Hey dude. I know it's not conventionally attractive, but I totally love how all your pedals are just laying on your floor. Shows you're more about sound than aesthetics.
i think the main difference i notice between boss pedals and electro harmonix pedals is that EH pedals act like an independent pedal that doesn't blend well with overdrive or other modulation pedals. Boss pedals blend well while paired with other pedals
Hi man! I really love your style of playing!!!! Seeing that you have many pedals, can you recomend most the rv5 or the electro harmonix cathedral? I think i like the cathedral better. i find it less robotic. But to know what you think about it will help me. Thanks
I really like the RV-5, its definitely a digital reverb, but as a wide range of versatile tones. I love the modulation reverb, i use that setting around 95% of the time. I have never used a EH Cathedral so couldnt really offer any insight r comparitive view with an RV-5
@barstia I've had the cathedral but sold it. It has some neat features and can get some weird sounds but i found that it was way too bright and sharp for my taste. I had to roll the tone down all the way to get a decent sound. It's still a pretty good reverb but I think the rv-5 is much better and the fact that it costs less is a bonus!
They can be yes. Depends on the type of reverb tone your after. Analog units will be more natural, but digital reverb units can be more versatile in their range of tones but can be abit sterile, depends what your looking for really
like your taste in music. I got this pedal for the "modulate" which is very ethereal to me. It reminds me of the spacey subway tube sound on Coldplay's Lovers in Japan track (although that is synth but the verb is very distinct and similar to this). Thanks for posting
@FreddyKoshMusic I really like modulation plus reverb, but the new Hardwires have Lexicon based verbs and the mod is more intense than this. I own this and want to trade for the Hardwire. I need an analog delay, I like mod. and its pointless to spend xtra if my verb has mod, but its gotta be stronger thats y i gotta figure out what to do.
oh, thats really cool, does it sound better than a phase 90 or small stone? cus i think those two are among the best anolog phaser pedals on the market, but i don't know how the moog on compares for the price
Its digital so generally its quiet. I don't find it colours my tone either on or off. As with most reverb pedals it works well with fuzz/overdrive etc with subtle settins, but if its up too high it aint so great
Why don't you believe him? It's not exactly a difficult song to figure out: the notes are entirely clear and it's pretty damn simple and clean melody line. Craig was totally honest about it, because it's not a big deal. What I find absurd is you doubting he could find it out by ear when any decent guitarist (which Craig is) could do so.
Hi. I have an amp hot rod deluxe -fender- and a boss delay - octaver. One person offer me this pedal RV-5. What do you think? It's enough whith the amp reverb and delay pedal or the rv-5 give me a lot of possibilities?
Your amp reverb will almost certainly be a standard spring reverb, which will sound nice. The RV-5 will offer you deeper and more varied reverb sounds, but it repally depends on the style of music your playing and whether u need big reverbs.
This demonstration would have been a far more useful demonstration of the reverb effect if you had let the notes ring out instead of playing continuously. Great song though. I love Radiohead.
A true bypass pedal preserves the original signal when the pedal is off. A buffered pedal will still influence the original signal even though it's turned off.
I love my RV-5. I bought a DD-3, but for some reason when I got the pedal out, it was an RV-5. I called BOSS and asked them what to do and they said I could either trade it or keep it (they were really nice about it). Man am I glad I stuck with it...it's a tad more complicated to learn, but it has so much potential.
Personally I think its alot better, not a huge fan of the Line 6 Tonecore range. I bought a Line 6 Tremolo to use in the studio last year as I need a tremolo with a tap tempo and very square wave sound. It was awful very noisey. Replaced it now with a TC Electronic Nova Modulation Pedal. Would also recommend looking at the Nova Reverb aswell, very good unit.
I'm gonna buy a reverb pedal soon, trying to decide between the electro-harmonix holy grail+, RV-5, and the Line6 Verbzilla. Verbzilla seems to have the most features by far, but which do you recommend? I play indie music with some ambient stuff, looking for some great ambient sounds and some more subtle reverb as well. Thanks!
By the way. I know you use quite a bit of delay in your vids but do you use it live and when rehearsing? I've got an RV-5 but it tends to mud my tone a bit. Any tricks up your sleeve?
I use lots of delay dude, I have a Keeley modified DD-3, TC Electronics Nova Delay and DL4 on my board + the RV-5 and TC Nova Reverb as my reverb.
Make sure your using your amps effects loop for the delay and reverb and thatyou have things in the correct order. If you aint sure about this stuff email me, I have a 'how to' email!
Hey. Yeah I've kinda got everything sorted when it comes to order. Problem might be that the effects loop on my amp is reeaaaaally bad. In a bad way. But then agian I have a really cheap amp. My delays sound fine but the reverb just keeps messing up. Anyways I'll be getting a new amp after christmas (probably a Vox AC 30 :D )
Try dialling down the amount of reverb your using dude, its largely a subtle effect for me.
Your amp might be the problem as you said dude. Nice tube amps sound great. (You probably already intend to do this but...) My advice would be to do your research and play any amp u intend buying a few times with your own guitar and your own pedal setup, even if it means lugging stuff to the local store with you.
Thanks for the advice man. My current amp is a solid state high gain, great gain channel but everything else is awfull so it'll be nice to get something new in for clean sounds. I'll definetely be bringing my own guitar and at least some of my pedals to the store a couple of times before handing over the cash. btw, how's EP and pedalboard coming along?
