Sorry but being a british/ Mauritian I have to say Mauritian mentalitiy is the same everywhere. I moved to Mauritius seven years ago and I don't remember mauritians bending over backwards to help me fit in. Like I helped alot of mauritian imigrants when they came here.
Oh n Mohamed ki arriver pa? tro rest ici pa p gagne creole la dans la guelle la?
The only one who gave good advise and talk sense is Moha *** He is genuine !
You Basant; a typical juke box of bed time stories... When you were interested to come to England you went to the British Council in Rose-Hill... No mountains in London but only monkey playing tabla on the show, hard to get rid of them.. Thank god theres no zoo at the palace !! By the way; when you use coconut oil on your head, put some cucumber cream on your lips.. they look horrible in the clip. Hasta La Vista Amigo.
Basant, i definitely agree that its not easy when someone first arrives in a foreign country. I also appreciate your curiosity but not your ego to show off in the mini mini clip you made. What have you done to help others? I can tell you, Thanks to Nodody; i managed to acheive much more than i expected from myself having been strugling and suffering for a few years. If i had to rely on people like you!? God knows our hearts and intensions.
@1987Wrath : Hey, man dnt call others ass hole..!! i bet yours is lovely.. because youve got the voice of a ladyboy, your picture is lovely too. I want to take you to my place and wach you dance.. sing a song in the shower.. there will be no anger with you, You want love..? I will tell you my life stories in my bed privately ......
im half mauritian myself and go to mauritius every year and when i talk to some people there they say they want to come to london to "have a better life" but they dont understand to have a better life u have to work to get it not go on the doll and not work ! like africans they come here and kill us when were drunk and walking home from a good nite out !

I think this is a good report on one aspect of migrating to the UK. Every country has its problem - and every individual has different needs at different point in his life. When making a good living is a priority, there are lot of places better than Mauritius - so UK is definitely one place to be for that. However, with time, some people realise that they miss the social network, family, culture and recognition in Mauritius. So those who feel hostile to the poster, think again ...

oh stop whingeing. if u're not happy, piss off then. if they did their maths, none of them would be in financial hardships. For those suffering from homesickness, u should socialise more often and get to know british ppl. STOP being in your own mauritian 'world' wherever u are. Learn to live and respect the country and it's ppl.
I do wonder why Mauritians leave a beautiful island like Mauritius to come to a miserable cold rainy country called Britain. However I do understand that if people want to get a better life, they are prepared to travel half way round the world to get that life.

I have to agree that the first month in any foreign country is very hard, you have to get used to a new language and a new culture which may seem very weird. I'm not in the UK, I'm in France, but I've experienced what these guys are going through. But the thing is, you cannot expect a foreign country to be just like yours, you're the one who should change, not the opposite. It's also very important to have suficient financial resources to live life decently in Europe.
I gotta say that Mauritians who come here and whinge deserve no better than a good bitch slapping, easy to slate a place & its people when things don't work out go back home & stop whingeing. As for making a 'docu' about Mauritians being ripped off it would have been good if it'd included Mauritians that had made it here. As for those Mauritians who say that naturalised Brit-Mauritians are low or whatever it sounds like you're haters & jealous of those of us who've made it, PISS OFF THEN!
@l2eaz .....please you're making me laugh stop it! Yeah I was born in Mahebourg & have been here since 64. I'm proud to be Mauritian but ain't proud to see utter losers trying to make out that as if its tough here, if its that tough (boo hoo) then piss off back home where its sunny all year round and everyone's really nice and happy & helpful to everyone else & in love with everyone, know what I mean.
as if its tough??? fuck off man.... and no, dont know what you mean at the end of your sentence.... shut the fuck up. you piss off, if everything went well for you here in the uk and shut your fucking mouth and dnt laugh at others.... faggot

why would you want to leave Mauritius in the first place if you don't have a plan or if you don't want to study in the UK or if you don't know what you want from life? you can't just leave your island and hope that life somehow will be better elsewhere!!

