I tried the side jet stoves and the bloom was going up the sides of the pot and was eating a lot of fuel to get a boil. I built a new stove out of the bottom of an Axe can, it is a basic open flame stove with a hardware mesh pot stand JB Welded into the inside of he can. I will be testing it out tomorrow to see how it works.
@titan90000 Thanks. I just made another one today that is a lot like the first one before i made the changes to it. I am testing it now to see what works best. Both stoves work well and boil two cups of water. I am trying to get a better boil time though. I will have a new vid up soon, hopefully it will be my final with this stove. Best of luck with yours.
Google for "uberstove" and try the first hit (at least it is first4 today). It is my faved burner/potstand, made out of hair spray container. Fast, efficient, foolproof, needs no "priming skills". Gap or holes in inner part make it start in 10 s. Try it before laughing at it, cause it looks really funny.
Thanks. I am trying hard not to have a pot stand. The further I go with this It seems to be going that way. We will see. I also think I am going to add a fiberglass wick to the bottom of the stove as well. Thanks for the input. It always helps.
Your stove isn't the problem. It's your priming technique--you wouldn't boil a pot of water with a flame over a top would you? Why would you prime the same way? Also, the less contact area your have with the top rim, the less heat will transfer into the cold pot which slows down the stove--because it takes heat to evaporate the fuel. Less heat=lower evaporation rate

I think the alcohol has to boil first then it will bloom. If you pre heat it with a little extra alcohol it will bloom fast.
