I put together a PC with a Q9650, 8 gigs of DDR2 1066 ram, (2) 500 gig HDDs with dual boot XP Pro 32 bit and WIndows 7 64-bit, and (2) GTX 460 (1 gig) in sli. The whole system was under $1,000 and it'll smoke that Alienware PC. Even in 08 that computer could be built for under $2,500.

Alienware is pretty powerful hardware, but the price is just way too much for what you're getting. The processor in that Alienware PC is pretty weak, even my HP computer from 09 had a faster dual-core, and I don't see how it's not a bottleneck for (4) 9800 GTX chips.

@FenaDevka Today you could, but back in 08 the QX9770 was the premium quad core for a LGA775 socket motherboard. Intel still has extreme versions of their processors, like the i7 980x that is also priced over $1,000. Yeah, you could build that PC in 2008 for around $4,000. Even today, with the price of that CPU, to build that hardware the way it is with that Alienware setup, you'd still spend about $2,000 to do it.

Keep in mind this was in 2008. Today you can get 12 gb of ram DDR3 and a i7 extreme processor overclocked to 4.0 ghz 12 mb cache. As well as Dual 2gb ATI Radeon HD 6950 with crossfireX. Trust me guys your little computers will not beat this -_-

@Letsplayoldschool alienware is never the fastest, there is much more power packed into the pc built by pc gaming enthusiasts. have you ever seen alienware with 4 2GB radeon hd 5870's, intel core i7 980x at 4.6Ghz, 6-8GB of ram @ 2000Mhz and 2 600GB SATA 3 velociraptors with cpu, gpu's, motherboard(mosfets, northbridge, southbridge), and memory being liquid cooled? i dont think so besides you get better warranty and quality with a custom build + the pc is a truly Personal Computer
