  • "we're going to need another crane..."

  • is it not supposed to do that?

  • Maybe I am not getting it because of the angle or something....What exactly is the point of hitching the crane to trunk BEFORE it is cut down? Is it just to save a few minutes hitching up the crane cause it is harder after the trunk is on the ground? Or is there some other reason for doing it that way? Seems kinda stupid if you don't know how much the trunk weighs and just suddenly throw that weight on the crane.

When the trunk is cut, all that potential energy turns into kinetic energy.

  • @mugwump666 it could of been a big downhill slope or it could of been something of value under the tree that needed to be protected . To be honest with u , i dont get it either.

  • @mugwump666 IN my experience as a tree surgeon back in the 80's and 90's, the crane is used to stop the timber falling in the first place. Often you can't drop the tree. It might be in a confined space, or on a big slope. Buildings might be in the way. The crane 'usually' grabs the bit of tree and hoists it out of the way. In this case it looks like it was over stretched.

  • @JakeAnnetts I guess that makes sense. But there is no way to tell how big a chunk to cut at a time, right, how much it will weigh? So the moral of the story is that they should have cut the tree into smaller pieces?

  • Во бля дебилы- с поленом ебанулись...

  • cut smaller sections at a time when out over the side like this, if you cant work off the back.

  • @bulletman100 smaller sections is what i was thinking. Whatever the capacity of your equipment is just divide by 10 and you probably wont be on the news tonite

  • i have been in crane rental a long time and have been in these spots before. i think he did it right with the set up, put out the outriggers on the side he was picking from and not the other which is why he didnt have counterweights on.if he was goin off the right chart he wouldnt have had a problem. speedcrane3 has it right take a small piece and figure out what it weighs per ft. and do the math.

  • Minek a daru??? Egy jó mászó kivágta volna simán! IDIOTA!!

  • HAHAHAA THE CRANE TOPPLED OVER :D

  • You guys can leave your junk comments !!! But that's a bad thing that happened To the climber and operator!! Wow man I love manual riggin n ropin !! Cheers to all the old skool climbers that were gettin it done without the crane!! Yeeehaaaa!!!!

  • @Origional79s my thoughts exactly. All the time setting up,and all the expensive investments not to mention insurance and on and on. We are born with 650 muscles and afraid to use them. i dont get it.

  • Ive done this type of work for .... well .... over 25years....i drive the crane and i say what size of branch im prepared to handle on EVERY LIFT.....start nearest to you and get an idea of the weight of the wood....don,t get over ambitious. Aim to take about half your max load...REMEMBER.....if the branch flips you will get a shock load[this is where a good climber/cutter makes all the difference]...

  • The 'operator' should never be allowed to set foot in a crane ever again after that idiotic episode.

  • Fail crane

  • wow that sucks...hope everyone was ok.

  • try going off the back instead of the side fuckin idiots

  • Comment removed

  • Is that why they require $1,000,000 liability insurance to rent one?

  • two words operator error

  • wow im a climber and used lots of cranes i think i just shit my self lol

  • litle bit dum actual first thing weight te lift than put dubble counterweights and if that isnt good put the froond side towarts lift so the outriggers are replaced by the long frond side my uncle is an operator and he has never had thinks like this because of whay i just said

well lets hope thinks like this stay whit no inguries

  • If you don't have enough counterweight lift a smaller load .I can't understand why do they let idiots operate expensive machinery.

  • first he has no jib out, its stored, it doesnt look like hes fully extended or the top sheave would be exposed, hes double lined with a block deadheaded back to the head so hes planning on a heavy pick. who knows if his outriggers failed, the load dynamics, it mightv stabalize him to boom up and bring the load close. twice as slow of lifting speed if double lined. tree surgeon in eugene, and we also own and opperate a crane service. cheers.

  • Funny noises

  • Comment removed

  • simple, too much jib out bad set up and bad driver you pay peanuts you get monkeys

  • Tree 1, idiot crane operator 0

  • Don´t worry, the tree will grow back again

  • Well two things happened here. .

1 - The climber gave too much for the crane to handle.

2 - He was working from the side, instead of from the rear.

You never work from the side, that's just common sense.

That crane could have easily handled that load if he was working from the rear.

  • operator kept trying to boom up instead of just letting the winchline out quickly .

  • Should have played with playmobil instead!

  • i know wot happened im a tree climber of 5 years and nearly always working with cranes and other lowering eq etc the crane operator didn't have this stabilizers out far enough or he extened the boom arm to much or not enough weight to keep tiping at bay!

  • Q: how did they get it back up?

    A: with another crane.

  • Ups!

  • It's ok. It was a rental.

  • don't with the trees!!

  • I dont know for sure but I think the crane needs to be secure first, didnt look like it had a solid ...probably in a hurry

  • Stuipd cranes. I knew the thing was going to tip as soon as I saw it. How can people be so dumb? Gravity pulls stuff down. I don't care if u have a crane, it is going to go down!!!!

  • smoko time

  • try extending the outriggers and putting them down , or how about working over the rear - was the climber killed?

