Thank you Car and Drive for having a review that sounds like it has been written by a 7th grade child. I love the MP4-12C too, but actually get into why it is number one, rather than read a paragraph consisting of generic and general info. It sounded like it was being read from the back of a cereal box. Aren't these guys supposed to be automotive journalists?

I would definitely take the GT2. Wouldn't even hesitate. Most reliable, best residual value, pretty much all other reviewers will tell you it's actually the quickest accelerator, and if it ever gets the opportunity to feature on Top Gear I guarantee it would slap the 458 and MP4 in the face with its' lap time.
Ask the people who know, the Stuttgart Stallion has always ALWAYS done it best.
About $70K less than the Ferrari or the McLaren too.
@unclepic1 depends where you live.In England cars are much more expensive than elsewhere.I live in Canada where the GT2 RS has an MSRP of $280K,the McLaren $325K,and the Ferrari $350K.
I realize these prices fluctuate a lot country to country,keep in mind the GT2 RS is $280K flat,where the $325K for the McLaren and $350K for the Ferrari are BASE prices. Once you pile on options..it starts to inflate a lot.
The GT2 you're right is a tad slower to 60,however the 911 Turbo S is Veyron/GTR league.
The very attributes C&D claims the Ferrari and Porsche have are what people buy super cars for. No one commutes in a mp4-12c, 458 or GT2. If I was ever to have 300K to spend on a car I would have to be pretty F^#$!#$ passionate about it. I would not want it to compare the ride to a Merc. And another thing. SAVE THE MANUAL!

@Embrarer Because none of these cars have awd... the gt2 has always been a rear drive version of the turbo. The only porsches that do not have rear wheel drive have a 4 in the name, are the turbo models, or are a model of the cayenne. No worries learning new things is always good.

first mistake of this test is that they are testing the mclaren on the top gear circuit where it was first developed....to be correct they should take it to a track where none of this cars have driven before!!!
I should mention that the Ferrari has a naturally aspirated engine (no turbo!!) Porsche 1 Turbo and McLaren Twin Turbo....Ferrari is the best....The winner is 458 ITALIA.

If you need a car to be sexy and make noise you're compensating. The Ferrari would be last for me because it's neither as raw as the Porsche or as complete as the McLaren. The Porsche would be a great laugh if it's a weekend toy and/or track car but I'd take the MP4 and drive it all the time. It'll shut up and get you places in comfort when you need it to and go like a stabbed rat when you're in the mood. Infact I'd have an M600 over all of them because it's just funny.

Porsche is much more race Oriented than Ferrari actually. f1 is not the only motor sport. Lets not forget that Renault is one of the most dominant teams in f1 (RBR) and we don't see them making very good cars.

I dont understand this match up. The GT2 RS is a stripped out track model of Porsche's flagship. The Ferrari and McLaren are base models of those company's entry level offerings. Help me out here.

but the mp4-12c isn't a faxmachine... watched the top gear video in the last time??? the mclaren is incredibly fast car which is - in my mind - more like a race car than the other two... and if you like the looks: thats your oppinion, not a fact!

@stotheimon1 The mp4-12c is the faster (?) than 458 only for Top Gear. However this only happened after all the others (Brits!!!) said Ferrari is faster and BETTER! Above all McLaren is boring......in comparison, of course!
Porsche is better than McLaren as well.

@Magico070 noo not only on top gear... the mp4-12c got this clever traction control system... it is just the faster car... no was around that. maybe the 458 is more fun, sounds better and so on. bust it just isnt as fast as a mc laren... on the nordschleife the mclaren was 10sec faster than the ferrari... ok there the gt2rs was faster, but the whole car was developed on this course... the mc laren on a flat airfield^^ on a flat track the mc laren even beats the porsche

Because in america criticism is seen as something bad.. Something that can only hurt sales and cost people their jobs. Therefore open criticism of american products is entirely unamerican and therefore, when Europeans criticise american products the way we criticise our own stuff, the answer is always the same OMG.. I dont understand this match up. The GT2 RS is a stripped out track model of Porsche's flagship. The Ferrari and McLaren are base models of those company's entry level offerings. Help me out here.

The 458 is a better car cause it's the best car for engaging the soul, which is what supercars are supposed to do. If I wanted comfort, I'd buy a Bentley. People buy supercars for excitement, not for going to the supermarket.
