My observation, this is not a valid compare of two systems. i have just done price compares and utilizing the common sense Vision method of optimizing a computer system trying to oust bottlenecks like Linus said. Also Overclocking ANY Intel CPU will not only void the warranty but also that of an Intel Mother Board. Even with coolers these components will age much faster. An Intel i7 950@ 3.06GHz with MB can use large broadband tri-channel memory" ' AMD can not. price is $280.00 to my door.
@mikethemoneymaker Also I realize these systems are really set up for gaming but doing a fair full comparison would also include business and networking applications. I dare this AMD system of six cores to keep up with the 4 core i7 950 system matched with proper mother board, ram...I bet it cant be done when optimized equally. Having said this I own several AMD X4 970 O.C.machines at home that kick butt , were very cost effective build compared to Intel. They are almost like running a server
That background reminds me of YTV... ya... channel 25 long time ago! The hosts had a very similar font/size/color scheme back ground!! Ya... im in vancouver too.
For the record, a 4 core vs. a 6 core isn't always the best straight up comparison as the clock speeds tend to be faster the fewer cores you have. I'd rather see a Phenom II x4 go up against that Intel crap.
@vh2k lol intel crap? that 6 core only can compete with the 920, and atm for an extra 50-70 you can get a 950 which blows the phenom II x6. if it has the same price point it can be compared.
@B1ACKROSEZ The i7 950 has 1 MB of L2 cache, 8 MB of L3 cache and a 3.06 GHZ clock speed compared to the x4 970 which has 2 MB of L2 cache, 6 MB of L3 cache and a 3.50 GHZ clock speed. Oh, and the x4 has an unlocked multiplier. :)
The was i see it as of now intel has better performing cpus but of course they are more expensive than AMD. But that doesn't mean AMD cant do same if you remember the p4 days. AMD wasn't always price/performance, they just have been with the phenoms. Which is why i dont believe in loyalty over pieces of circuitry like you fags do, both companies have made better performing cpus than the other. So I take what is best for me at the time.
LOL why dont you fanboys put aside your stupidity for once.I really dont understand why Im seeing comments like "oh linus your comparing a 4 core to a six core" They are in the similar price range and they perform about the same this is a fair comparison(and yes i own an i7 860)
AMD six core cpu is very attractive(i just dont like the 1100t cause it seems pointless compared to the 1090) i might had gone for one if i didnt build my rig around feburary 2010
Bullshit. He said around 50 FPS in Bad Company 2 with the 1100T and the 6870. I'm running an AMD Phenom II X4 925 @ stock speeds with an EVGA GTX 470 and I am getting around 70 FPS on maxed out settings.
@asddsaaassddd i have a 470 and even i admit the 6870 is an overall better card. trades blows in performance depending on game, runs cooler, quieter, uses alot less power, newer, has MLAA,and will only get better with age. Nvidia had to drop the price 100$ on the 470 also they werent even in the same catagory. i got my 470 for super cheap at 180$ thanks to the 6870.
another dumb isnt ht the sht of intel the only things is does is over charge the memory like turbo memory n all intel tech. i talk about hypertransport not HyperThreading sht.
may be corsai pay. but amd i dnt think. amd always have better design n new tech. like their bus is 32 bits, full speed n duplex. ht is much better n compatible n also is a standard almost all chipset maker use ht. have better sw tolerance. of course in the market we have many bad sw or not made for amd micros, ati or nvidia. also they have some little bad design somewhere like all makers.also u not must pay 600% jst for an image product or name n that came with old tech. also use soi tech
@icguilty HyperThreading is seen as something of a joke in the truly high performance CPU industry, like those created by Oracle and IBM which run on RISC architecture. Those CPU's have been running multi-threaded for years before Intel showed up with anything that did anything remotely similar. Many super high end workstation and super computer CPU's have as many as 64 threads per core, which when used with properly coded software has OUTSTANDING performance.
one of my old system i have:mobo:m4n78se.memory: 2 ddr2 stick of 1 gB each running at 533 mhz base clock. micro:amd athlonIIx2 265. dgpu: 9500 gt xfx w/512 mB memory ddr3, running at 800 mhz base clock. i can play crysis warhead in very high. also dirt, grid with 16qcsaa which is better than msaa. the system u show is very great,.but i like more nvidia platform better drivers n tech. yeah some sw are very bad. ea have great games but really but programming.
@nobodypersonsomeone If the game is multi-threaded then you'll see a performance increase clock for clock with the X6. Software is moving towards multi-threading at a decent rate, so the 1100T would last much longer in that regard with the extra cores.
This whole "intel i7 hyperthreading = 8 cores" is purely market gimmickry. The fact of the matter is that yes, Intel CPUs put up better numbers than comparable AMD CPUs, but the difference at most is maybe 10%, and that's being generous. If you buy Intel, your still paying 300% more in most cases; not to say that Intel is "bad", just saying that the increases you see with Intel are almost negligible, especially compared to the price:performance ratio of AMD CPUs.
@afinewaytodie I should also include that I build PCs PRIMARILY for gaming. I'm not a video rendering kind of person, I pretty much just browse the interwebz, do some basic school work, and game. That being said, AMD makes more sense from my perspective. If I was going to do a lot of video editing and CPU intensive labor, Intel is still the obvious choice. Although, if I was going to be doing a lot of video rendering I might just get a mac, or at least a hackintosh,