I'm an owner operator, education is a wonderful thing

  • climber and operator survived.

operator was fined by the HSE for failure to attach counter weights among other things

  • @powertrp ok so you either didnt watch the whole thing or no nothing about cranes.he was set up on a road and wouldnt have been able to pick off the rear. he stuck out the outriggers on the side he was picking from. most cranes have a 360 chart so picking over the rear wouldnt do anything . next time you are near a crane look at were the centerpin is and you will see it closer to the rear outriggers. which is why newer cranes dont have better charts over the rear. it is leverage.

  • W.T.F

  • I'd like to think some woodlice are more intelligent than others.

  • wow aybe you coulda used that crane to get someone up ther with saw

  • oops!bit heavier than he thought... some learn the hard way!

  • camera angle fail

  • Someone got fired

  • someone hadda warsh they undipants, fo sho! LOL!

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • looked like no outriggers or soft ground ? scary shit for all concerned!

  • overload alarm......what overload alarm errr what a loser operator

  • ah DUH..LET me over extend my boom and pick up a tree thats too heavy..machine 0 tree 1

  • You cant blame the driver. If you hired the crane, its your fault. Unless you specifically ask for a contract lift (and that definately was'nt) the responsibility lies directly with the hirer.

Having done 18 years of crane assisted fells, that was directly the fault of the climber. Its his choice how big a piece he takes. NEVER trust the driver's judgement.

  • well thats funny since the climber, who i know, got fully compensated and the crane company had the bill for the damage that was caused.

  • NEVER TRUST THE DRIVERS JUDGEMENT???? It's the crane operators responsibility to take a piece that he can handle regardless of what the climber wants to take.I have had climbers try to give me pieces that would have flipped me over.If the operator cant properly estimate the weight the piece he is taken find another operator. If the climber wants a larger piece than the operator says he can handle get a larger crane.

  • thorsham, Youve been LUCKY for 18 years! EVERYTHING involving a crane IS SOLELY THE OPERATORS RESPONSIBILITY! Its his RESPONSIBILITY to KNOW or ACCURATELY ESTIMATE the WEIGHT of ANYTHING he picks how far he can BOOM OUT how the crane is set up WHERE its SET UP on RUBBER or OUTRIGGERS how many times the line is parted EVERYTHING. Its the OPERATORS RESPONSIBILITY to know the CRANES LIMITS & to NEVER EXCEED THEM! C.I.A Crane Institute of America, GET AN EDUCATION BEFORE YOU KILL SOMEONE FOOL.

  • Really. Lucky for 18 years? I dont think so. Now let me see - this accident happened in the UK, where we have a heavily legislated health and safety conscious industry were we might have 1 or 2 deaths a year.

You are from America, where you have a culture of stupidity, loose hundreds of operatives every year through complete lack of any training, and have the intelligence of a woodlouse. CIA? whats that, some excuse for sounding important? I hold and certs from NPTC, RFS, AA, CPA, CITB, CSCS.

  • You should of paid attention while obtaining any one of your claimed 6 certifications. If you had there wouldn't be ANY DOUBT in that empty vessel on top of your shoulders as to who's fault it was when this crane flopped over! ITS THE OPERATORS RESPONSIBILITY period! Now if the rigger or slinger did something he was told not to do and the operator couldn't see the load or what his ground-men were doing that's a different story and those are the ONLY EXCEPTIONS besides STRUCTURAL FAILURE!!!

  • Just skip everything I said and don't bother responding. I just looked at your profile page. YOUR AN URBIN LUMBERJACK you trim & cut trees down. Stick to what you know because you sure in the hell don't know dick about cranes.

  • Yep, I used to work on a picker truck and agree. The only reason this wouldn't be operator/slinger error is if there was an earthquake, a nearby nuclear blast or if an escaped gorrila high on PCP ran out of the woods, over-powered the operator and started pulling on all the control levers.

  • outriggers not down

  • yup he made the worst mistake i always put the outriggers first

  • yeah this idiot was just asking for this to happen

  • it was in corris nr machynlleth

  • Won't need to remind me never to call that crane company for a removal.....

  • Once the tree was lopped it swung outside the safe operating radius of the crane causing it to topple over. Also was the pig stying of the bearers appropriate for the ground it was set up on. Finally possibly the weight of the lopped tree was mis appropriated.

  • looks like someone didnt read there charts !! not a machine failure an operator failur

  • I agree. I hate those damn tree jobs.

  • was the log just too heavy, or was poor operation to blame? Im glad i use a top notch crane driver...

    that was freaky1

  • not a very good idea

  • the only thing they did do right was to put the outriggers down

  • You havent got a clue, i know the guy it happened to and it was the crane company fault for hiring the driver who has had NO experience with sectional dismantaling, the crane was well beyond its reach!!

  • How much damage to the crane?, is that it driving away?

  • Interesting. When and where was this? The countryside looks welsh...

  • yes its machynleth west wales

  • sounds like a sqeaking bed LOL
