  • I never dreamed that it might be possible for mere mortals like me to able to tap into a cars OBD. This is sensational. Thanks for posting another great video.

  • ahh i never knew a gadget like this existed, shame it is in metric though, would have bought it

  • really nice video!

  • I'm ashamed to admit that I laughed at FagDrive.

  • I want one!

  • This is a "parsimonious" video. =p

  • Thanks for the review. I was rather interested in it until you mention it is metric only. Oh well!. You saved me a good lump of cash. None of the other vid reviews of this on Youtube or the site that sells these mention

that major detail. You did a public service. Signed, Not Metric from Texas.

  • @uzibeatle That's why I'm here. Glad you saved your money.

  • Your video went viral on Reykjavik

  • Metric for the win! Another great video!

  • you go through cars like crazy, we've had our Lexus LS300 since '99

  • Please review the ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII module! =D

  • Have you been able to improve your mileage with it? If yes how do you do it?

  • @Battery9876 Well it doesn't really do anything electronically to reduce fuel consumption - it just makes you aware of how your driving affects it. So you can set little challenges for yourself - such as keeping the economy below a certain amount for a journey etc. I found that I got an extra 10mpg (approx) from the last tank just from being more aware of the affect my actions have.

  • @Techmoan What do you do? You drive more slowly, you accelerate less and you try to coast?

  • @Battery9876 Yes, that's pretty much it.

  • @Techmoan and how many mpg can you get by doing that?

  • Great review thx!

  • I like how you always push buttons when you first unbox something

  • Ok, I take that back about the mic - I agree it's rubbish! I do however believe this might just be the camera I'm looking for to install in my car. The recycle recording is much needed but I just need a way to make it start recording automatically when the ignition is turned on. I think the Contour HD video video is better but no recycle record. The Hero 2 has just come out here too with vastly improved video but that's $300 :( Still think I may have to build summon with an Arduino.

  • How many cars have you gotten during your mid life crisis?

  • @heroineworshipper Just the two so far (and a bike).

  • Good review. Interesting item.

  • Maybe your a big Ol' Dirty Bastard fan and thats why you kept saying ODB.

  • Driving at 70 whilst holding a camera :| Surely you could have moved it away from that shelf.

Otherwise as always nice review, seems to be poor value though.

  • So whats FagDrive...?

  • @LookItsRiceCake That is the Fatigue reminder. It can be set-up to remind you to take a break after a pre-determined period of continuous driving. It beeps (as long as beep hasn't been turned off) and flashes up the message "Please do not drowsy drive"

  • And again, great review, honest, straightforward, you should become an affiliate for these companies. They should pay you big money!

  • Get an audi mate :D

  • We've got a Smart too. Not a nice posh new one like yours though, ours is an '05' Passion... Is yours the Diesel?

  • @cloggsy1971 Mines definitely not posh.....second hand 2009 Passion 999cc Petrol.

  • I'm sold!

I love this kind of tech stuff, is there a way of using an ipad or iphone as the interface?

  • @locouk You can use an Android device with a Bluetooth ODB-II device - but IOS devices need a WiFi connector. Look at the PLXKiWi website for info about their app and WiFi dongle.

  • @Techmoan I've found it, Kiwi do a wifi version for the iphone, it uses the REV app. The cost is £115.00 which I think is worth it. Thanks for the fast reply.

  • great video as always. Not knowing metric shows your age :P

  • cool gadget but I still cant help laughing at these so called smart cars, my old geo metro from the early 90's was capable of almost 50mpg and that was nearly 20 years ago they should be getting well over 100mpg by now.

  • Metric system is dominate. All hail the glorious metric system!

  • Nice review. I've owned the ScanGauge for about 5 years. I've always calculated mpg in every car I've owned since my first car in 1970... every tank, mind you. The ScanGauge has only been accurate +/- 4 mpg on each tank. The gauge calculates the fuel flow using the throttle position sensor which is not accurate as opposed to an actual fuel flow meter which is used on planes I fly. But, as a driving tool to increase gas mileage it is useful. I, too, don't understand kg/m, or whatever??????

  • @blueskylazer Litres/Kilometre.

    1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litres

    1 miles = 1.609344 kilometers

It's not really that difficult once you convert, especially considering petrol is sold in litres, and most advertisements will advertise in metric. As a guideline 8L/100km is good for a small car, medium - 12L/100km, and 4wds get 16-18+L/100km

  • Nice little device, I wonder if the instructions show how I would wire it in to my 1970s wiring loom. To be honest I don't want to see my MPG, I'll just scare myself and crash. Great review as always.

  • "FagDefault?

  • what was wrong with the other car ?

  • Metric system ftw ^^

  • @5:27 FagDrive Set? lol

  • What happened to the MX5?

  • How much money do you have!?

  • @SpheredShadow An ever diminishing amount.

  • @Techmoan Diminishing? Really LOL! Seems like you've got an everlasting supply with all the toys you buy! Chinavasion must absolutely love you. They'll have your picture on there website soon with the words "Our best customer" below.

  • Shimmy shimmy yah! Shimmy yee! Shimmy yay! Gimme the mic, so I can take it away.

  • I went for a bluetooth OBD dongle that I pair with my Android phone.

Using that and the 'Torque' App, I can get a nicely cusomisable display, as well as log the data if I feel like it.

Since I already had the phone, it works out cheaper than buying a single-purpose device, and using the phone's sensors, you can get even more information.

  • @PyroSA send me a link to this device, please

  • @MrRivii I bought SKU# 42825 at DealExtreme.

It's a bargain at $22 in my opinion.

  • this thing would be pretty useful for me, but i don't think my 97 Renault Clio have a standard OBD connector :|

  • Love them smart cars ,do still have the mazda and the 500cc honda?

  • @benny5825 I've just got the MX5 and the Smart now. It's quite possible that the MX5 will have to go....but we'll see.

  • Metric system YAY!

  • you bought a smart! really...

  • haha, metric!

Learn it, then we can all mock the Americans :D

  • You're going to get yourself sectioned for buying a smart car! I used an interface that plugs in to the diagnostics port on my car to activate/enable features not already on unless you bought a higher spec model. I have speed dependant locking, windows up and down with remote, DRL, cruise control, loads of extras. Check if you can use your device to program the car via the diagnostics menu. Best to read how to do it on the forums. l/100km? My 1.7 turbo diesel uses 4litres at 70mph.

  • 5th

  • What a cool device, really thinking about buying one of those. All those pieces of information really expensive cars have on their board computer, BMW etc., in a much cheaper car.

Great, thanks for making this video!

    mfG diiebane

  • hes being iligle
