  • The only thing I made when I was a kid was a hole in the ground... Q_Q

  • Did you know the best way to make the copper surface shine? All you have to do is not scrubbing with steel wools, but put it in the dish filled with the "soy source". We Japanese learned this in elementary schools. You will feel awesome by seeing the beautiful result!

  • Ha ha h she's the oppositeof me...she makes...I used to take apart lmao.

  • awesome

  • good video but i felt like it was a bit rushed. i actually know already how to etch a circuit board and i still had trouble following along with this video.

  • This what i call a.........VIDEO!!! :)

  • That is bloody excellent - I've been looking for a way to make preamp and amplifier face plates. Copper and Letraset plus lacquer is expensive, looks rubbish and you're limited to what fonts you can get. This open the lid on creativity! Many thanks! :o)

  • This is the next Kari Byron from mythbusters!!!

  • she's using soo many dangerous materials. lol..

  • SSAMMS - best thing on makemagazine.

  • 3:47 QR code scanner

  • This kid wins at everything.

  • This is one of the few segments on this channel where something is actually made, so okay!

  • Well, this takes the fear out of doing this. It's good to see an example.

  • Very well made video, I have learnt something new this morning, cool stuff.

    Thom in Scotland.

  • I don't think this was mentioned in the video, but if you're making a circuit board (PCB), make sure your image is reversed from how you want it to appear from the copper side. In other words, make your copper layer as through you're looking at it from the component side. If your traces and pads end up in the wrong orientation, your ICs won't install correctly and you could even damage some components. Also, a laminator works MUCH better than an iron, if you can afford one.

  • WOW! am amazed!

  • OMG, she is SO adorable.

  • Cute!

  • Holy crap, if it wasn't for her I would have un-subbed long ago!

  • Collin and Sylvia are the only reasons I'm subscribed to Make Magazine.

  • My parents are on my back thinking I am making bombs.

  • a kid is teaching me how to make something... :|

  • She's gonna make it into the tech world!

  • this kids amazing

  • that's really cool!

  • My parents won't let me do that. They think it will make me explode and die or something

  • i came for kip kay but i stayed for her

  • This kid should be on the Discovery channel.

  • Oh my god, at 1:23 she's using Ubuntu... She's awesome ! lol

  • WILL SOMEONE GIVE ME A MAKER BOT? ...and a sylvia to run it..lol

  • This girl certainly knows her stuff. I didn't know how to etch a circuit board until I was 13 in high school. We used photo sensitive board there and a developer but this is essentially the same. I knew of some special iron on acetate that you could use but I didn't realise you could use normal acetate too :) Will have to try this :)

  • yay! a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference! :D

  • Bee scientific :P

  • Dissimilar metals corrosion! You should use a scotch bright instead of steel wool...

  • awesome! i always wondered how to do that

  • im 19 n i wouldnt even know where to get sum of the things needed

  • Future MIT graduate above

  • Try nitric acid!

  • hi silvia i like ur show, greetings from guadalajara mexico, please tell me wich software did you use for designing this PCB layout? i like it, really awesome show, my kids love it....

  • Very Impressive stuff! I also like the video quality- not shaky-handheld like most Youtube video.

  • You need to wear a respirator of at least a dust filter when you are cutting the copper with a dremel. I have read that the dust causes all kinds of bad stuff to happen to your lungs.

  • Excellent mini show as always! keep it up!

  • Interesting, Do you think Make Mag could spend some time researching the newly introduced Vinegar, peroxide, and salt etching method? The solution/method seems hard to perfect on your own.

  • you should get yourself a respiratory protection

  • thanks, now I've got a project to do with my nephews this weekend

  • WTF! THIS IS AWSOME BUT TO BAD I DONT HAVE ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT

  • This show always inspires me to make somethin'

  • Really, REALLY awesome

  • What cad software was that?

  • thumps up for ubuntu 11.04 ;)

  • the pendant was awesome :D

  • Excellent video! If you warm the ferric chloride to around 52C in a water bath and brush with a sponge, the etching process will go much faster.

  • Im 42 A N D a ESL teacher and still think this show Rocks !

  • wow... super simple indeed...

now I just need to find some ferrochloride...

  • jesssus christ this kid is smart

  • kiddin me...my own cicruitboard?

  • SHE IS SMART

  • Thanks smart bot :D

  • I distinctively heard the words "SUPER simple"

  • That Ferric Chloride looks like Alodine which I use at work to prep airplanes for painting, I wonder if it's the same stuff

  • I always love Sylvia's show. They are simple and fun. I've seen other video on this subject, but this was explained way better. I also love the fact that she uses Linux.

  • Ferric Chloride is NASTY stuff that makes yellow stains on clothes, carpet and some kinds of tile that are pretty much impossible to remove. You should wear an apron (or at least some clothes that you don't care about).

Keep the bottle in a safe place where it absolutely positively cannot fall over and leak, and if you can, do like the electronics store does: put the bottle into a plastic bag or another container too.

    Great show, as usual!

  • i always did my circuit boards using permanent ink... but the toner part is neat...saddly i dont have tonner printer

  • that was usefull

  • Ferric Chloride can be made from fine steel wool and muriatic acid, no need to buy the expensive pre-made stuff.

  • She will winn a Nobels price one day,

  • Wow! You made it even simpler than Collin!

  • I'm not gonna lie.....this is pretty cool! Would make a good gift to a family member or something.

  • I'm not gonna lie.....this is pretty cool!

  • photo etching wors better for me

  • SWEET!!!!!!!!!

  • So who does the coppernbeing eaten away make a circuit board? Surely its still copper?

  • This girl for president!

  • collin's and your tutorial is petty easy

  • did anyone else try and find out what the QR code says at 1:24????

  • nananananana WEEEEEEEEEEEEEW XD

    Awesome !

  • What PCB layout program did u use in this video when doing the layout for the circuitboard.. ?

  • OMG why are she so smart???? McGuyvers Daughter?? lol :D

  • your howto is the best

  • collin and sylvia's howtos are easy

  • We need more Sylvia outtakes, that part at the end was great.

  • comment 8

  • awesome

  • 316

  • I'm 15 and I feel VERY stupid...

  • @mrRapkis im 18 and would feel stupid in a science class with her but i bet its her parents that tell her what to say so shes probably just a really good actor

  • right now i feel dumb

  • this girl is awesome i tried this a time ago and i failed D: xD

  • Yay Linux!

  • When I have a daughter, I wanted her to be as smart as you

  • i SOOOO WANNE TRY THIS

  • great video, would give you another like if i could, can't understand, why someone could dislike this...

  • Neat. I would love to do half of the things this kid can do.

  • awesome girl!
