Who actually cares???? The point of ABS is that you can remain in control of the vehicle while braking.... Not stop shorter. A company would not develop and implement something into a vehicle if it made it more unsafe.... The more unsafe the vehicle is, the more accidents occur with them, which means the insurance companies charge a fortune to insure that model which means reduced sales..... Geez!
@larsagi2008 Actually its been proven that the most safety features a vehicle has, the more careless the driver gets. People get airbags, they tend to ignore seatbelt and go faster since "airbags will save them", they get traction control, they start slaming the gas on water/ice, they get ABS they speed around and slam the brakes ... I know not everyone, but its a tendency. Not that the car is less safer.. just drivers depend more on these systems instead of driving appropriately.
@ggeennttii0033 I had to remove 2 fuses on my car to disable ABS. However I had to reenable it because my speedometer and odometer depend on it. I need to figure out a way to disable it without losing the odometer.
@julesTEO if you disconnect the abs sensor from just one of the wheels, you will get the abs warning light stay on in your dashboard and very probably have your abs disabled.
in order to further increase the effect of what you're saying, if would be nice to see a comparison on braking on snow/ice.
Many ABS systems will go into disable mode if you disconnect one wheel speed sensor. A malfunction light will probably come on.
It's important to understand how these ABS systems are triggered, they help a lot if you drop one side of the vehicle off the pavement into mud and hit the brakes, but if you hit a chunk of mud with one wheel on pavement the ABS will prevent you from skidding that one wheel and can extend stopping distance by 10 to 20 feet!.
I've got an old Ford Escort '98 without ABS, and in panic moments is always the same. First you break too hard because of panic, then regulate it releasing the brake and, if the tyres are new and dry, everything goes fine. But i tested ABS in my father's Mercedes... its strange, no control over brakes, you can press the break as hard as you wish but that system spends too many distance drifting and controlling. But remember ABS is not to brake in shorter distances but to keep control your car.
i drive for more than 25 years, about 30000kms/year, allways faster than anybody else, many different cars. The only 2 times i hited a car were at 70Km/h because the unbeliavebly stupid ABS worked a loooot when it was not needed. The worst ABS was in my Honda Aerododeck 1.5, but most have the same idiot problems. The best one was from my beloved Hyundai Coupé 2.0: pressing the brake again harder stops ABS, i used this a lot and allways sooo perfect! I just HATE regular ABSs, dont want them ever!
watch?v=a47jUP9cB_k - Again, second 43. There's not much time before he brakes, until he flies into the trench. Notice the front wheel pointed on the road axis(countersteering), but it was too late, the wheels locked.
watch?v=PNR2oHqR0Ic - Here I guess you would have had time to regulate the brake pedal to brake, but seeing that f-ing truck sideways in front of you... Oh well, adult diapers are made for this.
And let's don't forget that 90-95% of drivers panic through the whole brake.
@Bogdan1Boggy Great vids. Now a days ppl just bash me so I don't even bother to reply. 1st and 2nd vid are definitely drivers fault... I mean, the honda was an idiot for trying to overtake like that, and the small white car was tail gating as hell, so well, ABS was just an assist for an accident waiting to happen. The third video, well.. that accident was completely unexpected. Yes ABS works, but just as you showed, cases are limited to real unexpected events, mostly its just dumbass driving.
@julesTEO If you think about it, 99% of accidents are caused by dumbass driving, the rest being technical failures.
The biggest problem with ABS in my opinion is the braking distance on snow. That wheel lock actually helps clear the snow away and reach the asphalt layer beneath. The same thing happens with sand.
I am sure things will advance in a way that abs ensures the lowest possible braking distance, regardless of the surface and conditions. Now, just like you said, it's not perfect.
@Bogdan1Boggy I would have to say that I am 90 - 95% sure You are wrong about 90-95% of drivers panicing during braking. I am a average driver, and I almost rear ended someone, but I used threshold braking instead of slamming on the brakes and stopped feet short from them. I also came up to a stop sign at 70 mph and slammed on my brakes without locking up the wheels and stopped just short of the stop line...
watch?v=isiuT1plL8M - This is from my own country. Please skip to second ~43. Let's forget about the Honda crossing the line in an imbecile attempt to takeover. Please notice that in that split second he maintained absolute control of the car. Notice that this was a brake in a corner, so any lock would've sent him into the gutter. No matter how experienced you are(imho, of course), you couldn't have regulated the brakes to prevent that liiitle lock that would send the left tire into the trench.
