  • NOt easy...Great concentration necessary

  • I remember seeing this when I was 10, great stuff.

  • GREAT PERFORMANCE!! SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK video!

  • new respect for Roy Clark

  • exceptional effort

  • i am sorry this is bullshit , when hear the the greats this so far off

  • @elixir252 Maybe it's not the world's best, but it is very far from bullshit, my friend. This is all about the right hand as what the left is doing isn't anything super hard. But his beat keeping right hand is masterful. I'm sorry you don't see that.

  • THE GREATEST<<THANK GOD FOR letting us have him among us for the time we did

  • That's got to be the fastest right hand I've ever seen.

  • @Stephen2112 you really need to get out more;

ever hear of a fella named Feliciano? or Cruz?

  • @dreemeagle You hit it right on the head. Feliciano is the greatest, not to mention Esteban and Segovia.

  • Love it!!

  • And then we landed on the Moon!

  • Legend, period. Perhaps the greatest guitarist ever.

  • 3:46 hit it roy

  • I'm making it my life goal to learn this

  • best rendition ive heard

  • I hate that bubble also ...his playing knocks me out ! I can watch him all day !

  • Just listened and looked away from the epileptic seizure inducing graphic.....lovely guitar!

  • Damn! I really wanna see this video ! But wtf is up with the graphics? Had to stop after 33 seconds due to seizure factor. Rats!

  • Amazing!

  • wow!

  • I saw you play this many years ago in Abilene Texas at the fair with Marty Robins as the MC, I had never heard of you. You put your guitar on the floor and steped into it and pull the strap up over your shoulder, hit a few bad cords and then played the Alabama Jebalee . The crowd went wild, they then realoized, you were a real guitar talent. I come to Branison alot and I hope I meet you someday, God Bless you Roy.

  • What the....I thought I was getting a migraine coming on with the tunnel vision effect! 8-0

  • cool power speed he could play amazingly fast

  • its black metal w/o distortion...its also beautifull

  • How could there not be any comments. He is incredible.

  • when Roy practices they sell it

  • This piece of music really turns my crank no matter who plays it.

    Roy Clark's version is fantastic!

For another worndeful and more purely Spanish Flamenco version by an incredible master, check out "Malaguena Sabicas"

  • Is that one in the Big Note Songbook?

  • if ur not a guitarist I recommend u don't watch his fingers,we want to know,u wantthe entertainment

  • yes the bubble is distracting

  • Mr. Clark, virtuoso . . . but is he playing a Byrdland or L-5 CES?

  • I wish I had a fraction of the talent he has in his pinky

  • Filmed before the "Less is More" theory of video FX caught on.

  • Bravo!!! Even if it's not authentic Spanish/flamenco, it is a beautiful sound.

  • Probably one of, if the most, underrated musicians of our time. Man is amazing with anything with strings!

  • @yjjeepman One of the reasons he isn't considered a "master" is because he used a pick mostly. "Spanish" style does not use one, and here he using one to simply 'mimic' the sound.

Don't get me wrong, Roy in my view IS a master, but he never was able to play Spanish guitar on par with even the likes of Charo. Check out her playing. She plays the part of a bimbo very well, but she is absolutley a master guitarist in the Spanish style. After all she studied under THE master Segovia for 7 years.

  • I've been listening around and I think this is my favourite performance of this piece. It has real shape: even the best performances of it dont always hang together.

  • @newgeorge Roy is a guitar god. But he can not come close to the Great Carlos Montoya (RIP) with this song.

  • @viocast isn't he racing NASCAR now?

  • perfect.

  • This has a definite Mexican dusty bandito sound to it. Roy looks great here too.

  • Awesome guitar playing!!

  • GOTTA BE A REAL WIZARD TO BE ABLE TO PLAY LIKE ROY. LOVED THIS POWERFUL RENDITION, SUCH PURE POWER IN HIS ''MAGIC'' FINGERS. A PERFECT 10, NO 11

  • Had the pleasure of working with Roy when he was guest artist at the Air Force Concert Band series here at Constitution Hall in DC...I was one of the video cameras, so I got to shoot his playing CU, and as an amateur player, I was drooling....

I recall seeing him on Carson, I believe doing "Malaguena" when he blew a string, and without any hesitation, he switched frets and kept going, improvising around it...just a wonderful performer.

