Sensei Asano was showing Kanazawa a great deal of respect in the kumite and allowing him to show techniques I remember sitting there watching it. Trust me there was not too many Japanese or otherwise that could get the better of Asano at that time, i wish there was film of him when he really kicked off he was incredible and variation of techniques was phenominal, double mawashi's, scissor takedowns, double foot ashi-barai you name it he could do it, on anyone. .
Osu both great Masters. However Kancho Kanazawa's superior skills even in light Dojo sparring are see.And clearly demonstates how he has taken a stiff shotokan style to be relaxed and effective.
This brings back memories, I think Vince must have been standing next to me. This was just after Sensei Asano's summer course at Nottingham University I think.
Vince, is this definitely from 1970? I ask as it looks like both Kanazawa and Asano Sensei has an SKI badge on their gi's, which as we both know wasn't "born" until 74/75 ish
Having trained under both of these Master when they were younger I loved seeing this, poetry in motion. I feel quite honoured - thank you for posting and reminding me of those days.
No sorry Vince Morris is the man for videos

Two great masters. Having spent a fair amount of time with Asano Hanshi, he is also a true gentleman.
