  • Looks like a Harlan's Red Tail morph or perhaps just a bark morph of a RT.

  • Far too small to be a golden eagle. It is a hawk of the buteo genus. The coloring looks like a short-tailed hawk, or a dark morph of a broad-winged hawk. Either way, I hope it turned out ok!

  • Great video but ANNOYING. Why in the world did you add that stupid chanting music???

  • That's no Eagle....an eagle has much thicker legs and larger feet/talons. It looks like a hawk/kite.

  • Beautiful bird, fabulous video, GREAT JOB!!!

    5 stars Mike & Gloria

  • Looks a lot like a Golden Eagle. We have those around Big Bend National Park in south Texas. You guys did the right thing and I am proud of ya'll. Its nice to know there are other people that feel the same about wildlife. Unfortunately, many of the animal rescue places are not operated by the same. They're more into 'animal control' (not saying PW is one of these). I am hoping that this fellow made a complete recovery and was released. I'll follow the link and check it out. Great job, guys. =D

  • I'm sure this kind of thing happens all the time out in the wild, and I respect the ferocity of wilderness, and all that. But honestly, I'm glad that you did all you could to help that beautiful little creature survive.

  • great video man, I thought it was cool how you where able to see this as more than just some eagle hurt on your property. :)

  • Bonita California - That changes things. That has to be a Juvenile Bald Eagle because of its beak color, wing underpattern and size.

  • Its not a Bald eagle or a hawk, it looks like its a young and diseased Golden Eagle which was being harassed by a Cooper's hawk. You can see the deformed beak showing that its been affected by some kind of chemical.

  • the music sounds like buddhism monk praying?

  • Yes, the second music piece is Buddhist monks chanting a healing mantra. The first song is from Jorge Reyes featuring Maria Sabina a real (but now deceased) native shaman from Oaxaca Mexico. The whole experience was intense, and spiritual. I thought these sounds fit it well.

  • Now that I take another look at it its possibly a large hawk because I saw the feet bare, and a golden eagle's feet are feathered. Also that Hawk is much smaller then an Eagle. Depending on where you live, It could be a Dark Morph Ferruginous Hawk, A zone tailed hawk or any type of Buteo Hawk.

  • Good production. Nice that people still care about wildlife.

  • this is a good video taking I wish you can always see that eagle

  • A KLASSIC DOCUMENTARY

  • Dude, seriously, the chanting music HAS to go. It's really annoying and tacky. The video is pretty sweet, though. Amazing.

  • Get rid of the chanting music -- it's cheesy, unnecessary and actually messes up the video because it makes it difficult to hear. It's way too loud.

  • cool video but wtf is with the chanting music background?

  • yeah im suprised nothing got broken once the dog bit the redtail hawk and it couldent be free for 15 minutes i couldve sworn it had something broken to make it not free

  • its a cooper's hawk that attacks the redtail. Impressive the way it stood it ground.

  • It is a juvenile red-tail hawk, not an eagle! And this video proves how unqualified some wildlife agencies are. The lady should have handled the bird and never let the man handle it, although he probably did a better job than she would have. Next time, get online and go to the California Hawking Club website and call one of their members, they will be better quailfied to help the bird. But good job for helping the bird out. Fred

  • invisibility jutsu

    look at the vid

  • You are called to be the peacemaker as a path way to the light and as a demonstration of your wholeness and worth. The eagle deliver the message. The entire universe supports you in making peace where ever you are and in in every storm that comes upon you. No one is against you.

    Namaste

  • The bird is in fact a juvenile dark phased red-tailed hawk and he has not yet been released but will be soon. He was not injured, just extremely thin and weak; we assume he was not very good at hunting and are making sure he can hunt well before being released. And the man was provided this exact information by myself and the rehabber who is working with the hawk.

  • Sorry, above is a quote from a message I received from Project Wildlife people.

  • Scotpond: That's great that you were able to get an update. I was given the phone number to the "Raptor Team" but did not follow up with them since then. I've been extremely busy and haven't had a chance to put together an update. Thanks for taking the initiative.

  • lol yea i like it ..:P

  • reply#1: Awesome! - The first track is from was produced by a musician from Mexico named Jorge Reyes. The amazing thing about the track is that the lady you hear chanting is a real and well known healer from Mexico. The way I learned about by reading a book about Jimi Hendrix who actually went to her village in the mountains of Quaxa for a healing session with her. At any rate her name is Maria Sabina.

