Yes, she'd bask out on the rocks all the time. Last spring however she climbed the fence and was never seen again.:( We're pretty sure she made it to a nearby swamp and is still living there, happily everafter.:)
then they should not haven stunk, i have an adult res, and 2 babies housed together with no agression.. btw open lid.. no odor, the filter media doesnt even stink..
I have some red ears and yellow belly terrapins in my pond. I live in the North of England and although winters are pretty cold the terrapins re-appear in the spring looking good as new. I wouldn't mind living in a slightly warmer climate like yours - I only really see my terrapins and fish for about half of the year. Check out my pond on my channel.
That's great! I love my turtles and they make it through the winters just fine. They can take pretty cold weather as long as the pond dosen't freeze completely. They will hibernate at the bottom until it gets warm enough to comemback out.
They will freeze here too, but good news! There are many species that can survive a harsh winter as long as it dosn't freeze completely. But it might do so there in the UK. If you make it deep enough you could put in some koi and goldfish, they are coldwater fish and may do well in a deep pond.;)
hi i wonder is your pond in the uk? As i want one my self but as they grow quite big i think its probably best if i kept them in a pond but will the uk winter harm them?>
Hello, my apologies for ts]aking so long to reply. We are along the northern Gulf of Mexico, north of Mobile, Al. The winters in the UK may be too cold for tropical fish, but koi and goldfish are coldwater fish and can survive as long as the pond doesn't freeze completely through.
A "homemade" biological filter. I have plants growing in a waterfall that in turn filters the water, somewhat. Plus I still do a regular water change if we have no rain to do it naturally.
Sorry for taking so long to answer, just getting to this one.:) Anyway, no mechanical filter, just natural, biological filtration through the plant roots in the waterfall. I do weekly water changes as well.
hello, i was wondering... i hav a 35 gallon pond filled not even a quarter of the way up, it has 1 taro, 1 unbrella palm, 3 water hyancth, and a bunch of duck weed, it gets about 4-6 hours of sun a day and i wanted to put 4 turtles in it, a baby snapper, a 5 inch snapper, and 2 baby res. i was wondering if my water wood turn green? please reply.
Anyway, to answer. Most all ponds will get algea build-up. That's what turns the water green. You can add a chemical treatment to control it. It's safe, won't hurt the animals or plants.
The snappers will eat fish! My turtles eat all my aquatic plants too.lol
She was eating them! The turtle climbed the fence and escaped. Now, there's soooo many fish in here i can't count them... so, aparently she was eating the small babies. The adult fish were just too big to catch. And, the other turtles are now in a separate pond. I feed them a commercial turtle food.
Well, now that the turtle's no longer in the fish pond, I have more fish than before! I started with the four here, later two koi were added. This year I have countless babies and young fish! So, looks like the turtle may have been eating the eggs or fry all along. The big fish were just too big for her to catch. I have my other turtles in a sepreate pond now.lol
Hello, it's a typical garden pond found at most retail lawn & garden centers. Most carry them. Prices vary by size, this is a 90 gal. Less than 100$, all you do is dig whole in ground, fill. Fish, plants, turtles optional.:)
No, actually it will settle to the bottom and the water will clear nicely after a couple of days. Also, twigs & leaf litter is good for a pond. It helps condition the water for aquatic plants and animals.:)
lol, actually, the turtle is missing. She climbed the fence and escaped a few months ago. All the fish are well, and, I'm happy to report are breeding. I have lots of new babies. Video coming soon!
They'll hibernate down in the deep water or burrow into the mud. They're a native species and can take pretty cold temps. As long as the pond dosen't freeze completely, they do fine. They breath underwater through their butts, for real! Although we rarely have freezing conditions for more than a few days at a time. Mostly in the 60's & 70's for winter here.:)
Was only around 80 dollars I believe. Nice little pond for the money. The filter is a waterfall with plants to promote biological filtration. Plus I do a partial water change regularly. The fish are breeding! I found babies this summer.
This one's a 90 gal. I've put in another that's 170 gals. I'll post some video of it soon. I enjoy them. I have a couple of pet turtles in the larger pond as well.:)
Good luck with your pet, I hope it gets big like Rose-Bud. Sliders are great pets. The pond looks much different today, I'll have to post a new video of it soon. I have three turtles now.:)
Thanks.:) Well maybe you can do a small indoor one. I've seen these small garden ponds set up indoors and they look pretty good! My fish and turtle outgrew their indoor tanks, that's why we built the little pond. They're all doing great out there.
Hi again! A turtle like Rosebud, a TX red-eared slider, can be found in most pets stores for around 20 bucks. I've had her a long time. She's 6yrs old. Outgrew aquarium, reason for garden pond.:)
Thanks for watching the video, hope I helped answered your questions.
Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply. It's not that much, less than 150 bucks, including the turtle. Or, you could introduce a native species of turtle to your pond for free.:) Make sure that's legal in your area first! Some species are protected by law.
The pond is small, 90 gallons, about 3 feet deep. It's the turtle's home, SHE dosen't have a penis.:) She has no mate yet either. Hopefully she will one day.
Thanks for watching, and the laugh. Remember, it's not the size that matters, it's the way that you use it that counts.:)
No, there's a fence around the pond. Her mate did climb out and escape during a bad storm. But Rosebud, seen here, seems quite at home, she has no reason to leave. She has it all.:)
I too have a Texas red-eared who is nearly three years old now. I rescued him from a parking lot in San Marcos. He's out-grown his tank and is now living in a kiddie pool in the back yard. One day, I hope to build him a similar environment.
Nice video. Btw that is way too much food for your turtle even with 3 goldfish helping. If you feed this much, I would suggest skipping every other day.
You're right, this is WAY too much food, I threw a little more in this time to keep them coming to the surface, so I could see them all. Rosebud is a typical turtle, a little camera shy.lol I skip feeding every other day. Since it's a new pond, the biological filtration is still being established. I do a water change at least once, maybe twice a week too. Like I do my indoor aquariums.

@wildstar1 try installing a wooden fence around your home, so stray cat's or animal's won't try to harm it.
