I didnt want to tell you to blow being christmas and all. I was an early follower of the NDP. I was there. Sounds like your a fan with a rescue fantasy from a poor family and school or perhaps reared up mount panang?
I bought this album when it was released...went to the concerts that suppoted it that summer. My HSC year was 1981, the Australian record for youth unemployment.Thank you Peter for shitting on the idealism of my youth. Did you say anything to Julia about selling uranium to India?
You fucking sellout prick. I hope you get throat cancer so you cant bullshit another generation or contaminate their mids with idealism that you sell out on for money and position
@zaphodtrillian it was not Garretts decision to sell the uranium to India, he did not vote for it, and actually made a passionate plea not to, I saw his stance on TV, so mate get ya facts right before telling the rest of people on here that he is a sell out....
@duncan1mar fuck off idiot! passionate plea my ass how about putting your passionate plea on the public record...there was none. Idol worship is a poor substitute for facts. When the dick head was a member of the NDP he stated he would walk out of any political process where the sale or use of uranium was a consideration. If you were there in 1980/81 you would know instead of talking shit.
@zaphodtrillian fuck off huh? well there, there don't get ya panties in a knot. All I was saying was that he voted against it, and here you are saying he sold out. zaphodtrillian does your ass get jealous with the amount of shit that comes out of your mouth?
No dude, you are not the only one. At the 3:00 mark, I pretty much lose my water. I have seen every great band of he past 40-plus years and my God, this is as good as it gets.
I was a huge Oils fan back in the day and saw them many many many times, they were always awesome live but I think that the people at the Capital Theatre on this night witnessed one of the best concerts of all time. I've only seen it on DVD but wish I was there live.
Best days of my youth going to nearly every Oils concert in the 80's! Truly amazing LIVE. Great to see them in 2009 also at the MCG for the Sound Relief Gig for the Victoria Bushfires.
I love them... never heard of them until now but that music is really good... got me tapping right away... I will be downloading some of their music for my workouts... Thanks Dave
During the last 2JJ concert at Paramatta, Garret sings I dont want to be the one but actually sang I dont want to be the wog by changing his voice. Lots of speed and alcohol there that day and things were out of control a bit.He also sang that former prime minister Malcolm "Fraser why dont you get fucked" so much for political correctness.
Sweet! Never saw them when they blew up big in Canada after Beds Are Burning but was aware of their reputation as a smoking live act and I can see why!
@sraft01The whole "Place Without a Postcard" album will be remembered as Peters biggest political contibution to this country. If you have not read the lyrics to this album your not Australian Banjo Patterson et al move over this is a modern classic...but even more of a worry the words a true.

I bet this is the number one song being played on all those fucking asylum seeker boats that are queued up up north "We're all looking for an easy way"....................
I have a great idea, lets rename Australia and call it CENTRELINK !!
We truly are the Lucky Country ... Oils are the best Live Concerts i have ever been at ... reckon there Live shows are even much better than there Albums
Best Oils song ever. (yep thats a big call I know). Managed to blag 2 tickets to the Manly Leaguies gig they did just before Waveaid, a mate flew over from LONDON for the other ticket. We were musing over what playlist they might have on the way there, both said "I hope they play Lucky Country !!". Guess what they opened with. We went nuts, brilliant gig. Almost makes you wish for yet another disaster so they might reform again ! (just kidding).
The boys had just come back from Japan broke after being dumped by thier record company at the time. So they put on these shows at the Capitol and really pumped up the songs, pure genius. I will never get sick of Midnight Oil

30 sum odd years on, Midnight Oil still makes the "modern sound" poop in it's Pampers. Still one of my top five bands of all time.

Awesome. Why is it whenever I hear this song I have to turn it up LOUD and sing my lungs out?
Am I the only one who gets a tear of pride in the eye as the song reaches it's crescendo? The Oils at the peak of their awsomeness.

@sraft01 you're not alone mate
two particularly memorable oils gigs for me were an outdoor festival
at noosa where the band headlined having not much earlier released
"10 to 1", and a pub tour they did a year or two later with the warumpis who
were just as exciting live...well...almost ! excellent post sraft01
