I believe Mas Oyama's Kyokushinkai is very strong, but so is Shotokan. I think that all martial arts in the west have been softened due to health and safety requirements and the litigiousness society we live in. There is no such thing as a best or strongest karate; it all depends on the karateka's strength (mind more than body) and abilities. In case you are of the opinion that Shotokan is not effective, have a look at the Japanese police training videos on YouTube. Enjoy what you do!
Different push-ups exercise different muscles and strengthen those around joints. Push-ups with a closed fist should be done on only the first two knuckles; this conditions the fist and helps to give a right angle from the top of the fist down the front making it easier to punch correctly. If you relax your hand, you will find that the 3rd and 4th knuckles can be easily moved up and down; the first two are more strongly connected to the hand and cannot. That's why we use those two to strike.
I watched your video and have seen much better. The paper partially conceals the fact that your finger and thumb are not arched but have collapsed thus spreading the weight. I would make my students do them again if they carried them out in this fashion. Please submit another video with a side view so that we can see daylight under your finger/thumb arch and that only the tips are in connection with the floor.
You have seen MUCH better and you will make your students repeat if they did them the way I do? Wow! Please post a video of their attempts or anybody elses for that matter that does the ONE hand-two finger push ups MUCH better. I will appreciate that! Thanks! :)
Udalov1 What is so bad about it?! They went all the way down and their backs were straight... Look dude, grow up and get your lazy ass off the couch and do Pushups... Oh! Sorry, you can't because you like to complain.
Cool, where's your school? My school was the only school I've seen that does that same training except we do some more that I didn't see you guys do, but you probably just didn't show them.
Hi, I've trained at and taught Shotokan Karate for over 40 years so there's only a very small amount on the clip. I teach at Newcastle upon Tyne but due to health problems I now only teach a few High grades. I hope you still train and enjoy it. If you can, try makiwara training to strengthen techniques, also use a heavy punchbag which gives a more realistic feel, more like hitting a body.
Yes it really is karate but only a small part of training. The video was uploaded just for a bit of a laugh. The puple belt karateka nearest had not trained for a long time hence his lack of strength. Try the different exercises yourself including one which is not there ie push ups on the backs of the hands with the hands turned outwards then inwards (an exercise used more in Aikido training). Best of luck.
