@JoomlaMonster Yes I do and I am making more. If you have topics you want to see covered you are stuck on send me a message and I will make the video.
Not to hijack this video, but after working with Concrete5 for the past 2 weeks and then checking this video out to see what else is out there, Joomla isn't so impressive, It really looks like Concrete5 just stomps the heck out of Joomla.

Can you create online ordering system for user/customer so the customer logs in, types in a couple of lines, adds/uploads their logo and the order & artwork are then given to us in a format that we can send off to a printer. Customer would need to see a proof. Can you streamline this process?
Challenge:
1. File needs to be sent to a printer we use in new York in pdf, ai, tiff, jpeg….Good thing is size and format are the exact same.
@BigDDe yes you can create this. It requires some massaging of code that is already out there, but it would not be that hard. Send me a message on youtube and we can talk about it.
well i just rcently started using joomla, but ive been using Dreamweaver /photoshop for ever. Say I created the entire site before hand on dreamweaver, but my client wants to use joomla because hes familiar with it. would I have to do the entire site again using Joomla? or is there a method I can upload the site, and then use joomla for the CMS?
@HBLefty Sorta, you would need to turn the design from dreamweaver into a joomla! template and install it. Then Joomla! could be used to control your content. If you know a little HTML it is not hard, Joomla! has 'magic' bits you put in your needed div's that will be replaced with your content and modules. You can find online how to create a basic joomla template.
@spongebob12345 it doesn't really matter, but I like to pick out the domain first, they are very cheap (hosts like MLDS just include the first domain in the hosting package). This also lets you brand the site when you build it, most sites you refer to the domain many times in the sites content.
@DarkFuryPunisher I would say it is more dynamic than wordpress but if you want something like yelp it is going to take a lot of work. You can build these addons for joomla, there is a good book I have by LeBlanc on how to do this. I would say that wordpress is not nearly as good for doing complicated things.
@palen12 Hey i have my website but its with webs.com and i have a template that i got from joomla and i want to install it but idk how to can you help me or am i doing something wrong?
@spcruising All I can say is keep trying. If you need help there are companies out there like MLDS who will help you when you get stuck and let you keep going on your own.
My own case when i first found Joomla! a number of years ago It confused me so much I didn't use it for a few years. I then picked it up again and it clicked. The point of this video was to explain the parts that caught me so others would not have to go though what I did.
I only have a few weeks to decide to change to a new venue. I have figured out a few things in Joomla, but have LOTS of questions. Not really into reading all that copy that goes with help. Right now one story has no WordWrap..copy goes off the page. Large spaces appear. Or don't appear.
@spcruising A few common problems cause this. The first is a poorly designed custom template. The other is copy and pasting in articles into the editor from Word or other processing program that supports formatting (bold, colors etc). The joomla! formatting gets placed on top of the Word formatting causing issues!
If you want contact me and I can help you with this. Once you see ways you can fix it once or twice you should be able to cruse though the rest of your needs.
@TutorializedHelp Correct hosting sites requires real resources that cost money to maintain power and keep secure.
You can get hosting from my Company with Joomla! setup for you for only $5/month which is about as cheap as you are going to get. Message me if you have more questions
@VsimponsV you need to place joomla on a public facing web server. If you don't have one already I sell these at at MLDS. If you want help doing this ether on MLDS or on another service, please send me a message and I will exchange emails/IM's with you to get you going.
@joan2mar the look will depend a lot on your template. Is that what you are asking? If you don't wish to have an article appear right away you can uncheck the 'published' box and publish it at a latter date.
Is that what you were asking? If not provide some more details and I will get back to you.
i mean as you edit joomla does your site edit along with it. e.g if you edit at yourdomain(dot)com/joomla/administrator does it edit your actual site?
@joan2mar yes it does, of course changes are not applied till you hit 'apply' or 'save'. There is currently no way to 'stage' changes.
There are features like 'start publish date' where you can write articles that do not show until a given date. This is good for many things, but if you want to edit a given page that is already public viewable and not have the changes appear till after some date or after further editing but also save the changes there is no way to do that currently.
Artisteer (the expensive version) exports excellent looking web templates to Joomla (and wordpress, and others) It's not got the flexibility of a true HTML / CSS expert coded site, but you can get something together for Joomla in about 5 minutes. If you can design some basic craphics for a head banner and maybe a couple of other things you could have a customer website, unique and just how you like it in say 30 minutes
what about meta description? do you need to write them in HTML format or can you just ype it into a box that automatically turns it into a meta description?
You can highlight, there is a dropdown box in the editor that will be marked 'heading 1' which is and H1 tag. That said there is also an 'edit html' button, which lets you edit easily by hand, and see the changes. The best of both worlds.
This is pretty wild stuff. I used to make websites back in the day and I had to edit html codes of each page one by one. Then there was shtml which was much easier to manage, then I worked a bit with PERL/CGI to manage my site as it got larger. What is Joomla powered by. I remember when I got out of the computer/web design/web master thing, PHP/MySql database was beginning to get pretty big. I'm a designer at heart and I would love to get back into it. Can you tell me the backend of Joomla?
Sure! Joomla is PHP/MySQL powered. At MLDS we run it on regular Apache on Linux. We also run Apache in a virtual machine to give isolation and quick VM migration.
I found joomla for the exact same reason. I was awful at html but I had a need. By becoming a member of the Joomla! community my time creating websites was cut dramatically and looks 1000% better. I love it.

So let me get this straight: Joomla! is just like WIX, am i right? Only WIX is majorly a flash-based site builder.
nirvanafrik 1 year ago
@nirvanafrik I don't know WIX, so I can't give you a good answer, but if WIX is a CMS then yes, if it is just a site builder than no.

what about meta description? do you need to write them in HTML format or can you just ype it into a box that automatically turns it into a meta description?
stavrosdemetriou 2 years ago
For Joomla under site configuration, you can set global meta tags and description.
On per article basis there is the 'meta info' tap on the right, which lets you add an additional description and keywords to specific items.
