@100Lavender So, if you're overweight, you can't be pretty? You have to pretend? I understand that being overweight is unhealthy, but that doesn't make a person ugly.
Not every person who is large, round, cubical, whathaveyou, is that way because they are "unhealthy". Some people eat well, exercise, and are still bigger than most people. Some people are quite thin, don't exercise, eat terribly and then die of a heart attack at age 33.
@100Lavender The "human nature" that you are referring to is of the conditioned mind, which is deeply flawed and egocentric. Our true nature is compassionate and non-violent.
This is part of what's wrong with America. We have a 'beauty' padgent that endorses the sedentary/poor diet/lack of exercise life style. If she's representative of the 'normal' women of America then these normal women need to get themselves to a gym. The men too.
@Tallwhitemocha I'd rather her than a twig that's liable to break in half at a sneeze and pukes because she has such a poor self-esteem she thinks eating a piece of bread will make her ugly in everyone else's eyes.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder--and it's easier to behold such beauty when, again, they're comfortable with their head isn't ducked beside the toilet forcing themselves to barf their breakfast back up for fear it might make them an ounce or two more human and less "perfect."
I wasn't talking about a "perfect" woman, as you put it, or the unhealthy lifestyles of bulimics or stick-thin model wannabes. I was commenting on how this women and the padgent she was promoting glorify unhealthy (overweight), women and their lifestyles. A lifestyle that is just as unhealthy as bulimia and far more costly to the health care system. You can be a big women and still be fit and healthy- Jennifer Hudson, Serena and Venus Williams, etc.
Noiw, as far as the idea of "normal" being a ridiculous construct if everyone's supposed to be special, I'd agree that's stupid. And if the idea that "everybody's special" sounds stupid to you--good, does to me as well.
But this isn't "Pageant for the Plus-Sizes," it's "Pageant For Normal People Who Aren't Supermodels."
She didn't say you had to weigh a certain amouint to be in, or be sedentary...or any of what you accuse.
@obiwanobiwan13 i think he means normal women dont eat a shit ton of food everyday then pretend they are pretty, the normal woman says : hey, im pretty but im also fat i think its time to stop being so porky" and the average woman dont just keep getting bigger then enter a beauty pagaent to fool themselves into thinking they are perfect... you're always less perfect than you think you are. + sterotyping skinny people, saying they have low-selfesteem and must be belimic, no. they just dont pigout
@Tallwhitemocha We ought not have beauty pagents at all, frankly. Obesity is a problem, yes; but I think our consumer driven superficiliaty and lack of cultural depth is worse, as well as our lack of progress in moving towards genuine equality between genders, races etc. Maybe you're missing the point- maybe the pagent is a 'fuck you' to a pagent industry and judges on a variety of merits that have nothing to do with how you look in a swimsuit.