@afinewaytodie I'm not a fanboy at all, i do think that AMD has a great price for performance ratio but you're wrong on so many aspects on both CPU devolpment and pricing. Do some more research, look up and compare prices, and then come back with a concrete argument based on actual facts and not in correct BS such as ''but the difference is at most 10%'', there are so many factors that would determine such a percentage.
@dchains Um, well, ok. Here's a scenario: the 1090T costs $230 on newegg.com, the closest comparable CPU from intel is the i7 970, at $880. Now 300% of 230 is 690. So that's actually MORE than 300%. If you compare Intel CPUs to AMD with the same or similar specs, the results are clear. If you take two different 6 core procs, clocked at exactly the same speed, there is no way the actual performance increase can be quantified at $650. No amount of "hyperthreading" is worth $650.
@afinewaytodie You're comparing based on cores which isn't right, Intel's 6 Core chips are architecturally better clock for clock in multi-threaded apps because of the inclusion of HT and overall better design of the core, you have to compare the performance range, just because both chips have 6 cores doesn't mean they're the same. You're getting a significant increase in performance (most of the time) vs the AMD's X6 chips due to the better design, so the price is justified.
@dchains I'm not saying that they're both the same at all. But here's another scenario: i7 960 at $580 which is more than 200% more than the 1090t. I'm not saying intel procs are worthless, but they're prices are ridiculous. As long as you're building a rig predominately for gaming, you should be running an AMD CPU. If you're building a number cruncher, or a workstation, or maybe just an envy build, you should run Intel. There is no reason to put an Intel CPU in a gaming rig.
@dchains Your obsession with HT and multi-threaded apps is absurd...The only programs on the market today that use multi-threading are encoders and professional grade Video, Photo, Audio, and 3D design suites. That being said 98% of users will NEVER need HT. Most programs aren't even written to utilize quad core let alone HT+quad core.
@JPCreativePro That's not an obsession, those are called facts. Plus my entire point wasn't only based on HT.
Also, software as a whole is moving more and more toward multi-threading, yes this includes gaming, so HT does/will play a big part. AMD is actually developing their own HT tech from what i have heard, so it does play a big part in overall execution with future and even current software.
@dchains I understand technology is moving to multi threading I never said It wasn't or that HT is bad I'm just saying that its been 4 years since release of quad core and they still haven't gone mainstream or fully implemented into software, 6 cores won't be implemented for another 5 years and 6 core plus HT wont be mainstream for longer yet. Point is these processors are blazing fast but no one can maximize their power. CPU's are ~10 years ahead of software at this point in time.
@JPCreativePro I agree with that, i think that currently CPU's are to the point where the mainstream doesn't need much better, an average computer user isn't going to utilize 12, 8 or even 6 cores fully. Software is also still at the point where it's not taking advantage of the tons of cores being slapped into our CPU's, so throwing more into a chip is useless for the majority of software right now.
@JPCreativePro While you're obviously going on about the consumer market, you may want to go check out the Sun SPARC CPU's (well, not Oracle). Those things have 64 threads per chip on some models, yet run at fairly modest clock speeds yet they absolutely obliterate the code they push through them because the software written for them is fully multi-threaded. The more threads you throw at it the faster it'll go and keep using every one it can find. This is becoming true with consumer apps too.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm guessing corsair payed for this . Also 4 cores vs 6 core isn't a fair test even though price wise they are similar it's like comparing a ferrari to a vw golf with NOS
@SamBrears It's a fair test 100%. Notice that the Core i7 actually wins some multithreaded benchmarks.
It all comes down to "bang for the buck" with CPUs. If the price and positioning of the product is the same, they are fair game for "head to head" comparisons.
@IsSadistic But hyperthreading doesn't always equal the same power as cores. It's more of a small performance boost, plus some extra bragging numbers.
@SamBrears your a complete and utter idiot, testing even a 1 core vs a 200 core is a fair test so long as they are the same price (i know exaggeration but im trying to get my point across)
no one will need a 6core for maybe 10 years...software is years and years behind the power of pc's because its smarter to make a program that most ppl can run then ppl who bought a pc in the past few years. that being said nothing wrong with having a ton of power you wont need...power is just cool :D cars go like a 150mph in the states yet how often do you go that fast? more power!
@MrMexicanZombie If you code something that's (TRUE) multi-threaded now, you'll only stand to gain as time goes by. Your software will scale almost infinitely if coded properly from the start as we start to see more and more cores and threads in consumer CPU's. Much the same way that coding in 64bit is the only way to go these days, so it can address more memory that systems will come with in the future.
@NICXcom Hi linus it would be nice if wrote the numbers about score and such on the video, it is quite hard to understand the difference between numbers when you are a foreign.

