I think the Parental Advisory sticker is a total fail for a few reasons. Eminem's CDs are awesome, but they deserve the sticker, because of all the violence, sex, and language. However, a CD with far, far less explicit content could get the sticker as well, such as Jack's Mannequin's "Everything in Transit". It got the same sticker just for using three F-bombs. Just THREE F-BOMBS.
It makes every CD that has it look equally explicit. They should at least put an age range on the CD, or something.
@TheAndrewj96 "Age range" ?? - Parental Advisory signifies the age range, lol.
Music is music, some music is provocative and has a message, but some doesn't; some mean things emotionally. The vitality of music is up to the listen to decide if it's appropriate, good, bad, okay, ect. Eminems(as much as I dislike him) albums DO have stickers. Censoring music is Nazi Party like, who's to say what you shouldn't listen to or how to listen to it? Fuck...it's like the Nuremberg Laws.
She speaks of this music "brainwashing" impressionable minds. Well who's not to say that forcing kids to pledge allegiance everyday isn't brainwashing? Being pumped full of nationalistic bullshit from the day you're born? There are far worse problems and the ironic part is that music put out by Frank Zappa or Jello Biafra is that they are using it as a means of expressing themselves and separating themselves from all of this and this turbo bitch comes and condemns them!
@ishouldgetbacktowork I agree. It's the exact same thing with religion, too. My parents are Christians, and I used to believe all the bullshit they shoved in my face until a few months ago, when I learned to think for myself, and not let anyone else think for me.
Religious parents don't let their kids think for themselves, and that really pisses me off. It's like, "Believe in the invisible man who can save you after you die, kids! If you don't, you will burn and suffer forever!"
It is my understanding that in law First Amendment issues are decided with a preference for the least restrictive alternative. In this context, the PMRC demands are the equivalent of treating dandruff by
decapitation.
No one has forced Mrs. Baker or Mrs. Gore to bring Prince or Sheena Easton into their homes. Thanks to the Constitution, they are free to buy other forms of music for their children.
The PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years
dealing with the interpretational and enforcemental problems inherent in the proposal's design.
I hate it when people rate media based on its family-friendliness and religious value. It's fucking stupid. There's this site called PluggedIn that reviews movies, music, TV, and video games - based on their family-friendliness. Like, they called Eminem's Slim Shady LP "One of the most diseased discs ever... Avoid The Slim Shady LP at all costs."
Basically, if people like this say something is awful, it's probably one of the best things you'll ever hear/see, and vice versa.
To say this is Gods nation is not only false but extremely ignorant, (Even though the big man upstairs believes in free will, thats about all this nation has in common with God.) and to use the term "Devils Music" you probably don't know the origin of why ignoramuses refer to it that way is because of a single musical note... a single musical note that gave people a weird feeling (a sexual feeling, funny huh?) so because it was weird it was (Unfairly) dubbed "The Devil's Note"
If you hate then the Devil has already claimed your soul and you've lost even if you win this argument, so its kinda like competing in the special olympics, even if you win you're still retarded, i don't fucking care about your self righteous, religious blathering, i'm christian myself but not religious, heres some reality for you Mr Jesus Christ Pose, America was not built on God but by a man who worshipped God much like you.
@TheDennisegg lots of rock music has nothing to do with the devil. lots of rock music is about having a good time and forgetting all your troubles. some of my favourite bands are rock bands or heavy metal bands and the members are christians and catholics. i agree that there is heavy music that is satinist or the bands worship the devil and they suck. they should be banned. but if you think all rock music is the devils music then you are very wrong my friend. this is a battle you will not win.
@TheDennisegg In other words, you value your own moral values higher than other peoples right to freely choose whatever they want to listen to. Being offended is a subjective thing - it has everything to do with you as an individual. What offends me may not offend you. You want to make laws about this? You want to limit other peoples freedom because YOU got offended= For christ's sake, wasn't the United States supposed to be the land of the free? Apparently not.
Children need protecting from politicians, prime ministers , lying Presidents and the mass media controlled by war mongering nation destroying Zionists.....they have a choice whether to buy or listen to music but government indoctrination in schools is mandatory

@gamesDAMNED Normal cycles of heating and cooling that have happened in the past before man was even here. NASA pretty much shot GW in the ass. It was an Al Gore money making scheme and little more.
wow, watching this has made me realize that nothing in our government or the way it conducts federal operation(s) has changed in twenty six years. We're stuck in this quagmire where the left props up the right and vice versa. The last thing the left or the right wants is a rise in third party partisanship. They use language and diversionary tactics to bog us down so that noone will ever make progress.
Change is the last thing our current and or previous leader(s) intend(ed) to bring about. sad.
