Very helpful, exactly the information I needed. In fact I need to attach ferrules to a piece of copper tubing for a steam engine. Even the bit about not trying to silver solder over soft solder helped keep me from wasting time - I had tried to use a 60/40 Sn/Pb solder first, and it leaked under pressure, but I had hoped the silver solder might "mix" to avoid starting over.