in other words, AMD sells 6 core processors at a similar price that don't actually perform any better than the Intel core i7 quad-cores...
So I guess what they say is true, you get what you pay for.

An Intel i7 950@ 3.06GHz with MB can use large broadband tri-channel memory" ' AMD can not. price is $280.00 to my door.
mikethemoneymaker 1 year ago
@mikethemoneymaker Also I realize these systems are really set up for gaming but doing a fair full comparison would also include business and networking applications. I dare this AMD system of six cores to keep up with the 4 core i7 950 system matched with proper mother board, ram...I bet it cant be done when optimized equally. Having said this I own several AMD X4 970 O.C.machines at home that kick butt , were very cost effective build compared to Intel. They are almost like running a server

For the record, a 4 core vs. a 6 core isn't always the best straight up comparison as the clock speeds tend to be faster the fewer cores you have. I'd rather see a Phenom II x4 go up against that Intel crap.
vh2k 1 year ago
@vh2k lol intel crap? that 6 core only can compete with the 920, and atm for an extra 50-70 you can get a 950 which blows the phenom II x6. if it has the same price point it can be compared.
B1ACKROSEZ 1 year ago
@B1ACKROSEZ The i7 950 has 1 MB of L2 cache, 8 MB of L3 cache and a 3.06 GHZ clock speed compared to the x4 970 which has 2 MB of L2 cache, 6 MB of L3 cache and a 3.50 GHZ clock speed. Oh, and the x4 has an unlocked multiplier. :)
vh2k 1 year ago
The was i see it as of now intel has better performing cpus but of course they are more expensive than AMD. But that doesn't mean AMD cant do same if you remember the p4 days. AMD wasn't always price/performance, they just have been with the phenoms. Which is why i dont believe in loyalty over pieces of circuitry like you fags do, both companies have made better performing cpus than the other. So I take what is best for me at the time.
DXcellence718 1 year ago
LOL why dont you fanboys put aside your stupidity for once.I really dont understand why Im seeing comments like "oh linus your comparing a 4 core to a six core" They are in the similar price range and they perform about the same this is a fair comparison(and yes i own an i7 860)
AMD six core cpu is very attractive(i just dont like the 1100t cause it seems pointless compared to the 1090) i might had gone for one if i didnt build my rig around feburary 2010

@asddsaaassddd i have a 470 and even i admit the 6870 is an overall better card. trades blows in performance depending on game, runs cooler, quieter, uses alot less power, newer, has MLAA,and will only get better with age. Nvidia had to drop the price 100$ on the 470 also they werent even in the same catagory. i got my 470 for super cheap at 180$ thanks to the 6870.

icguilty 1 year ago
@icguilty HyperThreading is seen as something of a joke in the truly high performance CPU industry, like those created by Oracle and IBM which run on RISC architecture. Those CPU's have been running multi-threaded for years before Intel showed up with anything that did anything remotely similar. Many super high end workstation and super computer CPU's have as many as 64 threads per core, which when used with properly coded software has OUTSTANDING performance.

