  • They should have done the renos after the tear so they would have had the roof for the olympics

  • I'm a little surprised it didn't tear sooner. How long do people expect a piece of cloth to last? It is 24 yrs old and over the past 2.5 months it has been subjected to 12 storms- some so severe that over 3000 trees have been lost in the City of Vancouver & UBC alone. They deflated it on purpose to avoid further tearing, no one inside was hurt. Winds gusted to 116km/h the following night too.

  • special heating system wasn't turned on. and its not just "a bit of cloth", it was manufactured with a 20 year guarantee i believe.

  • Yes, it is now year 24. They are now saying it was over-inflation that caused the weak spot to tear. BTW this is far from normal weather here, the wind hasn't caused this much damage in the city since 1964.

  • nothing was happing at BC place at the time... and no one was hurt.

  • ok so was there anyone inside when it happened? Was anybody hurt? (I hope not, but the report didn't say)

  • Obviously not- this is in Canada.

  • Wanna bet some maintenance worker gets fired and the pennypincher responsible for the "no heat" decision gets a promotion?

  • sad but true

  • funnily enough, that happens a lot in the US.

    in fact.........too much. hhmmmmmm.....

  • somewhere out there a monster truck fan is weeping. i weep with you

  • Somewhere out there, is a manager who is patting himself on the back for all the money he "saved" by not turning the heat on.

  • you are so right