@LetsGoMetsGo33 Oh, forgot, something else: he believed in the right of an industry to autonomously regulate itself, given that it proves itself capable of doing so. Remember this is also at a time when a non-trivial segment of society believed rock, or some kinds of rock, was, in one way or another, satanic, evil, immoral, or what have you. Being stuck with a sticker could kill sales of an otherwise mainstream album.
@LetsGoMetsGo33 His basic objection was the slippery slope; it seemed likely that, granted mandated labeling, the PMRC would next push for legislation to hide "adult" albums from consumers and dispense them only on request, and from there, who knows. I'd argue it is thanks to the efforts of Frank that you get to make that choice for your kids.
@riffraffselbow EXACTLY like how the NRA fights for the 2nd amendment. They know as these musicians did that once you let these politicians and special interest groups have ONE SINGLE thing they want, they use it as a precedent to go for more. THIS is why the NRA fights for the right to bear arms. There really should be no dochotomy between artists and people who figh for any part of the constitution. ANY loss of rights is wrong.
@SCROGY The slippery slope is common feature in argumentation. I hardly think it's appropriate to call the NRA "exactly like" Frank Zappa.
That said, I do agree with the NRA's basic goals.
However, mind pointing me to where NASA "shot GW in the ass"? because it seems that they concur with the conclusion "Increases in greenhouse gases caused by human action are/will lead to higher temperatures in the future", just disagree on the magnitude/immediacy. This is how science works, btw.
@riffraffselbow I was referring to their common desires to protect a part of the constitution. And as far as NASA, they also said that the temperature readings taken by many research stations monitoring global temps were innacurate.
what was the big deal about PMRC, wasn't it just warning stickers? i'm basically libertarian about social issues, but it seems these stickers, subjective as they are, merely gave information to the consumer. its like pg-13 or r ratings for movies (yes i heard zappa's attempt to make a distinction between those and the explicit lyrics labels); personally i ignre them and decide whether my kids can see a movie based on my own judgement. some ppl, however, seem to find them helpful...
@LetsGoMetsGo33 Yes but hindsight is 20/20. People were concerned about legsislation that could be inacted once you give Uncle Sam a foot in the door.
the pmrc tried banning videos and censoring rock music all together. what only ended up happening was that the sticker goes on people's albums. the sticker was an epic failure because it gave people all the more reason to buy the album.
@iluvroknrol93 Yes! I remember watching one of those "History of" shows on VH1, and one rocker (I can't remember who anymore) said "When I heard they were gonna put warning stickers on our records, I said, 'DO IT!'"
BTW, does anybody out there know who said that, and what show it was on? It would've been on VH1, sometime in the last two years. I'd appreciate it.
@iluvroknrol93 Thanks for responding. I'm not sure it was Bret; if it'd been him, I probably would've remembered it was him, only because he's been in the public eye over the last few years. It might have been someone like Sebastian Bach -- but most definitely a member of an '80s hair metal band.
No... it was a "PMRC" Senate hearing. It was the organization that led to the trial in the first place. We are not talking about different things. I am done arguing about it.
Screw the PMRC. Hopefully, the American people won't elect a Bible thumper like Sarah Palin as president in 2012 who may attempt to bring back this nonsense again.
8 years of religious nuts influencing GW Bush's policies was too much as is.
As much as I don't like hip hop, groups like 2 Live Crew kept freedom of expression alive for today's artists.
@nightfrog65 This was actually a joint effort. Some members of the PMRC were "Bible Thumping" Socially Conservative Republicans attempting to legislate morality, while others were "Big Government" Liberal Democrats attempting to "protect Americans from their own ignorance" about "potentially harmful" and "morally questionable" lyrics, album art, and live performances. BOTH parties were AND STILL ARE equally guilty of attempting to control Americans' private lives through legislation.
Thanks for the clarification. Whether it's Bible thumpers or big-government liberals, the government has no business regulating the music industry-they will get their sales tax from retailers and concert halls regardless of the genre and lyrics.
This was another example of spouses of high-ranking politicians (i.e. Tipper Gore) pretending that their spouse's authority transfers to them by default of marriage.
@nightfrog65 AMEN!!! Now, here's a puzzle. Is your opinion of Al Gore's credibility as the poster child for the Global Warming movement in any way diminished by his behavior at these hearings? I'm not commenting one way or the other on Global Warming. That's a different discussion altogether. However, it troubles me that the main spokesman is Al Gore. Find the full 3-Video set on YouTube of Dee Snider's testimony. You'll hate Gore like never before.
@OmniphonProductions Sorry to but in but if you get a bullshitter like Gore in to front an agenda then you either don't care what people think or you're deluded. It's like getting Gary Glitter to promote the Save The Children charity.