Hi, was there myself. yep life is not that easy. was just wondering if mohamed the guy in the movie, forgot the creole language or wat. line tros van dhall pouri sa.lol
a piece of advise i can give to any one comin here, in UK; dont come here if you have no qualifications because life will be more than hell be prepared to face the worst, i mean like sleeping in the pavement...like dat...count on urself and be intelligent!!
pense bien avant met lipied dan avion. i do understand why people leave our beautiful country, its because of our stupid government. wat the hell is dat ??? apres banla p recruit expat. zot coner kumen pou boufonne dimoune.bisin dir banla aret bez largent moricien,et govt bour dehors.. mo chagrin ki nou population mauriens bane moutons, a chak fois vote mem hypocrite...

i was born in mauritius but hold a british passport i came to uk in 1997 it was hard to get a job u lot need to ave patience nowadays all mauritian student come over spend a lot of money but they dont study wat the point stay in mauritius an invest the money in something gud rather than coming here n suffer just go n do ur course this will help u in da future peeps dont worry abt money or thinking or getting married to get the rite to stay here our mauritius is a paradise am lucky
you make me laugh ppl. mauritians will never change. yea every ppl do say it..there was one time when i had no money even to buy food. if u r coming in the uk..at least make some arrangement for money mate. wat do u thnk...everything is given out here??
Coming on a student visa..just for the sake of working full-time...gosh!!
Ima mauritian nd proud ov it yh bt i rckn dis vidz iz absolute bullshit...u talkin bout comin here 2 settle yh n u fuckin criticizing uk n its peeps ..get da fuck back wer u cum frm prick.u disgust me.ima law student fightin 4 ma degree nite n day yh n ma description ov hardship will go beyon ur imagination...u in london yh? kul bruv, jst sort ur fuckin shit out instd ov fuckin wingin like a pregnant bitch all da tym yh? b a man stand up fite da war .. stop cryin yh..coz u ent goin nower...
Another comment .. if we fought to be independent from the british why are we running away from the country now??? Its so sad that we were past british colony and now we(mauritians) are systematically refused entry to England... When they needed us they used us and our country so much ... when they are finished with us they throw us.. and we thought Independence would be Freedom... well we are very much disappointed now
Wah man maurciens ...pas tout mauriciens mauriciens... ena mauri..lichiens.. si zotte pas conner ... ena korek mais ena banne malpropretes racailles volerrs ki p bourrers pou evites courts justice in mauritius... wah mone bien gagn coups ar zott.. I was trying to help a new person in Australia and he just stole money from my bag when he had the occasion... so beware Beware Beware... if they can eat you they will they will sell their own mother to get money
This is one of the best, realistic and genuine Mauritian documentaries I have seen in a long time, well done to the producers and I hope to see more videos on Mauritians in London, Vive Ile Maurice.
p.s. Lever do mo peuple, prend conscience, prend conscience realite!!!

wel sed karl34m! ive got alot of fam that have come over from mru to study and i knw dat tdey have found it really hard to adapt. i think wot ive noticed more than anything is that wen they r in mru they have a really good friendship with their m8z and they are sum1 there, but wen they come over here, they dont have their good m8z n they no longer feel as safe or important.
hey cherry, i came here 2 yrs ago!!!n i came here to study nt 2 mke families!!!im gonna get my degree n zats it!!!i knew when i was coming UK, i wud be on my own, i promised myself, i wudnt tke any support from any1...the fact is i was well surrounded by my parents n cousins...it was veryyyyyy difficult in da beginning, but i survived. u hve 2 get used to it!!!
I think this video is very informative and conveys alot of useful information, especially towards Mauritians who are thinking about coming to the UK. My cousin will be coming here to study and I will definitely e-mail this video to her so that she can obtain a true insight as to what life is like here. Well done! :-)
to that sod who has got a bottle of water in his hand. why should people help you? everybody else is arrogant and bad, he is the only true mauritian.bullshit! he happily admits that he used his friend to come to UK, now he is looking for other simpleton to take advantage of. be a man! i had friends who came to me when they had essays to write or coursework to do. they even came to my workplace bugging me for my essays.just an example of how mauritians are.
theres 1 thing ive learnt in this life, u dnt gain anything wizout working hard n struggling!!i guess they are making life diffcult for us!!!u knw what mate, im aint giving up!!!!
good video..........personally, i despise british-naturalised mauritians...for no apparent reason. if u happen to be one of em, well this goes to u........and hey, if u dont like what i've said, well u can always KISS MY ASS!
Hey mate as a British Naturalised Mauritian, may I just say that you are a twat. Quite frankly, it's a shame you weren't brought up here, you might have acquired some form aof sense of humour. Man, you are tragic

