  • Beauty truck man, love the high idle mod, gonna do it on my 96 silverado 1500 soon, ill be using your thread. thanks for the write up!!

  • I have the just the 1070 rpm switch connected in my truck and it makes a big difference in winter

  • I got a 93 camaro and it idles high..not a good thing to me..why would you want this switch?

  • @playa220022 because diesels produce little heat at idle, so increasing the speed speeds up the warming process. its never good to work a cold diesel hard. if nothing else it will result in horrible mileage

  • Invest in a webasto coolant heater i have one in my semi and my 6.5 on a 120 min timer warms up the engine just about to operating temp

  • where are hooking those switches up at . i got a 96 and id like to do same thanks

  • How or where did the truck come from with thr Kph?

  • @Hotrodnickell It's because it was built as a Canadian vehicle........ Came from the michigan plant.

  • Very cool!

  • I love the sound of a diesel motor!

  • ive never seen a truck speedometer go up to 180

  • @tskaggs8 thats in km mph

  • @tskaggs8 its km/h

  • beautiful sound for a diesel

  • Awesome idea man, looks and works like a champ, ajax eh? imm in pickering, small world! Great job on it!

  • what do the high idle switches do?

  • Whers the Tutorial on this?!

And it seems like a good idea (being i live in Canda) the cold winters, this would really help!

  • You have any idea on how to put in an onboard air compressor for the 6.5? I have been wanting to do it for a while and already have dual alternators.

  • I have no idea, and I couldn't begin to tell ya. Sorry.

  • Well how bout to hook up a high idler, I have on installed on my truck but disconnected....

  • is this possible for a gasoline???

  • I couldn't tell ya. Fuel rate is injected eletronically by the ECU on the 6.5, so by grounding out 1 of 2 or both terminals the switches are hooked to, changes the fuel delivery rate, and on a diesel more fuel = higher rpm

  • I haven't had a 6.5 YET, but I'm thinking about maybe buying one because they are a little bit cheaper to work on. If I buy a 6.5 and take it to college, I more than likely won't be able to plug it in during the winter, so I was wondering how yours starts in the winter? I obviously need good plugs and batteries, but will it start if its 10 below and its not plugged in? Thanks for the help!

  • If you have good glowplugs, and good compression it'll start no problem.

I don't always plug mine in, and it always started. And I live in Canada, so it gets pretty cold.

Below -40*C I'd have it plugged in though, it helps keep the oil and engine warm too

  • Ok. Thanks!

  • Was it a very hard thing to do? I'd imagine with a little technical know-how, it's not too difficult.

  • Hardest part would be pulling the ECU, and even then, not to bad.

If you can read directions, and fallow pics, you'll be ok. I did a write up on this on the fourm I'm a member of.

  • Which Forum is it?

  • The Diesel Place

  • Do you have a link to it?

  • I added it to the video description.

  • Thanks!!! I Appreciate It, Man!!

  • I use the 1070 rpm idle all the time, from quick warm ups to leavin it running when I run into the store or I leave the truck and it's still running.

I haven't had a REAL use for the 1360 rpm, but we used 1600rpm hi idle to boost my buddies 6.5 when his batts got low from cranking a lot because of bad glows.

His truck fired RIGHT up, so I know it made a difference in hi-idle boosting, compared to regular idle boosting.

  • yes it does serve a purpose it helps warm them up faster when its cold

  • i have a 6.5 suburban...

for what I'd wish to have high idle ?

    what is the purpose ...

    just asking

    nice truck

  • warmin it up faster.

  • This is very cool! does it serve a point or is it just there for kicks?

  • warming it up faster

  • It warms the engine faster, but also because diesel engines start to burn oil if they are left idleing at too low of an RPM.

  • That, and at normal idle, for an extended period of time, the load on the rods and crank, the oil doesn't have enough pressure to keep the bearings from touching, and you get irregular wear from excessive low rpm (like a 600 rpm idle), and that is with any engine, not just a diesel.

Doesn't work in gear, so PTO is a no go, but any engine driven acessories (Alty, A/C compressor, air compressor if you have one) will work better with a hi-idle

  • v nice.

  • very cool! , hope you get my message and get back to me, this will be on my truck if you can help me out, good job!!!

  • Did you do that wiring all yourself?

  • Yep, wasn't all that hard to do.

  • a voice! i'll be damned. she's a rattler when cold huh? you check engine light is an actual engine. mine says "service engine soon" like i wouldn't understand a picture of an engine? lol. you WTS is in a different spot too. mine is "above" the tach. nice. mine doesn't rattle like that for a cold start, maybe i need to adjust the IP timing since the HP4 install?

  • correction. my truck does rattle like that when i don't plug it in, which is almost never. lol.

  • Yea, I don't have it plugged in now that it's "warmer" most of the winter it wasn't plugged in.