  • Reply#1 Continued: Jorge Reyes recorded her chanting for his album a few years before she died! The second track is a "Tibetan Chant" The Tibetan chants are known to be healing. I choose the two tracks since the eagle needed healing.

  • what'a this fuckin music !!!!!!!

  • By asking that are you saying you like it not? FYI: I'm working on a new video wiht the music a bit lower and that will included the conclusion with the an update on the bird.

  • wow!!!

  • Added note: I must say I was enthralled by the way the bird stood its ground against the dogs. Weakened as it was, unable to fly, it stood proud, showing no fear.

Also fascinating is when it came to you, and you were eye to eye through the fence. Amazing closeup. In hindsight, I might even say you were chosen. It came to you because it knew you cared and would help. You just didn't know it yet.

There was a very "knowing" look in that eye that nearly filled the screen...

  • its amazing to experience this and to save our wildlife out there.

  • great coverage just next time don't use music it gets in the way of the story of what your telling or just lower it so it doesn't over power the video. anyways its kool.

  • I'm going to redo the video cause it has al sorts of problems. I'm new to all of this. I used Sonic software. It's my first vid editing project. Quick Quesion: Do you know if I re-upload the new video will I loose all the comments? Or should I upload it as a new video and direct people to it? Thanks, Cris

  • Cris,

I'm a noob at this myself, but on a separate "work related" channel I've been doing some editing and posting, and I'm seeing vast improvements over my first attempts a few months ago. It just takes practice, and discovering "features" that you didn't know were there.

My suggestion would be to post the new vid separately, as "Take Two" or such, and link it to this one by making it a video response to it. That way you're not taking any chances with the existing comments.

    Moosie

  • Thanks again Moosie.. that's what I was thinking cause you don't want to loose the comments, and ranking and stuff. P.S. I'm going to try to brush up the story and have it published in a local newspaper. Half of the article will talk about the saving and the experience but the other half will talk about what to do in these situations. My contact at PW has agreed to an interview.

  • Excellent. Publicity can do nothing but help.

And assuming that they're agreeable to letting you do some filming of your own, a followup of the bird's recovery, and its return to a healthy, happy life in the air would be a great ending to the story right here.

  • Mossie, that's what I'm hoping for.

  • Update#2:(Continued)The second email provided me with the number to a lady who is the "Raptor Team Leader" at PW and provided me with a direct phone with an invitation to call. I'm not going to call today because of my busy schedule but here's my plan. Update the video, write a story about it since it's so interesting, and make people aware of Project Wildlife so that they know what to do if they find a harmed animal. The good news is that the bird was just hungry! I'll keep you all updated.

  • Since there was no evidence of a physical problem, my fear was that it was ill. There are SO many pollutants in our environment that can kill these birds. Malnourishment can be fixed.

I like your idea of promoting awareness, as most people DON'T know what to do or who to contact. Help is there, but it's obscure.

Please do keep us up to date.

  • Update#2:Ok the final update on this story! The outcome is good. In the last 30 minutes I received two emails from my contact at Project Wildlife. The first one was the good news that the bird had been located and that it is fine. It is underfed and malnourished. My contact called animal control who confirmed that the animal was dropped off to one of the 5 San Diego locations. Whew! She also said the eagle is "a juvenile dark-phased red-tailed hawk" Seems weird to me since it was so big!

  • Whew! That's a relief. It shook me to think that a bird that important could just disappear into the system, when its life could be on the line.

I was fairly certain it wasn't an Eagle, and that it was probably a juvenile "something," but there wasn't enough detail in the vid to be sure at all.

The Red Tail is a BIG bird, and like the Eagle, the juveniles are often near fully grown before they get their adult feathers. Big kids...

  • Update#1: Somethings wrong! I finally got a hold of one of the directors at Project Wildlife and apperantly they did not recieve the eagle! I then called the animal control and they said that the record in the computer said that the eagle was delievered to PW! I emailed my contact at PW and they are not absolutly concerned because they confirmed that they DO NOT HAVE THE EAGLE! What's going on here????? This is very mysterious and I'm staying on it and will post again as soon as I find out.

  • WOW! I was about to add a comment on this amazing experience, hoping that you'd keep us updated, and then I read this. It was NOT was I was hoping to see. Very mysterious indeed! I do hope you find out that it's ok!

I applaud you for caring and rescuing it.

    Moosie

  • Moosie,

Thanks for your shared concerned. The Mystery has been solved. I will be posting a new comment with the update.

  • Cool video. It's quite an amazing animal, hope all turns ok to this eagle. Take care ;)

  • that was so cool! just hope we will be ok.