First of all let me congratulate on your videos. They demonstrate really well what you mean. I understand your option, and it would seem logical to have ABS off if you have permanent control all the time. The problem is that you don't. Sure, when you're driving on an empty street you can regulate all you want.
But let me show you two examples that I've came upon tonight(next posts):
TO AUTHOR MAYBY WITH TRESHOLD BRAKING IS SHORTER BUT 1) YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO DO IT 2) IN DANGER SITUATION YOU AUTOMATICLY PUSH FULLY BRAKES WHAT CAUSE BLOCK WHEELS.3) I DONT THINK SO IN SLIPPERY ROAD TRESHOLD BRAKING IS BETTER THAN BRAKING WITH ABS SO ABS IS BETTER IN ALL SITUATIONS FOR AVERAGE USER
Its just easier to throw abs on all cars due to all the morons on the road, rather then educate them about threshold breaking which imo works better then abs.
Good video, the ABS system is great for emergencies and etc, but of course threshold braking is better. Problem is: how many drivers know how to threshold brake? How do you know that the old woman coming in your direction on a turn will know how to threshold brake? the problem are the other, less-experienced drivers, that don't care to learn about techniques... But since machines and electronics are getting smarter everyday, it's just a matter of time to ABS become TBS (threshold braking system
@marcvie9 Lol, I hadn´t noticed this comment before, very funny.... I´m not talking on this video, I used text to speech software, so, its a computer talking.
You are in right man, have 2 car, one old and one new Civic.Old with out ABS and new with ABS and VSA and just don't like that ABS to much early is engage, make me to feel unpleasantly when pedal start to pulsing and I don't break hard or drive lock wheel point ( I drive spirited both car and know my and car limits) .
Definitely it is need to have switch like for VSA to turn OFF.
Problem is that when I feel abs come on I react as if its wheel lock and back off the pressure... and the few times I have been in a situation when ABS might be of use its no good since I am too unstable to break without loosing all control anyways and have to steer first.
On dry to moderately wet pavement I can hold a car I know well at the limits of the static coefficient of friction but if ABS comes on it is impossible and both my cars SUCK at keeping it near the coefficient.
@wartornpanda I know, it does work and is an extra safety feature, the point of all these vids I´ve posted is I personally don´t like it. I rather threshold brake, if I skid then regulate, if my car skids sideways countersteer and try to mantain control by myself (lots of work but then again, its part of driving). A lot of people trolling me around (I dont mean you) are barely old enough to drive and go around my vids commenting BS that´s not even worth replying to.
You do know that you can threshold brake even with ABS right? But the difference is, the threshold for your brakes in the rain, snow, ice etc. etc. is different than a warm sunny day. This is where ABS would come in handy. I agree, if you know how to drive, you can do a better job than the system, but the system doesn't keep you from driving the car how you want to.
@wartornpanda the point is that when a kid jump out on the road you are going to slam the break pedal trough the floor and not even be thinking about threshold breaking
ABS keeps you in control. While you might be able to stop sooner without ABS in controlled conditions, you will not be able to maintain that kind of braking in an emergency. The system would simply cease to exist if it served no function, which it clearly does.
But to be fair, when you are actually going to be using ABS, you will be braking in an emergency - ie. when your not expecting and planning what your gonna do. Almost all drivers will slam fully on the brakes instinctivly, they wont be thinking about regulating the pressure they exert.
@Nickomfacc You´re right, however my point of view is specting unespected.. for example if you are approaching an intersection and you´ve got a green light dont just run it as if nothing could go wrong, always step of the gas and be ready to brake cuz you don´t know if a kid who´s on the phone/drunk/stoned will run his/her red light. You have right of way but that´s no warrantee, never drive assuming everyone will do what they´re supposed to do. I don´t know if I explained myself
What you say about slaming the breakes vs lightly pressing them to avoide locking makes sense. However, during day to day driving, call it reflex if you will makes us slam the brakes in a paniky situation. This makes ABS an important feature to have. As far as the on/off switch is concerned its ok to have as long as it is idiot proof. We do not want one to crash and then say OOPS I thought i had ABS on.

