Did anybody see her almost fall right off her chair? Was she drunk? She didn't even say "thank you" to Dick. When she does interviews, she always seems so defensive. It's not very appealing.
This is the first video I have seen that Lucy talks about her ancestry, and mentioned their start in New England. If you are interested, see more at thenewenglandballproject website.
It's interesting to note that Lucille Ball starts out this interview guarded, aloof and a bit rude to Dick, but by the end she seems more open and willing to share her life.
I guess Dick Cavett had that affect on people he interviewed, such a relaxed atmosphere and pace for conversation, you couldn't possibly dislike him.
Comedic actresses never made the bar(i.e. American Film Institute), the serious actresses(Hepburn, Davis, Garbo) were considered the best. Folks, THIS WOMAN transcends even them; my children don't know who Bette Davis is, but they sure as hell know who Lucille Ball is, and future generations will know; THAT'S A LEGACY! So put Lucy right at the top of the best!
@kaidosbuddy yes to this day the I Love Lucy show reruns NEVER get old. I've watched many of them I'd say a hundred times at least and that folks is proof of her talent as a comedian.
she just seems really uncomfortable here- constantly shifting in her chair, looking away from Cavett, very distracted.

I've never seen Lucille being so bitchy. Had she been drinking?

@wiguy3 I don't think she's bitchy here. Just matter of fact and wry.

@funlover2283 I had the impression he must have said something that rubbed her the wrong way in the beginning of the cut off segment.

What film are they talking about in the beginning? Thanks so much for uploading!

@indigoDroog Roman Scandals. They played a clip of her in that movie in the beginning. I believe it was the first move she was ever in.