@killanimalsforfun247 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Don't be sorry, at all, about butting in. You've just reinforced my point. How in the name of all that is decent and holy did Al Gore, who has no specialized education is any scientific aspect of the Global Warming concept, get an Oscar and a Nobel, when all he did was compile other people's research, excluding all research that didn't validate his preconceived opinion? Again, I'm not commenting on Global Warming itself, but their spokesman is a joke.
@OmniphonProductions I'm with the late George Carlin on the whole 'save the planet' crap we get told to belive in but getting Al Gore to sell it to us, that has to be a piss take? The fucker has a heated swimming pool, electric security gates and floodlights at ONE of his mansions and he is telling us that WE are killing the planet. He's just a charletan selling another scam to make himself and his masters more money out of us.
It was pretty much a bi-partisan action to establish the PMRC. To try and blame one side for this kind of madness just plays right into the politicians' game. It's time we, the people, took the power back.
Tipper Gore was an ASSHOLE. It this whole bullshit went right up her poopshoot cause all it did was make record sales for all the good music from then on skyrocket.
Frank Zappa cared about the Constitution. Congress didn't care about the Constitution then and they sure as hell don't give a shit about it now. Let's clone Frank Zappa 535 times and set all of them up to run for every position of Congress and President.
@ACDC7369 Yeah I agree they don't give a shit about it now, and didn't then, and probably hasn't for a long time. I've heard that many things have inconspicuously been changed in the Constitution, presumably by the Government (of course). Leave it up to them... I'm guessing we'll see that Constitution *further* changing until it's something we don't recognize at all, and probably eventually gotten rid of entirely, along with all the freedoms it stands for. I don't think that's too far away...
@tall32guy They can't actually change the Constitution without amending it. But to Congress and the President, the amendment process is too much of an inconvenience and a hassle, so they just flat out ignore the Constitution and push whatever unconstitutional agenda through that they feel like...and the American People let them get away with it. I agree though that we may be coming to a point soon where the Constitution will be scrapped, this youngest generation cares less about it than ever
right on Frank nailed those fucking hypocrites. Long live Frank - a man of free will and with no fear to speak his mind freely and openly. You might be dead but you will be remembered as long as there are genuine people out there (among the great majority of the plastic ones) and i bet my ass on that.
I was watching a tribute to hair metal on VH1 not too long ago, and I saw a musician say, "When I heard they wanted to put warning labels on our records, I said, 'Are you kidding?! DO IT!!'" Did anybody else see that, and if they did, can you tell me who it was who said that on that special?
After all this time, still relevant today... This guy knew what was in store for America... RIP Frank...

wow, watching this has made me realize that nothing in our government or the way it conducts federal operation(s) has changed in twenty six years. We're stuck in this quagmire where the left props up the right and vice versa. The last thing the left or the right wants is a rise in third party partisanship. They use language and diversionary tactics to bog us down so that noone will ever make progress.
Change is the last thing our current and or previous leader(s) intend(ed) to bring about. sad.
f1471in3r 7 months ago
@LetsGoMetsGo33 Oh, forgot, something else: he believed in the right of an industry to autonomously regulate itself, given that it proves itself capable of doing so. Remember this is also at a time when a non-trivial segment of society believed rock, or some kinds of rock, was, in one way or another, satanic, evil, immoral, or what have you. Being stuck with a sticker could kill sales of an otherwise mainstream album.
riffraffselbow 7 months ago
@LetsGoMetsGo33 His basic objection was the slippery slope; it seemed likely that, granted mandated labeling, the PMRC would next push for legislation to hide "adult" albums from consumers and dispense them only on request, and from there, who knows. I'd argue it is thanks to the efforts of Frank that you get to make that choice for your kids.
riffraffselbow 7 months ago
@riffraffselbow EXACTLY like how the NRA fights for the 2nd amendment. They know as these musicians did that once you let these politicians and special interest groups have ONE SINGLE thing they want, they use it as a precedent to go for more. THIS is why the NRA fights for the right to bear arms. There really should be no dochotomy between artists and people who figh for any part of the constitution. ANY loss of rights is wrong.
SCROGY 6 months ago
@SCROGY The slippery slope is common feature in argumentation. I hardly think it's appropriate to call the NRA "exactly like" Frank Zappa.
That said, I do agree with the NRA's basic goals.
However, mind pointing me to where NASA "shot GW in the ass"? because it seems that they concur with the conclusion "Increases in greenhouse gases caused by human action are/will lead to higher temperatures in the future", just disagree on the magnitude/immediacy. This is how science works, btw.
riffraffselbow 6 months ago
@riffraffselbow I was referring to their common desires to protect a part of the constitution. And as far as NASA, they also said that the temperature readings taken by many research stations monitoring global temps were innacurate.
SCROGY 6 months ago
what was the big deal about PMRC, wasn't it just warning stickers? i'm basically libertarian about social issues, but it seems these stickers, subjective as they are, merely gave information to the consumer. its like pg-13 or r ratings for movies (yes i heard zappa's attempt to make a distinction between those and the explicit lyrics labels); personally i ignre them and decide whether my kids can see a movie based on my own judgement. some ppl, however, seem to find them helpful...