@julesTEO The problem with ON and OFF options is that the general population ignores it completely or forget to change it.. That's why safety features like this one are not optional..
@MrHawkyy CHAMPION??? YOU ARE TERRIBLY WRONG ABS IS MOSTLY DESIGNED TO MAKE YOUR CAR STOP FASTER , ON SLIPPERY ROAD CARS WITHOUT ABS HAVE NO CHANCE STOP FASTER THAN WITH ABS AND ESPESCIALY YOU I SUPPOSE , AND REMEMBER IN EMERGENCY BRAKING MOST PEOPLE AND ESPECIALY YOU WILL BLOCK THE WHEELS IT IS AUTOMATIC REACTION SO I DONT KNOW WHAT ARE YOU WRITING
Second of all, ABS does help you stop faster SOMETIMES. The road condition you mention is the condition where it doesn't help. So you actually failed at giving an example.
When fully breaking on grind or ice the tires make a way trough the grind/ice and 'dig' thereselfs in. This happens without ABS. When ABS is active, this doesn't happen so the tires keep sliding ON TOP the surface.
If you don't believe me, check wikipedia. Enough said.
@MrHawkyy you just dont understand what is all about the discussion is over and send letters to all producers in the world why they are so stupid to put abs in all cars , man you are genius , you try to be intelligent that you know somthing more than average driver but you know shit and abs helps not sometimes but in most situations
@626malik I live in Mexico, and I couldn´t really explain "how" I do it, but since my accident in 2001 (episode 3) I started to practice because I didn´t want something similar to happen, it´s just getting to know you car, you can somehow feel how it behaves, basically about 10 years of driving
@626malik ahaha its hard to explain, but basically you get to feel your car and every car behaves differently, and I use treshold braking and also use engine braking (my car has manual transmission),... and that´s a whole other subject. I find it easier to explain the idea of treshold braking rather than explaining what´s going on in my mind when I have to do it
i still think people like my mom are way better off with abs
i would even prefer abs cause i don't know how i'll react
what if i'm gettin some head going down the freeway from some hot hooker, and all of a sudden some hobo decides to walk across the freeway and i don't have abs?
@DavidKneiber You´re right, not everyone should drive without ABS, I also preffer my family to drive with them. It also depends on driving styles, I try to be aware of everything around when I´m driving, people on the sidewalk, other drivers' behaviour, stopped cars, and stuff like that. I know for a fact that my sisters are used to drive just taking into account what´s infront of them, so they´re not the best drivers around, so ABS for them (still my sister´s car is not equipped with ABS hehe)
@julesTEO Well i'd like to think that i pay attention and anticipate other driver's intentions ahead of their mistakes, but sometimes i'm just not focusing on things like threshold braking. Maybe if i had practice like you, but i don't.
Also, (i don't know where you're from/are) but here in america, the number of cars w/o abs is declining really fast and all that's left w/o abs are the most bottom class. I'm pretty sure my bmw 335i (with abs) can stop way better than any entry level economy car.
@julesTEO Hey, I undertand how abs can be annoying at times like in snow but when you threshold brake on dry pavement how do you keep the rear wheels from locking up since that will almost always happen since braking causes the weight to shirt to the front, making the rear much lighter? I assume its more important to keep the front brakes from locking than it is the rear so you wont lose control. So when you threshold brake do the rear brakes always lock and you just worry about the fronts?
@Njderig when I´ve had to brake on a straight line rear locking isn´t a big deal, but I´ve also had to brake when I was changing lanes and rear locking made me skid sideways, on this situations I rather release brake and keep control and steer away from anything I could hit, also depends on the situation, sometimes I just might countersteer and release a bit the brakes
@Njderig its imporant to keep control of the car in whatever situation you might find yourself. Sometimes it isnt a big deal, for example in the video in the full lock situation I just skid forward, but last night the road wasn´t that regular and I skid sideways a couple of times, so I had to countersteer to avoid spinning around, then again I was playing around when driving back home hehe, I just try to avoid front or rear lock at all times (braking while turning tend to lock fronts in my car)
There is nothing good about ABS because When my dad was driving our truck and had a big trailer on the back, He went to stop and...... THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD and wouldn't FUCKING STOP. He almost ran out into a fucking busy intersection. we Had to put it in neautral stand on the brakes, and step on the E brake and grab the trailer brakes before the fucking truck stopped half way out in the intersection. we Started trying to stop about 300 feet before the fucking intersection. ABS is dangerous!
@MegaMaster456 Bullshit, Those new "Safe" pickups is what almost got me fucking killed! I've pulled 60,000 pound loads just fine with my 74' pickup before no problem ( illegal but I had to). Pull a heavy load 24,000 pound load with my dads new truck and guess what that new "Safe" truck wouldn't stop because of that "Almighty" "Great" ABS. Plus My dad has shoulder problems caused by the seatbelt and Airbag. NEW TECHNOLOGY IS DANGEROUS! THERE IS NOTHING SAFE ABOUT THE SHIT!
@jsatriani0078 continued... The "safer car" was at fault, both driver and copilot were injured (wearing no seatbelt) and they were unexperienced 17yo kids. Both cars totalled, luckily I came out without a scratch (I have a vid, check it out watch?v=GF-olmOS4wY) So it rlly depends upon driver, those kids on their equipped car reacted the wrong way, I coulnd´t do anything, and the key factor on this accident was unexperienced driver. (if anything, ABS helped him stay on its way towards my car lol)
@jsatriani0078 Again I would say it depends on driver. I used to have a simple car, with no ABS, ESP, EBD or any assists. It was a 2001 astra with no airbags. I was driving around when a 2006 Sebring, fully equiped suddenly went into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with me.
@jsatriani0078 I just found upon experience that under CERTAIN scenarios ABS dangerously increased stopping distance. This doesn´t mean that I advise everyone to disable it. It´s a personal choise and every driver is responsible for it. Just don´t let the media overrate the system
@jsatriani0078 I´ve had this sort of discussions over all the videos I´ve uploaded about this, sorry I´m not in the mood to keep the topic. Bottom line is ABS is safe, it works, but it doesn´t really save lifes by itself, only driver and desitions made while doing it cause or avoid accidents.
@jsatriani0078 well, road imperfections (not on this case since these roads are new) bumps, cracks, patches, and stuff like that. ABS activates when there´s a rapid desceleration of the wheel, not when its locked. There´s the video, no bull.
@thaik56 Google "text-to-speech.imtranslator" first result is the engine I used, sort of limited but good quality and no "water marks" hehe. greetings!