A very well documented video! Shows all aspects of Mauricienne expectations! I hope everyone in this video has found what they were looking for, but to say to the guy sitting on the bed (water bottle in hand), not to compare the two countries. You are in the UK & you will find what you want only by hard work! Someone will not come to rescue you every time you are low on money or friends, missing parents or friends back home is part of the course. Dont give up, try harder!
moi mon ne ici, mais selment lived in mru for a 6years and came bac to get married with mauritian girlfriend. it was just us gurls alone, without parents here, and believe me, although iv lived and was brought up here, it was f***kng tough, nun pass bcp difficulter, but not as much as you guys coz we both had the right to work full time,
For all of you that are watching this,,,,, i have one thing to say to you COME TO AUSTRALIA,, FUCK ENGLAND, there are the people who are trying to be better then other mauritians,,,just because its England,,,,,, Australia is easyer and much better .. Trust me you will feel at home....
Mate, Aussie is no Eldorado for Brownies/ coloreds. Racism is the norm. Be another coconut to scrape a living there. You aren't going to feel at home even there...
Nicely filmed and shot..and some good points..but u should as majority have said. had some different perspectives *_* Bonsaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Alllezzz mauricccccccccccccce *_*

Krissock I was born in Maurice, loads of Mauritians are up their own arses there & love getting 1 up on their bredren back home its not like its unique to the UK @ least you know where you stand here! Hate hearing Mauritians whingeing, get on with life.
Also Mauritians that I meet in public especially the student ones think that they are more British than the British when they meet other Mauritians. Also back home when I was on holiday they all seemed to want to rip me off taxis, clubs, shops etc luckly I understood them so I managed to bargin a deal with them.Maybe you should do a documentary on 'Why do UK Mauritians get ripped off when they go back home on holiday by everyone!'
Excellent documentary, but as some of the previous people have mentioned its all a one sided opinon, you should interview some UK Mauritians.
I'm a UK Mauritian that has experienced both sides of life, living in Mauritus and the UK. Some Mauritian students that I know that use to work for me were really hard workers and I treated with so much respect but 3 of them seemed to have a hidden agenda in the end they disappeared without trace only to find them in a Mauritian party.
Liked the video, topic, editing etc although i thought it Should have had a few views from British born Mauritians and why they are so up there own arses.
- Life is a hard grind and i guess when Mauritians come to the UK the hard reality hits them that no one gives a shit about anyone and no one trusts anyone. The helping mauritian is reduced to looking out for number 1,Its what the UK does to you.
This video is one sided. Maybe Chand should also include students who have come through all of the troubles of being a mauritian in london and made it!
andrewh09 may have a point albeit terse, I'm mauritian but playing the victim doesn't get you anywhere. i've south american friends who as students have 2-3 jobs on the go so that they can succeed, nothings easy in life sounds like some of the mauritians in the vid are feelin sorry for themselves, go home then!
I'm 100% Mauritian but I hate Mauritians dissing the UK. If people don't like it piss off back to l'ile maurice! Whats the use of saying Mauritians over here aren't like Mauritians back home, matlo main reason Mauritians here don't put out is because those coming haven't done their homework! Nuff times I've heard of some mauricien/ne looking for an angle to come here! If you wanna make things happen for yourself go out & believe you can moaning ain't gonna get you jack shit
