Hey Eric, just thought that you should know that I'm featuring you on my blog this week for my players list. You truly are very talented and enjoyable to listen to. I'm going to post this song on there for the others to enjoy. Thanks for playing so beautifully.
The tune is irish and is normally spelled Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór. As you say, by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) and it translates as something like "Little mound, Big mound", but the Sidhe, the "people of the mound", were supernatural beings .... so it's often translated as "little fairy Hill, Big fairy hill".
The tune is irish and is either Sidhe Bheag, Sidhe Mhor (old spelling) or Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór. Certainly a 5 star rating! The leader of the band, of which I am a member, loves this tune and we have played it at ever gig so far this year. I also like it slow and cool just the way you are playing it.The Ookpik Walz is another favorite. I like your taste for good music.
Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad to see people appreciate it the way I play it as it seems that most people like the play the song a little faster and more up-beat than I play it.
Yes, I am left handed. I enjoy being able to play the lead with my left hand so I can do the chord work with my right hand, I think it helps to fill out the sound and makes the instrument more of a solo instrument than it usually is.