Would a Phenom II x4 processor at the same frequency as the 1100t outperform it in most games?
nobodypersonsomeone 1 year ago
@nobodypersonsomeone If the game is multi-threaded then you'll see a performance increase clock for clock with the X6. Software is moving towards multi-threading at a decent rate, so the 1100T would last much longer in that regard with the extra cores.
dchains 1 year ago
This whole "intel i7 hyperthreading = 8 cores" is purely market gimmickry. The fact of the matter is that yes, Intel CPUs put up better numbers than comparable AMD CPUs, but the difference at most is maybe 10%, and that's being generous. If you buy Intel, your still paying 300% more in most cases; not to say that Intel is "bad", just saying that the increases you see with Intel are almost negligible, especially compared to the price:performance ratio of AMD CPUs.
afinewaytodie 1 year ago 2
@afinewaytodie I should also include that I build PCs PRIMARILY for gaming. I'm not a video rendering kind of person, I pretty much just browse the interwebz, do some basic school work, and game. That being said, AMD makes more sense from my perspective. If I was going to do a lot of video editing and CPU intensive labor, Intel is still the obvious choice. Although, if I was going to be doing a lot of video rendering I might just get a mac, or at least a hackintosh,
afinewaytodie 1 year ago
@afinewaytodie You're wrong on so many levels...
dchains 1 year ago
@dchains Well, and your an Intel fanboy, so let's call it even.
afinewaytodie 1 year ago
@afinewaytodie I'm not a fanboy at all, i do think that AMD has a great price for performance ratio but you're wrong on so many aspects on both CPU devolpment and pricing. Do some more research, look up and compare prices, and then come back with a concrete argument based on actual facts and not in correct BS such as ''but the difference is at most 10%'', there are so many factors that would determine such a percentage.
dchains 1 year ago 18
@dchains Um, well, ok. Here's a scenario: the 1090T costs $230 on newegg.com, the closest comparable CPU from intel is the i7 970, at $880. Now 300% of 230 is 690. So that's actually MORE than 300%. If you compare Intel CPUs to AMD with the same or similar specs, the results are clear. If you take two different 6 core procs, clocked at exactly the same speed, there is no way the actual performance increase can be quantified at $650. No amount of "hyperthreading" is worth $650.
afinewaytodie 1 year ago
@afinewaytodie You're comparing based on cores which isn't right, Intel's 6 Core chips are architecturally better clock for clock in multi-threaded apps because of the inclusion of HT and overall better design of the core, you have to compare the performance range, just because both chips have 6 cores doesn't mean they're the same. You're getting a significant increase in performance (most of the time) vs the AMD's X6 chips due to the better design, so the price is justified.
dchains 1 year ago
@dchains I'm not saying that they're both the same at all. But here's another scenario: i7 960 at $580 which is more than 200% more than the 1090t. I'm not saying intel procs are worthless, but they're prices are ridiculous. As long as you're building a rig predominately for gaming, you should be running an AMD CPU. If you're building a number cruncher, or a workstation, or maybe just an envy build, you should run Intel. There is no reason to put an Intel CPU in a gaming rig.
afinewaytodie 1 year ago
@dchains Unless you are dying to put Nvidia in your rig.
afinewaytodie 1 year ago
@dchains Your obsession with HT and multi-threaded apps is absurd...The only programs on the market today that use multi-threading are encoders and professional grade Video, Photo, Audio, and 3D design suites. That being said 98% of users will NEVER need HT. Most programs aren't even written to utilize quad core let alone HT+quad core.
JPCreativePro 1 year ago
@JPCreativePro That's not an obsession, those are called facts. Plus my entire point wasn't only based on HT.
Also, software as a whole is moving more and more toward multi-threading, yes this includes gaming, so HT does/will play a big part. AMD is actually developing their own HT tech from what i have heard, so it does play a big part in overall execution with future and even current software.
dchains 1 year ago
@dchains I understand technology is moving to multi threading I never said It wasn't or that HT is bad I'm just saying that its been 4 years since release of quad core and they still haven't gone mainstream or fully implemented into software, 6 cores won't be implemented for another 5 years and 6 core plus HT wont be mainstream for longer yet. Point is these processors are blazing fast but no one can maximize their power. CPU's are ~10 years ahead of software at this point in time.
JPCreativePro 1 year ago
@JPCreativePro I agree with that, i think that currently CPU's are to the point where the mainstream doesn't need much better, an average computer user isn't going to utilize 12, 8 or even 6 cores fully. Software is also still at the point where it's not taking advantage of the tons of cores being slapped into our CPU's, so throwing more into a chip is useless for the majority of software right now.
dchains 1 year ago
@JPCreativePro While you're obviously going on about the consumer market, you may want to go check out the Sun SPARC CPU's (well, not Oracle). Those things have 64 threads per chip on some models, yet run at fairly modest clock speeds yet they absolutely obliterate the code they push through them because the software written for them is fully multi-threaded. The more threads you throw at it the faster it'll go and keep using every one it can find. This is becoming true with consumer apps too.

@SamBrears It's a fair test 100%. Notice that the Core i7 actually wins some multithreaded benchmarks.

MrMexicanZombie 1 year ago
@MrMexicanZombie If you code something that's (TRUE) multi-threaded now, you'll only stand to gain as time goes by. Your software will scale almost infinitely if coded properly from the start as we start to see more and more cores and threads in consumer CPU's. Much the same way that coding in 64bit is the only way to go these days, so it can address more memory that systems will come with in the future.