  • there should be an epilepsy warning on this vid

  • this is like watching radiation poisoning taking effect

  • no shit I think i can play this

  • Im a metal/rock guy, and thank god for youtube. The whole hee-haw image took away from Roy. This man is is an amazing, talented player.

  • Roy's performance on that beautiful Gibson hollow-body guitar is incredible! There's a handful of guys' in the world that can play like that and Roy is the king!

    We love you Roy!

  • Would you Quit that crap I'm having a seizure for fuck sake!!!!! Roy, you keep going! You're awesome!!!

  • Roy Clark was a monster ! ! !

    Tremendous.

    A true beast ! ! !

  • Wasn't he on "Hee Haw"? Nice to see a serious side.

  • Man, my monitor just started smoking after that!

  • I feel like I should never touch my guitar again.......j/k

But man, that is some intimidating, masterful guitar playing right there!

  • 17 people prefer Esteban's version.

  • You killed Roy Clark's breath-taking rendition of La Malaguena with that stupid bubble effect.

  • Love the playing, HATE the distracting spinning bubble to look thru.

  • @overbrookXXX It's like your on an acid trip! With music! Whoo!

  • @overbrookXXX OMG, what is up with that red shit

  • @overbrookXXX - Yeah, I agree. Typical 60's special effect. You could probably appreciate the bubble more if you were on acid.

  • @overbrookXXX Yet another film student trying to make their mark.

  • @overbrookXXX yes...i feel the same!!!

  • I felt that.

  • Sure wish I could find Chords /TAB for the EXACT way he plays it

  • @snakeiiizzz6 I agree. I can't find any sheet music.

  • This one literally brought tears to my eyes.....guitar perfection. Still have my Roy Clark album collection. Really it's the televised gems like this that are so great. I love all the TV specials and special guest duets he would do. Roy is the MAN !

  • This version, along with Jose Feliciano's version of "Malaguena" are the

best two that i've ever heard.Hard to pick which one is better.

  • I love roy clark as a musician

  • i'm sry I must apoligize for my confidence,I Can play that

  • Bravissimo!!

  • Fine performance, but I prefer the version he performed on "The Odd Couple" with an accoustic guitar.

  • Beautiful, and fun to listen to, (but not watch due to the ridiculous red effect), but I personally don't think that Malageuena was ever intended for an electricly enhanced guitar. To me it is such an intimate and personal piece of music, and the electrical enhancement takes some of that away from the original. Check out "Sabicas Malaguenea" on YouTube to see what I mean.

  • @jgmagoo1 keep in mind Roy Clark is mostly a country/western musician.he brought a lot of country fans to other styles of guitar through this meshing of genres. it is not an attempt at playing true flamenco;it is more a

flamenco "flair". the strumming is superb imitation of the flamenco finger strum(pickless fingerstyle) .

  • @crabtrap I agree 100%! I love to see mastery of the guitar at ANY level! It is such a fantastic instrument and can have an almost limitless number of personalities.

  • Great stuff, y have I never heard of this cat until 5 minutes ago. While randomly searching on y.tube

  • this man is the master

  • Gorgeous music, stunning performance.

  • yes but don't watch...listen

  • I couldn't watch the video. Stupid effects almost made me go into a seizure.

  • great song.lame video effect.i just listened and couldn t watch really.

  • And banjo.... and mandolin.... and fiddle...

I feel an inferiority complex coming on.

  • He is still alive and kicking it at his ranch in Tulsa, Ok. Keep on TRUCK"IN ROY.

  • Man. If this guy was still alive today and played shows. He'd get the biggest and loudest applause ever.

  • @AaronSmithchyeaah he is still alive, 78 years old

  • hey well the part from 0.0 to 439? dont watch that pussies

  • always fun 2 watch singing playing and both.

  • My friends Carlos's father taught me this song a long , long time ago . This version reminds me of B. Setzers version I'm sure Brian used this version as his reference . Roy Clark was a bad ass no two ways about it ;)

  • Hey ! That effect was cool in 1970! LOL It was the only effect!!! Roy Clark is such a masterful guitarist! The man is always awesome to watch! I'm glad I got to see him in person!!!

