I think with pistaccio its better ...yummmy!!!!! where can I get this phyllo dough from???anyone know ?if you have a better recipe or the same can you send it please!!!thanks!
I agree with 3091621, it is Turkish sweet. The phyllo we use in here is not like in Turkey it is very thin so you need more layers :-))) usually, people do their own phyllo in Turkey . Pistachio is more expensive than walnut, it is more economical if you're making more baklava. I personally like the walnut filling , yummy!
Well my parents are from southern tunisia and they said their ancestors are called the berber which originally are turkish and i'm pretty sure are the founders of baklava so if you're greek or persian stop saying you started baklava
I can make baklava from scratch starting with the phyllo sheets made of eggs, flour, water and oil. Then after stretching the dough I cut the sheets and let them dry. From there I lay down one sheet, brush the sheet with butter and then the nuts. After this procedure, I cut the sheets crosswise and stick it in the oven.
I bake it over low temperature, prepare the syrup of water and sugar with a bit of vanillla, pour on the baked baklava and let it cool down, fridge it goes.
Why not use peanuts or some other nut but STOP calling it a Baklava. Why do you Americans have to "murder" every century old recipe?? You don't make it "yours", you make a mess of it.......It's an insult to the ones who respect the tradition. I'm Belgian, so don't go saying I'm being partial.
If you are going to make a cultural dish, you should work on your pronunciation, and do more homework on how to make it authentically and properly! I understand that you caucasian americans are always trying to put a new spin on something old, or leaving something out; this doesn't need that! you cut corners with your ingredients, no nutmeg? clove?, honey you might as well calll this cinnamon toast crunch. I mean this in the best way so that you may improve in your endeavors as a chef.

Baklava is Turkish and not Greek, also like sarma and dolma these are turkish food.
For the lady, in Turkey we love it with Pistache. You should try it. And dont make that amount of layers. One or two layers are way enough.
