@Howard0Hughes There is no comparison between LCA and JF-17. JF-17 Is fully operational and LCA is almost a Failed project. Many experts believe that JF-17/FC-1 is more in a competition with MiG-29 only it being a single engine & since IAF the only threat to Pakistan/PAF has large number of MiG-29s the JF-17 would fit right in the PAF. JF-17s can provide a greater defence against them aswell as take on MiG21, MiG-27, Jaguars etc (excluding Su-30MKI & may be Mirage2000H aswell).
@pafsbzkhan January 2009 ADA sought assistance from EADS to redesign the Tejas undercarriage and help reduce the weight of the fighter which is already 1.5 tons heavier than envisaged. Some of the other problems that ADA needs help with are fuel distribution, uneven braking, flight controls, environment controls and testing.ADA is still struggling with its engine although they have decided to use American F404-GE-IN20 but that needs to redesign the whole plan.

It's going to take another decade for this aircraft to become anything useful. From the latest reports, there is one part of software designing that Indian engineers are struggling with. Supposedly, it has something to do with the aircraft's manoeuvrability. US has refused to extend help in the matter for reasons understandable. Once that is configured, we should see something concrete. Other modifications and enhancements should come in thick and fast.

Al-Khalid is a complete locally developed Tank of Pakistan and it took less than 10 years from design to handing over the batches to the Pak Army. There are also other Tanks that were not completely Pak design like Al-Zarar, (T-52, I think), but was modernized with new state of the art upgrades. There are also many locally made Armored Personell Carriers, etc. Pakistani Heavy Mechanical complex in Texila manufactures them.

The Kaveri engin has some unique features, but it is over weight and under powered then stringent GSQR requirements.
LCA coming 500Kg heavier because added RAM (Radar Absorbing Material) coatings and extra avionics has not helped either. We will for now use GE404IN for the first 40

The LCA only took 5 years to develop (1990-1995), and its fly-by-wire system took 6 years (1992-1998). The aircraft was not flown for years because of American and British sanctions. The F404-GE-IN20 was available only in 2004 for the LSP-2! A.D.A. since then is only modifying the Tejas, not developing. The Americans took 20 years to develop the F-22’s engine. LCA’s performance is better than the early Gripen ‘C’ model and incomparably better than the Joint-Fuck JF-17. LCA MK-2 will be amazing.

LCA has some major problems as it seems now, the most important one being a lack of thrust, the testflights have only reached M1.2 and 4Gs, not exactly impressive for a multi-role fighter. The Indians don´t know which engine to fit in the LCA since their "indigenous" Kaveri-engine is years from working, if it will work at all. Jet-engine companies from both Russia and France have trying to fix it, but it seems to be at a dead end.Almost a Failed project like Arjun and Murat.

@Howard0Hughes There is no comparison between LCA and JF-17. JF-17 Is fully operational and LCA is almost a Failed project. Many experts believe that JF-17/FC-1 is more in a competition with MiG-29 only it being a single engine & since IAF the only threat to Pakistan/PAF has large number of MiG-29s the JF-17 would fit right in the PAF. JF-17s can provide a greater defence against them aswell as take on MiG21, MiG-27, Jaguars etc (excluding Su-30MKI & may be Mirage2000H aswell).

@pafsbzkhan January 2009 ADA sought assistance from EADS to redesign the Tejas undercarriage and help reduce the weight of the fighter which is already 1.5 tons heavier than envisaged. Some of the other problems that ADA needs help with are fuel distribution, uneven braking, flight controls, environment controls and testing.ADA is still struggling with its engine although they have decided to use American F404-GE-IN20 but that needs to redesign the whole plan.

For all the assistance provided by aerospace gaints--Dassault, BAE to Lockheed Martin, LCA still will be going back to drawing boards. India’s attempt at indigenous production of weapons has been a colossal failure the likes of which do not exist in the annals of military history. I wonder how long will it take for the LCA probably another decade?

As of right now Tejas is inferior to JF-17. The underbelly weight of Tejas limits its speed and ordnance carrying capacity. Small nose intakes limit its high speed manoeuvrability. Hal is trying to fix that problem but nobody knows how long its going to take. JF 17 has a higher air to ground capability. Above all JF-17 is a fully operational fighter jet where as LCA is still underdevelopment and failed in many essential tests. The biggest problem is its Engine.

It sounds nice, but is dead slow to dodge an incoming missile flying at speed of nearly Mach 4. The average speeds of other 4.5 generation aircraft are above Mach 2.2. So, if the aircraft runs out of ammunition during a combat, it has no way to escape.

1- LCA cant even pull more than 17 degrees AOA meaning it has a limited angle of attack JF-17 can pull the same amount as a F-16.
2- LCA isn't even for all weathers recently in an air show in India in 2009 LCA wasn't able to take off in rain.
3- Its too costly meaning its no longer a replacement for IAF’s flying coffins.
4- its been 27 years and india only have produced 6 prototypes (the longest aviation project in history).

1- LCA cant even pull more than 17 degrees AOA meaning it has a limited angle of attack JF-17 can pull the same amount as a F-16.
2- LCA isn't even for all weathers recently in an air show in India in 2009 LCA wasn't able to take off in rain.
3- Its too costly meaning its no longer a replacement for IAF’s flying coffins.
4- its been 27 years and india only have produced 6 prototypes (the longest aviation project in history).

Tejas is really rubbish, that is my opinion; it uses a American enginer, outdated Israel radar; it carry a few bullets; one Jf17 can carry 4 Tejas pay load; it took 20 +years to develop; I think, what is the points; better off buy a few second hands F16 or F18; just look at the air frame; Even a 5 years can do better.

It's going to take another decade for this aircraft to become anything useful. From the latest reports, there is one part of software designing that Indian engineers are struggling with. Supposedly, it has something to do with the aircraft's manoeuvrability. US has refused to extend help in the matter for reasons understandable. Once that is configured, we should see something concrete. Other modifications and enhancements should come in thick and fast.

it is just a technology demonstrator that has given india an opportunity to club into the elite club of nations manufacturing fighter jets. as far as its operations and service is concerned i doubt that it would bravely face an F-16 or any other fighter jet in that class. it cant be inducted as a true multi mission fighter jet as a Mig-29, Su-30 or a Jaguar Does it for us.

Russian jets are cheap made thats why they are cheaper compared with jets from USA, ENGLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY AND SWEDEN. Eurofighters are not long ranged and not carrier bound. India needs long range fighter jets and naval jets. FA18 super hornet is a good naval jet. Russia always bullies india into buying its inferior hardware.

Al-Khalid is a complete locally developed Tank of Pakistan and it took less than 10 years from design to handing over the batches to the Pak Army. There are also other Tanks that were not completely Pak design like Al-Zarar, (T-52, I think), but was modernized with new state of the art upgrades. There are also many locally made Armored Personell Carriers, etc. Pakistani Heavy Mechanical complex in Texila manufactures them.

It has detailed information on it's history, origins, design and development. It was a collaborative effort with China, taking design cues from Russian Tanks.

Kaveri is again being sent for flight test to Russia. Unfortunately India does not have that facility.
The Kaveri engin has some unique features, but it is over weight and under powered then stringent GSQR requirements.
LCA coming 500Kg heavier because added RAM (Radar Absorbing Material) coatings and extra avionics has not helped either. We will for now use GE404IN for the first 40
Well, we will either get EJ2000 or GE F-414 for further batches, time will tell.
