I am going to see Jay And The Americans & The Buckinghams at La Porte County Fair La Porte Indiana on July 23. And again on Veterans Day Nov 11 , Jay And The Americans & The Association at Veterans Memorial Auditorium Columbus Ohio.
They are pretenders living off the success of the fantastic lead voice of Jay Black.3 may be originals but anyone can sing back up,the lead voice is what drives the group.

Jay Reinecke is the current Jay in Jay And The Americans. He does a wonderful job in the group. If you like Black, go see his solo act and enjoy him. The only The Pretenders I know are a group too and sing "Brass In Pocket".
@rocmaven I put it this way if you replaced Dianna Ross as lead singer of The Supremes with someone who did a good job it still doesn't make them The Supremes,they call them TRIBUTE BANDS.I'm sure they put on a good show of someone elses success like the TRIBUTE BANDS who cover ABBA etc,if you see where I'm coming from.

They are all doing very well aspecially Journey who are selling out arenas (they have their 5th singer now). They are not called tribute bands. All these groups own their names and have original members in the band.

I want back some (okay, all) of the music I loved and lost. Jay Black has the history, the reputation, the sound, THE VOICE! I have nothing against the first and third, but when I need the comfort of memories, I want real! The depth is only found there.

We all like David Blatt (Jay Black). But, he is not in Jay And The Americans any more. The group split up in 1971. Yes the group. And they have reformed with 3 original founding members, Marty Sanders, Howie Kane & Sandy Deanne. Now they have a new Jay, Jay III- Jay Renecke and he is fantastic. You should go see them perform for yourself and you might love them.