@100superbuldog
Dude, I said check wikipedia. So check it before you post something dumb.
And also read what I write.. I said it was not DESIGNED for stopping faster. You might want to look up that word.

JulesTEO is correct: farther denotes physical advancement in distance.
Thanks for the good info, Jules!

thanks a lot !

it is further not farther, also low speed is good, speed cannot be slow(the car can drive slow which means the speed is low)

@paulmagnnum hehehe, thx for the corrections, I´ll keep them in mind in future vids

where do you live and how can you do treshold braking.
626malik 1 year ago
@626malik I live in Mexico, and I couldn´t really explain "how" I do it, but since my accident in 2001 (episode 3) I started to practice because I didn´t want something similar to happen, it´s just getting to know you car, you can somehow feel how it behaves, basically about 10 years of driving
julesTEO 1 year ago
@julesTEO you live in mexico I Didn't know that. and you can't explain how to treshold braking hmmm.......
626malik 1 year ago
@626malik ahaha its hard to explain, but basically you get to feel your car and every car behaves differently, and I use treshold braking and also use engine braking (my car has manual transmission),... and that´s a whole other subject. I find it easier to explain the idea of treshold braking rather than explaining what´s going on in my mind when I have to do it
julesTEO 1 year ago
@julesTEO oh I see what you mean. I was like "what" like he know how to do it but can't explain it. (giggle)

