i hope this game is the star trek version of eve online not the exact same of course but for those who play eve you know theres alot of cool things to do theres no real story line but theres endless options im hoping this game will be the same idea :) cant waite

Guys, this game will not come out until March 2010. Fall 2009 release will not happen for one simple reason: Closed Beta hasn't even started yet and it's already the end of August. They will need many months of beta testing before they can release, which will put it at March next year.

this will be awesome when it finally comes out. i wonder if they will do like warcraft and start off with a few places to visit originally and then expand the "universe so to speak" with each new box set. unlike all other online games, this field of play, at least in space" is litreally infinite. but im hopeful!

A game of this scope basically just needs alot more than your current MMO's offer, just to be viable. It demands both world and spaceship experiences, not only that multiple worlds, a huge galaxy, its like 5 types of game in one if you want to do it right. If they build it right with room to grow, it could supplant other mmos. With a whole galaxy, you could have some pretty huge variety of content.

They better do a good job with this game, gonna be hard to try to go head to head with WOrld of Warcraft. But we all know we need a new game, im so bored, I flip through all my games anymore because there is nothing to do. It better not be corny like star wars galaxies where i erase it the next day and toss it in the old game pile. And they better not wait 2 years to release it or the graphics and game will be to old to even want to play anymore!

First: It's not known yet if Cryptic Studios even has this game, all we do know is that it's a Bay area development house.

Second: At this time Cryptic has other projects in development, even if they do have STO...the chances of them actually thinking about working on it won't be for a LONG time...time that simply won't wait for STO.

In closing, moving this game is only delaying the inevitable and frankly it'll be next to impossible to incorporate everything that is Star Trek into a MMO.

Hopefully Cryptic Studios hired most of the employees that were laid off and is indeed the unknown developer working on Star Trek Online, but I guess no one knows for sure. By the way, whats the music for the video before the credits? Great video. You did an awesome job with what little there was.

Without the code, whoever takes over Star Trek Online will be faced with a lot of work to complete the project, which means that fans may have longer to wait for a completed Star Trek Online.

As of January 14, 2008, Perpetual Entertainment is no longer developing Star Trek Online. The license for the game and all of its assets except for the code have been transferred to an undisclosed Bay Area development studio. On January 18th, all STO developers were laid off by P2 Entertainment.

I feel awful to be the one who has to deliever this news.

But the game has been put to rest. Development at PE has stopped, the game is no longer being actively developed, and has been boughten by another developer, without the basic source code.

Forums predicts years before the games release, if it even occurs... Even then the games current direction is leading to great disappointment.

STO has possibly become a failure.

Also the port from realistic to stylized graphics was another poor choice. The game screens look very much like a space-style World of Warcraft... and frankly I wasnt impressed, I was saddened.

Star Trek Online started as something that sounded amazing. The way I see it now is very different. I doubt that it will ever truly live up to fan expectations due to all the changes made the the gameplay and the now apparently missing RPG elements. I only hope that it is a good game, but its likely I will spend very little time playing it, if any when it is released.
