The whaler made a deliberate turn to its right at the last minute, ramming the Ady Gil on purpose. I think that's quite evident from the footage.

HMMMMM...Gil was trying to foul the whaler prop with a towed line, I'd have run them over too. But, I would have done a MUCH better job of it.

And, just maybe, the Gil moving forward into the Whaler path had something to do with the collision?