i still think people like my mom are way better off with abs
i would even prefer abs cause i don't know how i'll react
what if i'm gettin some head going down the freeway from some hot hooker, and all of a sudden some hobo decides to walk across the freeway and i don't have abs?
Rest In Peace hobo
DavidKneiber 1 year ago
@DavidKneiber You´re right, not everyone should drive without ABS, I also preffer my family to drive with them. It also depends on driving styles, I try to be aware of everything around when I´m driving, people on the sidewalk, other drivers' behaviour, stopped cars, and stuff like that. I know for a fact that my sisters are used to drive just taking into account what´s infront of them, so they´re not the best drivers around, so ABS for them (still my sister´s car is not equipped with ABS hehe)
julesTEO 1 year ago
@julesTEO Well i'd like to think that i pay attention and anticipate other driver's intentions ahead of their mistakes, but sometimes i'm just not focusing on things like threshold braking. Maybe if i had practice like you, but i don't.
Also, (i don't know where you're from/are) but here in america, the number of cars w/o abs is declining really fast and all that's left w/o abs are the most bottom class. I'm pretty sure my bmw 335i (with abs) can stop way better than any entry level economy car.
DavidKneiber 1 year ago
then if you were to stop a car without abs..would you pump the brakes?
upnthemorninway2soon 1 year ago
@upnthemorninway2soon No. Threshold braking.
julesTEO 1 year ago
@julesTEO Hey, I undertand how abs can be annoying at times like in snow but when you threshold brake on dry pavement how do you keep the rear wheels from locking up since that will almost always happen since braking causes the weight to shirt to the front, making the rear much lighter? I assume its more important to keep the front brakes from locking than it is the rear so you wont lose control. So when you threshold brake do the rear brakes always lock and you just worry about the fronts?
Njderig 1 year ago
@Njderig when I´ve had to brake on a straight line rear locking isn´t a big deal, but I´ve also had to brake when I was changing lanes and rear locking made me skid sideways, on this situations I rather release brake and keep control and steer away from anything I could hit, also depends on the situation, sometimes I just might countersteer and release a bit the brakes
julesTEO 1 year ago
@Njderig its imporant to keep control of the car in whatever situation you might find yourself. Sometimes it isnt a big deal, for example in the video in the full lock situation I just skid forward, but last night the road wasn´t that regular and I skid sideways a couple of times, so I had to countersteer to avoid spinning around, then again I was playing around when driving back home hehe, I just try to avoid front or rear lock at all times (braking while turning tend to lock fronts in my car)
julesTEO 1 year ago
@upnthemorninway2soon well on snow or ice you should pump but dry ground then threshold

ABS is dangerous!
sonicthehedge1900 1 year ago
@sonicthehedge1900 maybe you should get an SUV or minivan.or those new pickup trucks with tons of safety features.
MegaMaster456 1 year ago
@MegaMaster456 Bullshit, Those new "Safe" pickups is what almost got me fucking killed! I've pulled 60,000 pound loads just fine with my 74' pickup before no problem ( illegal but I had to). Pull a heavy load 24,000 pound load with my dads new truck and guess what that new "Safe" truck wouldn't stop because of that "Almighty" "Great" ABS. Plus My dad has shoulder problems caused by the seatbelt and Airbag. NEW TECHNOLOGY IS DANGEROUS! THERE IS NOTHING SAFE ABOUT THE SHIT!

i totally agree with you. nice work there btw

@4515jonny Yes, ABS works on low traction conditions.

(if anything, ABS helped him stay on its way towards my car lol)
julesTEO 1 year ago
@jsatriani0078 Again I would say it depends on driver. I used to have a simple car, with no ABS, ESP, EBD or any assists. It was a 2001 astra with no airbags. I was driving around when a 2006 Sebring, fully equiped suddenly went into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with me.
julesTEO 1 year ago
@jsatriani0078 I just found upon experience that under CERTAIN scenarios ABS dangerously increased stopping distance. This doesn´t mean that I advise everyone to disable it. It´s a personal choise and every driver is responsible for it. Just don´t let the media overrate the system
julesTEO 1 year ago
@jsatriani0078 I´ve had this sort of discussions over all the videos I´ve uploaded about this, sorry I´m not in the mood to keep the topic. Bottom line is ABS is safe, it works, but it doesn´t really save lifes by itself, only driver and desitions made while doing it cause or avoid accidents.
julesTEO 1 year ago
@jsatriani0078 well, road imperfections (not on this case since these roads are new) bumps, cracks, patches, and stuff like that. ABS activates when there´s a rapid desceleration of the wheel, not when its locked. There´s the video, no bull.

abs save life! brake with abs shorter then no abs

Thanks for the video.
Here I wanted to prove that ABS doesn't perform better than the foot of a well trained driver which is the threshold braking =)
