RiderScan and resume!!!, just shows how that van did see but decided to ignore it, I am always covering my horn in these and similar situations and I believe not enough emphasis is given to instant use of the horn. It has saved me umpteen times. Ride Safe
Everytime I take my bike out,Triumph Trophy 1200,I seem to become invisible to car and van drivers! So tend to ride as if other road users have passed their test with the Stevie Wonder Driving School, most of the time Im proved right. By the way I drive a big white van at work,so am aware of bikes.Keep it shiny side up.
I thought the point of this video is showing how we can avoid others causing us to crash, not going into detail about where we do a shoulder check. There was no danger where he did it and if he wants to and it's safe, why not? Some people always have to pick fault. Good video rider!
Perhaps I dont get it, but a life saver to resume, takes your eyes off the road ahead for too long in urban traffic, because there is more chance of something happening ahead than to your rear offside, also the slowing down life saver confuses me, what are you looking for? that would stop you slowing down. Cheers
@grahamzx9r Agreed, it's an old video AND is aimed at putting basics into new riders more than advanced riders so gets them into a basic "observation" habit. We encourage mirrors more now. Cheers
These situations wouldnt piss me off so much if it wasnt for the fact that I never seem to ever pull out on motorcyclists or cars (I ride a motorbike). Even with my extremely limited vision due to my helmet taking up my entire peripheral vision, I can still see oncoming vehicles. The bike was easily visible from the vans perspective personally. But yes, agreed, mr 50mph fireblade would be very critically injured, and would be in the wrong.
After the van driver had pulled out, you omitted the extension of the right arm and the raising of the digitus medius, also the compulsory slow head movement from side to side in a lateral plane, indicating the disdain at the afore mentioned drivers observational skills, was nowhere to be seen. However, if the "C" word was being shouted in the finest of our Queens English, then perhaps the previous errors may have been overlooked. You should retire and hand the reigns to your chief instructor.
@kingabunyip ..if only my chief instructor was man enough to hold the reigns. He's only just qualified enough to herd sheep but I'll stick with him. ;-)

The moment the van has clear visibility of the bike he pulls out. Those people should be killed if they cause an accident.

Nice one, what about use of horn to let someone know you are there?

@daveinutopia...There's no harm in sounding your horn at all. Many thanks for your comment.