  • It skips 4:38

  • NO VISUAL EFFECTS PLEASE

  • do u see what he's doing he's brillant

  • i hope u all realize this man is a if not the ledgend

  • Roy is absolutely the all time master of Malaguena playing. I saw (and heard) him do Malaguena on an acoustic guitar and it was amazing.

  • @TheRowwdy yep

  • Behold....a true master of his craft! Luv ya, Roy.

  • No doubt take Roy is a top 5 greatest Guitar player ever. As much as I love Jimmy, He could not play the stuff Roy plays. Just wasn't around long enough to get this good. And yes Roy could play anything Jimmy ever wrote. So yes I'm saying that Roy is a better all around player then Jimmy was. But Roy has been playing way longer then Jimmy was with us. Plus he was a rock star and did have to know every type of music. Roy can also play almost anything with strings

  • The red is a bit annoying but you have to consider the time frame of this recording. Now you can do much better framing on the computer in about the blink of an eye. At the time this was done it was probably considered artistic.

  • Masterful. Just the best. Is a pity about some of the visuals though.

  • greatest guitar player of them all, could play anything and master it.

  • Love the music!!! HATE the "special effects", why on earth would you ruin the video with that??? TAKE IT OFF.

  • @golfgranny58 Have u ever experimented with psychedelics granny? Enjoy yourslf.

  • @golfgranny58 Obviously you didn't read the annotation on the screen stating it was part of the original broadcast,,, not something that was added for YT. }8-(

  • great job Roy,,,but Charo is miles ahead of you. sorry...

  • The song is really cool but the visual effect looks stupid and corny. Great guitar playing though!

  • @cdhoskins1977 True, scanimate was probably not the best in some situations.

  • To bad it was on electric where the notes are sustained. But bet he could rock it out on the classical guitar just the same.

  • @tanguman2 Check out the video on yt called "Roy Clark Guitar Wizard". He plays this on an a classical guitar on the TV show The Odd Couple.

  • @UnclePeJay I just checked that out...that was F'in' awesome....

  • Best watched with the video out of sight. Audio only ftw.

  • Way to ruin the experience!

  • All done with a pick- very well done. He was known for his mouthed expressions, he put feeling in to it. He plays better than I do for sure. I always liked Roy's playing.

  • I'd prefer the classical guitar version of this song to be honest... Still very great work!

  • respects to brian setzer but until Roy dies he is King

  • les claypool doesnt have shit on roy clark's slapping and popping.

  • LOVE Roy Clark, but Why must you use such annoying special effects and why do some people feel the need to use foul language on these posts??

  • @motokokusanagifan65 It wasn't him, it was the producer of whoever made the show in the 60s. Yeah, it's annoying, but the guy responsible's probably dead or something. So since there's no one to take it up with, just deal.

  • why must you put that annoyimg little hole??

  • fuckin' aye

  • and non musicians enemy,they can't understand

  • you're arguing with an idiot if he doesn't hear or see what we see in roy clark, roy is many musicians hero

  • He is fantastic,...and you should see/hear him on the banjo.

  • Not that his single note picking is all that shabby, but his strumming would make a lot of speed metal guitarists envious.

    What a player...

  • does anyone know if this recording is available on dvd?

  • THis is a great video but the moving red backrground is painfull

  • I think Yngwie took lessons from Roy.....

  • This is an amazing piece. I never realized Roy Clark was this great till I heard this. Thank you for posting it.

  • This is an amazing piece. I never realized Roy Clarke was this great till I heard this. Thank you for posting it.

  • there are child prodigy's that are great,, its great to see a child prodigy who is now a grandpa and is still playing,,

  • That was AMAZING!!!!! That was so beautiful, thank you for posting it! If their were a higher rating than 5 I would give it gladly!

  • Roy is the MASTER!!!

  • So much feeling and intensity, just incredible, powerful and beautiful.

  • he also plays trumpet and other wind instruments, that's where he loses me

  • growing up in the 60's I heard Roy knew how to play more instruments than anyone I had heard of,over 7 more when u divide guitars into mandolin and lute,he's the best I know

  • He's still God and Greenbay is Superbowl Champs

  • Far be it from me to promote the cult of virtuosity, but DAMN!

