  • A lot of people talk about Gary when in reality they knew nothing of him. He was a close personal friend, a co-writer, and recorded many of my songs. People say they would never commit suicide, but nobody knows what they will do until confronted with the right circumstances.Gary was married and loved the same woman for 43 years, and she died in his arms. What would you have done? The answer, you have no idea till it happens to you. The truth is ,Gary lived and died just like he wanted to.Sonny T

  • Gary was a Honky Tonkin God. This guy was great!!!

  • @topgun86, YES he did commit suicide. His wife passed away just shortly before.

Gary was awesome, He was working on going back into the studio when all of this happened.

  • this songs alright

  • Thanks, flashbell, for posting my favorite GS song. Also, thanks for the very informative bio sketch. I really liked GS' songs, but saw him give a very poor live show in Dallas, maybe in the late 1980s, which I guess was a period in which he was on a personal downslide. But, at the top of his game, he was terrific and one of a kind. RIP GS. You are missed and will not be replaced.

  • my friends dont know i listen to gary every night when im drunk and alone, they wouldnt understand.....only gary does and hes right along side me.

  • Gary Stewart was true ciuntry,,thankfully his life will live on in his music,,God Bless You Gary,,to anyone who talks crap about his suicide,,let those without sin cast the first stone,,had you been in his shoes you don't know what you would have done.

  • Gary commited sucide in 2003 at his home in Ft Pierce FL He had lost his wife a few months earlier and he shot himself in the neck at his home, he was found 2 or 3 days later. We will all miss him, what a loss, a pure legend.

  • This man was one of the all-time great country singers. Like Hank Williams he died too young. I love his way of interpreting lyrics. Gary, God rest your soul, you will one day be seen as a legend of country music.

  • o.d. topgun, i had the honor of knowing this great guy, juust booze and coc. got the best.

  • @browncamp1 you sure got that right.awesome talent though

  • what happend to this type of music? its too bad that "pretty" trumps talent these days.

  • miss you gary

  • A true legend, wonderful performer, I attended his shows MANY times and enjoyed it greatly. RIP Gary.

  • good song

  • Yes he did. I would know he was my cousin ;)

  • your all full of shit he didnt commit suiside know what your talking about

  • @topgun86us, yes he did commit suicide. Study up and quit using profanity on this site.

  • @flashbell I agree with you.

  • you don't have to believe me - as a friend of a friend of Gary's I was introduced and bumped into him a few times toward the end - he was simply sucked into what was expected of him - 1 drink too much and never enough. His music blows away what now passes for country and he was a good man who only hurt himself.

  • @flashbell preach it brotha :D

  • @topgun86us Yes he did commit suicide

  • @topgun86us Wikipedia seems to think he did...........

  • @topgun86us I think you're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. He shot himself.

  • All i know is,Gary was, is still the best, Still the king. of honky tonk music. Sorry ,but it's true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what did he die from? He was great

  • @rondahl1 he committed suicide, gun shot wound to the neck

  • @mcbear51 he wouldn't of done it if his old lady wouldn't of left and if he wasn't drunk

  • @tweeder2011 she didn't leave...she died.

  • he commited suicide four months after his wife died. He just could not go on after her's death. Lost a GREAT signer to depression.

  • He committed suicide over the lost of his wife.

  • Gary made it real, pure country! We will always miss Gary! Thank you for posting and keeping his music alive!

  • One of my favorite Gary songs. When my country music station stopped playing Gary, I stopped listening to country music.

  • Who needs the drivel that passes for country music these days when you can play this on your CD player? Pure passion. Pure country.

  • it's sad what has become of country music, i prefer my CDs to the garbage that is played today,,bring back the leaving my man, cheating with my best friend's woman, while I'm gettting drunk country!!!

  • @ladygweni666 Hello, I agree with you. there's nothing like Gary's music.even today.very sad, That Nashvile, the music land never recognize him that ways. I only like the pure country classic. all those ledends, are gone.respectifully tours, anthony

  • hell ya love this song love all his songs this is real country fuck all this new shit....takin me a whiskey trip..yee haw

  • todays country is just a bunch of studio-created- over manufactured robots who all look and sound alike. you use to have to have talent and few made it, the industry is now flooded with mediocore performers, nothing special.