5 zetoiles pou sa video la. I am in US studying and it's not that different here, 4 years ago immigration was not as severe but it is now. I think the real issue is the brain drain happening in mtius, everyone leaves and does not come back. This actually affects mtius even more. You have to be the change you want to see in others. Mone koner mo per cause bel coser mais bon...
Brain drain in Mtius? u got to be kidding, buddy. Ain't seen nothing in US? Here in America well-educated immigrants do low paid jobs just to make ends meet? Will these half-baked, heavily accented pals from Mtius swallow their ego and do drudgery. We're mostly loud braggarts and big time liars....
Im born and raised in London but I have family in Mauritius. A few months ago, I moved from my home in London to Mauritius. It is ok, but it is still hard to adjust to the Mauritian way of life (as these Mauritians are with London). However, at the end of the day you do have to realise that setling down in ANY country would be hard at first but you have to make the effort to do so.
its a good doc...things are not so different in aus....but here its seems there is more luck for more people...but anyway whateva doesnt kill you make you stronger
this video is great... thks for doing or uploading that! very gud job! 5stars! im not in london but in Sydney and I believe this video is very informative somehow somewhere. i miss my country :'(
mo trouvé ki éna boukou moricien ki couma moi envi rétourne dans zot ti zil, moi mo dans la france dépi 8 ans et mone plein ar ca pays la. rezment lannée prosaine pé rétourne maurice acoz la mo né plli capav tini. maurice li dans moi et sel lendroit kot mo senti moi bien c cans mo ti pays mem si éna kitsoz pa tro bon mai li reste mo pays et mo pou touzour content li.
Illegal immigration makes me ashame of the colour of my skin. I hope this video will show mauritians that life in England isn't glamorous (dont expect to live off benefits like asylum seekers), especially in this political climate. Expect racism (a lot more than in mauritius) even from those with same colour skin as yourself. Thanks again for the documentary. Post it to the BBC. They'll love to broadcast it!!!
Sorry for the numerous posts!! I am just amazed by the sheer number of mauritians who want to emigrate to the UK. Taking into account the appalling economy of Mauritius, I can see why? I recently had an aunty over from mauritius. But during her excessive stay she was trying to obtain a student visa and work illegaly from another mauritian. She actually became clinically depressed because she founded life so hard over here.

Mauritius has a lot of potential but with the sheer number of young adults moving abroad, slowly that potential is dissipating. Work together and not against each other. Learn to question politicians in mauritius! Stop spoon feeding your children with tuition and such. Get them to think on their own feet. Set up some sort of watchdog to root out corruption. Thank you again Mr Shaan Cheekhooree for posting this documentary.
I think u guys should either harden the fuck up or get the fuck out,at least it's not Australia.

Sorry but being a british/ Mauritian I have to say Mauritian mentalitiy is the same everywhere. I moved to Mauritius seven years ago and I don't remember mauritians bending over backwards to help me fit in. Like I helped alot of mauritian imigrants when they came here.

So dont project yourself as a hero please.

Britain has one of the highest costs of living in the world. Not a place to go if you don't have money, or a plan.

As for those Mauritians who say that naturalised Brit-Mauritians are low or whatever it sounds like you're haters & jealous of those of us who've made it, PISS OFF THEN!

morismozil 3 years ago

Another comment .. if we fought to be independent from the british why are we running away from the country now??? Its so sad that we were past british colony and now we(mauritians) are systematically refused entry to England... When they needed us they used us and our country so much ... when they are finished with us they throw us.. and we thought Independence would be Freedom... well we are very much disappointed now