  • roy clark is a god where i come from, not the god but a god

  • SUCKAMUCHO,SENOR

  • SUCKAMUCHO,SENOR

  • I didnt realise Captain James T Kirk could play so dam good :-)

  • know who plays like this?...Steve Howe of Yes

  • Roy is masterful the video is epileptic

  • that opening video is annoying enough to set off epileptic fits

  • The best part is from 0:00 to 4:39

  • @Juansarabiaman I can play that

  • I wish I had that guitar

  • Love Clark's rendition!

  • I like it too but fyi it is a fingerpickin song not a flatpicking song...

  • @walkertongdee fyi it was written for piano. ...Personlly, I don't believe I've ever seen someone fingerpick a piano in my life. But I bet breaking a string could be hazardous to your health. Maybe THAT'S why people only fingerpick guitars these days...

  • @BuckitSitch Dear bucketofshit Fyi A piano is a modified harp and a harp is played with the fingers. When this song is played on a guitar it is played in the CLASSIC flaminco style, his is a treatment abeit agood one. I said I like it what do you want me to do get down on my kness and pray to him...

  • Comment removed

  • @walkertongdee I guess when YOU post YOUR video of YOU playing, YOU can just Finger Pick.

    THIS VIDEO is Roy's Interpretation.

It is what it is. If you don't like it, stop listening.

there is very little about music that is written on stone, The Artist MAKES the music.

  • @SuperChuckRaney I said I liked it TWICE, I know you like it more, fo& dmf...Ps I will challenge you to a pickin contest here on the tube anyday.

  • @walkertongdee ohh I forgot to add in my post >> Roy switches from Finger to Pick at least 3 times that I can see.

Not sure If I like it more than you. I do like the music >mostly because it is not the same as the other 100 vids on here of Malagueana.

HATE the Vid wiggley thing from the TV production.

  • @SuperChuckRaney Yea, guess I should look at it closer, he has allways been good. I saw him and Glen campbell on a talk show once when campbell snuck up behind him and started playing the guitar with him. Cant find that video anywhere but I did find Don and Phil Everly and Tennessee Ernie Ford doing it. Let me know if you find this. See Jim Stafford running around the guitat while playing it, a hoot!!! Sean the flatpicker

  • this dude is awesome.....

  • Roy is awesome! He makes Yngwie Malmsteen look slow!

  • OK- I have been a fan of Roys since childhood, I have even met the man.. I watched almost every episode of Hee-Haw..but I would just like to know what hee-haw producer could have POSSIBLY thought this red spinning blob was a good idea? What an ugly mess, they partly destroyed this amazing performance!

  • He is a true Master.

  • What an awful effect! Makes you not want to watch this! Yuck!

  • @dkinsac 1969 what do ya want? Enjoy yourself ..

  • @dkinsac I agree, for as much as I am a fan of the old school scanimate effect...this wasn't the best effect to use at all on this preformance.

  • @dkinsac apparently you dont know what good music is,and what a real musician is

  • Respond to this video... disregard my comment

  • This is the first time I've seen Malaguena strummed on the guitar. Normally it is played on the nylon-stringed classical guitar and is played with the fingers. Roy Clark is awesome!

  • One of the original guys who made me want to play. Magical old video.

  • This is just out of this world wonderful! Roy studied under the great Chet Atkins! if my understanding is correct!

  • Masterpiece! Not a single missed note. Not even a single muted string. Played with absolute authority. Roy Clark's talent doesn't get nearly the recognition it should. He was a guitar virtuoso in every right. It's a real shame that some dimwitted producer put that stupid disco effect around him. What a distraction that is.

  • Anytime you ask any of the top guitar names (older than 30) about the top guitar players of all time Roy Clark is alway mentioned. I used to watch that retarded Hee Haw just to see him play.

  • @rathuanyatzi I couldn't agree more!!!! Both men are without peer and deserve 10,000 stars plus!!! Thank you for the kind comment my friend!!!!

  • the spinning blob from the beginning takes your breath away as you get transported to the skies of "shinning Roy Clark's" gut wrenching, stunning and mezmorizing playing which was filmed right about the beginning of H.H.H. (his Hee-Haw) days

  • bad ass!!!!

  • My Uncle, who lived in Spain AND played piano, said this was written for TWO guitars. Did I mention he got a standing ovation from my University's College of Music for his playing pf Beethoven's 14th sonata.

  • This song was written for TWO guitars. I saw Roy perfore this in New York. He must have sweated 5 lbs!!!
