There is a unit for sale here in my city, really cheap too, might pick it up for use as a controller via midi. With all the DAW's available with midi learn, i think it would be better than a dedicated midi controller due to its 24/96 capabilities. I may never use the ad/da convertors or the pre's but its nice to know I could if I needed more tracks.
Thanks for your time in putting this video together. Ciao.
I would like to connect my DPS24 with Luna 2 soundcard through ADAT cabels...I have expansion card with all 24 channels for sending to PC( i would like to record on PC)...any advices?
As far as the crashing thing, I have never experienced it. However, that is most probably a function of how I set out to use the DPS24 and have never really changed my work habits. I keep only a very few projects on the hard drive at any time, using SCSI to move projects back and forth between the DPS24's internal hard drive and computer.
That's my only compaint (not a small one) but I would never give this machine away or sell it... I love working with it.....while praying each time I turn it on... :) What's your take on the crashing John?
Out of a 80G drive... the machine will crash at about 5G or ...I've tried several different types of drives that are compatible with theunit but it continues to happen....I continually now clean up the drive space frequently....but it IS a pain and I really feel it's a drawback regarding this unit.
However.... and I hope you still respond to these comments John....the one annoting thing is the fact that the machine does crash from time to time......it's scary to say the least.... I have figutred out that it's commonly due to having to much on the drive....which disappointingly is not very much space that you need to have filled up.
I have the MKIV and, although I primarly do voiceover work, it's PHENOMENAL!!! I'm just now seeing this tutorial 4 years after first having the DPS24 and then upgrading (really exactly the same machine just in Black instead of Silver) to the MKIV... I'm only about 15 minutes into the first tutorial video in the series and it is very detailed and "RIGHT ON"...learning a few new things as well.
I've had one for 2 years and love using it to record but I've had enough of it crashing (5 times). Yes, I back up everything to computer but the trouble of having to retrieve this often makes it nonsensical and infuriating to me. Just going to get Logic and a Apogee ensemble. Take my advice, don't go near this machine, it'll give you a nervous breakdown eventually...
Except that they are incredibly unreliable and the hard drive keeps crashing. Also the make a horrendous noise which makes recording in the same room (most home recording) almost impossible. Great interface, easy to use, theoretically a great board but don't touch these unless you want to be tearing your hair out every month or so having to figure out why it won't let you access your projects etc....
This is the best tute on the market...you need this to make things easier..even the Akai most updated tute is not as good as this dude.Ecxellent...really.
I'm just beginning to get into recording - I'm using a Yamaha keyboard and occaisonally a mic as inputs & of course would like to eventually make CD. What I'm wondering about is whether or not this overkill for me or will I grow into it?
Unquestionably. The machine is loaded feature-wise with all the things you'd expect in a "studio" and soundwise...nothing touches it. It really is a shame that it has never been promoted/marketed the way it ought to be. It can easily stand toe-to-toe with modular systems costing many times more.
Thanks man , This is exactle what i needed to decide if this machine was what i was going to invest. I currently use a Boss BR1600 which is o.k but a little mickey mouse , ive also had a Korg D3200 WHICH WAS BETTER but the effects sucked. I was worried the Dps would be extremely difficult to use but after seeing this, it looks very straight forward and a very , very powerfull machine. Im sold.
Is this thing really the best thing out there ( as an all in the box recorder) i really hate using a strictly software based rig,i tried reason/mbox 2/ pro tools , more time trying to figure shit out than making any music. Most reviews are unreliable at best, and even sweetwater and musicians friend tell you one thing one time and s/thing different the next , the best way is get info from people who own it so any comments are appreciated , thanks.
Is this a MkI or MkII?

Very nice machine ...I am trying to find one...any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone know if you can use a mouse on the small Akai screen ...without the big external monitor?

The machine is indeed extremely powerful. It is still in many ways unique all these years (around 5+) after it's release.
