where did this video come from thanks for posting it Rudolfobelentani . All them people having a great time with all those great bands.

@chadkia Hello! Maybe Woz has picked up this video with your friend, and sent me later. I don't remember when he sent me... maybe a few years ago.
So your friend has hours of recording hours of the first U.S. Festival? That's amazing! Would not it be nice if he shared with us? ;)
Cheers,