  • whiskey your a friend of mine!

  • What a great song -Great artist Love his stuff-thanks for sharing

  • After watching the CMA awards last week i was so pissed i had to go get all my Gary CDs and get drunk, it makes me sick that country music missed the boat on Gary s music and talent

  • I totally agree, Oberson.

  • i agree....im only 15 but i proudly wear my johnny cash belt buckle and steel toed boots to school....nowdays aint what they use to be

  • Gary has always been one of my favorite county singers. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in a small club in the San Fernando, CA.

  • This man was the greatest country singer of all time. There will never be a better voice to dance to. I love you Gary,Rest in Peace.

  • one of Garys many hits man i miss him but with or without nashville Gary will always be the KING -OF -HONKY -TONK never be another Gary Stewart wouldn't want another sleep well my friend

  • all stuff aint the same as they used to be

  • This song always makes me want to go out drinking & dancing - what a song! What an amazing singer who deserved so much more recognition.

This is real Honky Tonk music!

  • Flash...

Any chance you could post "She's Acting Single".

Love to listen to these songs while at work.

    Many thanks...

  • Over the top! Hats off to ya Gary!

  • Ditto! I own all of Gary Stewart's recordings, and only wish that there were more somewhere. I heard there was an album that he submitted back in the 80's that was deemed "unreleasable" by his label. Someone should do the right hting and give it to his fans now. I miss Gary Stewart...

  • hbbeverlymusic, I second you on that 'unreleasable' album. Who cares if it's not perfect? It's Gary's music. Anyone want to second me on a movie made about him? It would be worth watching, I'm sure.

  • I'll second you on that movie about Gary, statlerlover! Wow, what a dramatic film that could be! Who would be the actor though? That would be a tough role to fill...

  • I didn't picture Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash, but he did a great job, so I'm about the last person to name an actor. But, the person they pick will have to lip sync. Gary's voice is just too good to leave to an actor...Nashville would want to ban the movie because it would make them look bad. That's why I want a movie made. Might shake them up a bit.

  • One of these days they will recognize what they missed Gary, never forget the night ya sat in ur living room with a flattop and played Whiskey Trip and smiled and said, "well what ya think Tuck"

  • One of the all time greats of country music!! One of the greatest singers I've ever heard. This is country when it was COUNTRY.

  • Quote Flashbell "Somewhere between the greed for money and sound judgment, the legends of country music were tossed aside for the outlandish sound they call country music today. RJB Nashville, Tennessee"

Flashbell, It's repulsive that "the powers that be" decide what talent is and try to force it down our throats. It's criminal that a fine talent such as this was essentially kicked to the curb by the Nashville Establishment, classic example of "Murder on Music Row" Thank God for Tootsie's!!!

  • I agee toms!

  • Ill second that!!!

country for the last 12 years or so has been nothing but CRAP!!

they sure dont make them lik they used to

  • If you've got Easy People I'd love to add it to my favorites!!! Thank you for the great video!!

  • I takin' my whiskey trip as the music plays. Singin' along and wantin' her (the love of my life, Sweetness) I should be there soon....

  • I love this song I feel like taking a whiskey trip right now lol

  • hell I'm taking a whiskey trip right now Gary is the greastest honkeytonker of all time

  • Gary Stewart was at the top of the list of pure country artists. It is so sad that he his life was so short and he suffered from his addictions and the nightmares that haunted him.

  • Somewhere between the greed for money and sound judgment, the legends of country music were tossed aside for the outlandish sound they call country music today. RJB Nashville, Tennessee

  • @flashbell find something better to do then comment everybody else! music is music why mess it up with runnin your mouth???

  • @cattlesmith , I have no idea what you are talking about, but if you can be specific, I can answer your distress. I am a historian of country music. What are your credentials?

  • In my view the best Gary Stewart song and he had many good ones.
