A lot of people talk about Gary when in reality they knew nothing of him. He was a close personal friend, a co-writer, and recorded many of my songs. People say they would never commit suicide, but nobody knows what they will do until confronted with the right circumstances.Gary was married and loved the same woman for 43 years, and she died in his arms. What would you have done? The answer, you have no idea till it happens to you. The truth is ,Gary lived and died just like he wanted to.Sonny T
Thanks, flashbell, for posting my favorite GS song. Also, thanks for the very informative bio sketch. I really liked GS' songs, but saw him give a very poor live show in Dallas, maybe in the late 1980s, which I guess was a period in which he was on a personal downslide. But, at the top of his game, he was terrific and one of a kind. RIP GS. You are missed and will not be replaced.
Gary Stewart was true ciuntry,,thankfully his life will live on in his music,,God Bless You Gary,,to anyone who talks crap about his suicide,,let those without sin cast the first stone,,had you been in his shoes you don't know what you would have done.
Gary commited sucide in 2003 at his home in Ft Pierce FL He had lost his wife a few months earlier and he shot himself in the neck at his home, he was found 2 or 3 days later. We will all miss him, what a loss, a pure legend.
This man was one of the all-time great country singers. Like Hank Williams he died too young. I love his way of interpreting lyrics. Gary, God rest your soul, you will one day be seen as a legend of country music.
you don't have to believe me - as a friend of a friend of Gary's I was introduced and bumped into him a few times toward the end - he was simply sucked into what was expected of him - 1 drink too much and never enough. His music blows away what now passes for country and he was a good man who only hurt himself.
You got that right! Check out Gary's buddy Donnie Coleman and Jimmy Smith Easy People band members.Donnie Coleman toured with Gary . They have 3 songs on here of Gary's. They also still play local gigs every weekend and crank out those Gary songs.
it's sad what has become of country music, i prefer my CDs to the garbage that is played today,,bring back the leaving my man, cheating with my best friend's woman, while I'm gettting drunk country!!!
@ladygweni666 Hello, I agree with you. there's nothing like Gary's music.even today.very sad, That Nashvile, the music land never recognize him that ways. I only like the pure country classic. all those ledends, are gone.respectifully tours, anthony
todays country is just a bunch of studio-created- over manufactured robots who all look and sound alike. you use to have to have talent and few made it, the industry is now flooded with mediocore performers, nothing special.
After watching the CMA awards last week i was so pissed i had to go get all my Gary CDs and get drunk, it makes me sick that country music missed the boat on Gary s music and talent
one of Garys many hits man i miss him but with or without nashville Gary will always be the KING -OF -HONKY -TONK never be another Gary Stewart wouldn't want another sleep well my friend
Ditto! I own all of Gary Stewart's recordings, and only wish that there were more somewhere. I heard there was an album that he submitted back in the 80's that was deemed "unreleasable" by his label. Someone should do the right hting and give it to his fans now. I miss Gary Stewart...
hbbeverlymusic, I second you on that 'unreleasable' album. Who cares if it's not perfect? It's Gary's music. Anyone want to second me on a movie made about him? It would be worth watching, I'm sure.
I'll second you on that movie about Gary, statlerlover! Wow, what a dramatic film that could be! Who would be the actor though? That would be a tough role to fill...
I didn't picture Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash, but he did a great job, so I'm about the last person to name an actor. But, the person they pick will have to lip sync. Gary's voice is just too good to leave to an actor...Nashville would want to ban the movie because it would make them look bad. That's why I want a movie made. Might shake them up a bit.
One of these days they will recognize what they missed Gary, never forget the night ya sat in ur living room with a flattop and played Whiskey Trip and smiled and said, "well what ya think Tuck"
Quote Flashbell "Somewhere between the greed for money and sound judgment, the legends of country music were tossed aside for the outlandish sound they call country music today. RJB Nashville, Tennessee"
Flashbell, It's repulsive that "the powers that be" decide what talent is and try to force it down our throats. It's criminal that a fine talent such as this was essentially kicked to the curb by the Nashville Establishment, classic example of "Murder on Music Row" Thank God for Tootsie's!!!
