I don't think apple would do this. if they did this it would be the same as the macbook air but with a bigger screen, so why not just make a bigger macbook air. so if they did this they would be pretty much getting rid of the macbook pro completely Also the macbook pro is intended for professional use with its more capabilities and more ports and to have long lasting battery. I think that they will have ssd, better graphics and processors and possibly a redisign.
@themacguy27 first of all, apple external super drives only cost about $70, and second, unless you're a student in a film class or something like that, you won't need to burn DVDs very often.
What about installation/recovery discs? The need for the discs is rare but the discs have been included nonetheless. Guess the buyer will be expected to purchase an external device should the need arise - or no more installation/recovery discs?
@marce11o Well, Apple has been making optical drive-less computers for a while (macbook air,) and with the 2010 release of the air, they included a usb flash drive which served as an installation recovery disk. However, with the release of lion and the updated line of macbook airs, the installation/recovery software is actually stored on a separate partition on the SSD. This eliminates the need to have an external recovery disk altogether, though I believe Apple will sell them separately.