LetsGoMetsGo33 7 months ago
@LetsGoMetsGo33 Yes but hindsight is 20/20. People were concerned about legsislation that could be inacted once you give Uncle Sam a foot in the door.
demonhoopa 7 months ago
@LetsGoMetsGo33
the pmrc tried banning videos and censoring rock music all together. what only ended up happening was that the sticker goes on people's albums. the sticker was an epic failure because it gave people all the more reason to buy the album.

bruno13532 5 months ago
@iluvroknrol93 Yes! I remember watching one of those "History of" shows on VH1, and one rocker (I can't remember who anymore) said "When I heard they were gonna put warning stickers on our records, I said, 'DO IT!'"
BTW, does anybody out there know who said that, and what show it was on? It would've been on VH1, sometime in the last two years. I'd appreciate it.
gspendlove 3 months ago
@gspendlove
well, bret michaels said that it only gave kids all the more reason to buy the records, if that helps.
iluvroknrol93 3 months ago
@iluvroknrol93 Thanks for responding. I'm not sure it was Bret; if it'd been him, I probably would've remembered it was him, only because he's been in the public eye over the last few years. It might have been someone like Sebastian Bach -- but most definitely a member of an '80s hair metal band.

Screw the PMRC. Hopefully, the American people won't elect a Bible thumper like Sarah Palin as president in 2012 who may attempt to bring back this nonsense again.
8 years of religious nuts influencing GW Bush's policies was too much as is.
As much as I don't like hip hop, groups like 2 Live Crew kept freedom of expression alive for today's artists.
nightfrog65 9 months ago 5
@nightfrog65 This was actually a joint effort. Some members of the PMRC were "Bible Thumping" Socially Conservative Republicans attempting to legislate morality, while others were "Big Government" Liberal Democrats attempting to "protect Americans from their own ignorance" about "potentially harmful" and "morally questionable" lyrics, album art, and live performances. BOTH parties were AND STILL ARE equally guilty of attempting to control Americans' private lives through legislation.
OmniphonProductions 8 months ago
@OmniphonProductions
Thanks for the clarification. Whether it's Bible thumpers or big-government liberals, the government has no business regulating the music industry-they will get their sales tax from retailers and concert halls regardless of the genre and lyrics.
This was another example of spouses of high-ranking politicians (i.e. Tipper Gore) pretending that their spouse's authority transfers to them by default of marriage.
nightfrog65 8 months ago
@nightfrog65 AMEN!!! Now, here's a puzzle. Is your opinion of Al Gore's credibility as the poster child for the Global Warming movement in any way diminished by his behavior at these hearings? I'm not commenting one way or the other on Global Warming. That's a different discussion altogether. However, it troubles me that the main spokesman is Al Gore. Find the full 3-Video set on YouTube of Dee Snider's testimony. You'll hate Gore like never before.
OmniphonProductions 8 months ago
@OmniphonProductions Sorry to but in but if you get a bullshitter like Gore in to front an agenda then you either don't care what people think or you're deluded. It's like getting Gary Glitter to promote the Save The Children charity.
killanimalsforfun247 8 months ago
@killanimalsforfun247 HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Don't be sorry, at all, about butting in. You've just reinforced my point. How in the name of all that is decent and holy did Al Gore, who has no specialized education is any scientific aspect of the Global Warming concept, get an Oscar and a Nobel, when all he did was compile other people's research, excluding all research that didn't validate his preconceived opinion? Again, I'm not commenting on Global Warming itself, but their spokesman is a joke.
OmniphonProductions 8 months ago

Frank Zappa cared about the Constitution. Congress didn't care about the Constitution then and they sure as hell don't give a shit about it now. Let's clone Frank Zappa 535 times and set all of them up to run for every position of Congress and President.

@ACDC7369 Bing!.
MrGziss 9 months ago
@ACDC7369 Yeah I agree they don't give a shit about it now, and didn't then, and probably hasn't for a long time. I've heard that many things have inconspicuously been changed in the Constitution, presumably by the Government (of course). Leave it up to them... I'm guessing we'll see that Constitution *further* changing until it's something we don't recognize at all, and probably eventually gotten rid of entirely, along with all the freedoms it stands for. I don't think that's too far away...
tall32guy 6 months ago
@tall32guy They can't actually change the Constitution without amending it. But to Congress and the President, the amendment process is too much of an inconvenience and a hassle, so they just flat out ignore the Constitution and push whatever unconstitutional agenda through that they feel like...and the American People let them get away with it. I agree though that we may be coming to a point soon where the Constitution will be scrapped, this youngest generation cares less about it than ever