Cool nice one. EP is done, we are still sourcing the best folk to duplicate and print the EP so we can seel it for as cheap as possible but without compromising the sound or the artwork etc. Floorboard willbe finsihed early next year, still playing about with certain effects and positions etc. Want to get it right before I spend money on a custom build board!
Just make sure it'll be lightweight and "carriable". Ive got a nice stonecastle board. It's great but carrying it really sucks sins it's so heavy...but I guess you figured that already..
Yeh Im gonna split mine in two dude. Wahs, volume pedal, whammy pedal etc on a small board. Then have the 20+ stompers + gig rig etc on main board. Gonna be a custom build so will get wheels put on it like keyboard cases so I can drag it. It will weigh a ton!
Haven't actually though about wheels. Good idea. My next project will be kinda similar to yours. I'll be splitting up into one preamp and one "loop"-board. Looking forward to the demo of the full rig! :P
Yeh should defo look into the Gig Rig products dude. I use the Pro 14, but the midi 8 is also very handy. It means u can connect all your pre amp and fx loop pedals to one unit and it will turn them all on and off with the switch of only one button. Just removes all the tap dancing from pedal use. Also improves your tone as any pedal that isnt being used is removed from the signal path = no loss of signal. Would highly recommend it, has changed my playing, tone and setup massively!
I like the RV-5 for deep heavy reverbs dude, not very 70's. Most 70's reverbs were probably produced using amp spring reverbs or whilst recording using post effects or natural room and hall reverbs with regards to ambient mic placements. I am not a big fan of the RV-5 for such reverbs it sounds too digital and sterile for those natural organic reverb sounds in my opinion. Try something like the T-Rex Room-Mate reverb or the spring reverb on a good tube amp.
nice vid man, sounds pretty awesomee. Listened to a demonstration called rv-5 tone demo - Bass 2 on Boss Us website. Sounded pretty weird compared to whats in this vid but just wondering if you can get a sound like that on guitar aswell as on the bass. Or something like it atleast. yea
I have a boss dd3 delay pedal and I want to upgrade my pedalboard. What do you think i should buy next? Boss dd6 delay pedal (I want the loop function) or this reverb rv-5?
Just look into getting a cheap reverb and delay pedals. You dounfortuntely get wht u pay for when it comes to fx. But no reason why u cant squeeze decent tones out of cheaper gear with practice, then build up to bying higher end stuff later.
true that!, in my band, i'm getting mogwai'ish tones & sounds just with an Boss ME50 multi-effects unit! :P - the delay and reverb on that thing is waaaay better than the amount of money you pay for it
Thats the whole point so u can hear the same riff with the different settings. The sound is dependant on the notes u are playing, so if I play a different song for every mode its hardly a comparison is it. Post some videos then I might acknowledge ur opinion.
savermoon seems to listen to much sailermoon.your opinion is stupid. its great that craig puts up all these different vids, so i have an opprtunity to get knowledge about the different pedals and to know which one i should buy, thx again craig
hey man. brilliant pedal the rv-5, I have one myself.great stuff. are you gonnademo the moog you have back there? and quesiton number two. is that a NOVA system standing by the chair? what's it like? I mean compared to their other stuff/other multieffects and stompboxes? (and hey, how's the record coming on?)
Yeh man al get round to demoing the Moog eventually! Its a G-Natural in the background, for my acoustic rig, cool pedal. EP is pretty much finished, delayed as our engineer broke his collarbone so we havent been able to get back in2 the studio to finish it yet.
There is no delay on the RV-5. I am using a TC Electronics Nova delay to add some analog delay. The details are listed in the video description and in the video annotations. Cheers
I always place reverbs last in my signal path dude. Delay tends to be second last, I do however have a phase pedal before and after my delay pedals so I can add phase to the delayed signal.
I dont have a tab dude, just playing it from ear. Its not that difficult a song to work out. Its played entirely on the A, D and G strings. First chord shape is, u pick the notes individually using upstrokes:
I agree, I must help them sell quite a few pedals!
Alot of them are being replaced on my board tho. My BD-2 and DD-3 are being modified by Keeley elctronics. My MT-2 has already been modified by Keeley. And my OD-3 and CE-5 are being replaced by a Fulltone OCD and TC Electronics Nova Modulation. So only remaining stock Boss Pedals will be PH-3, TU-2 and RV-5. Plus the FS-6's I use for switching stuff.
Robert Keeley Eelectronics is a company that builds high quality guitar effects. They also modify, as I mentioned, other companies pedals including Boss. The add extra features, improve the components and overall improve the quality fo the pedal. Check out their website dude. You will find their pedals on most pro players pedalboards.
Not yet man. This vid was done as request for someone in a hurry. When I have more time I will do a series of Nova Delay videos dude, like I have with the Line 6 DL4. Should be up this month.
Hey dude. I know it's not conventionally attractive, but I totally love how all your pedals are just laying on your floor. Shows you're more about sound than aesthetics.

hey man. brilliant pedal the rv-5, I have one myself.great stuff. are you gonnademo the moog you have back there? and quesiton number two. is that a NOVA system standing by the chair? what's it like? I mean compared to their other stuff/other multieffects and stompboxes? (and hey, how's the record coming on?)
FootyBrain 3 years ago
Yeh man al get round to demoing the Moog eventually! Its a G-Natural in the background, for my acoustic rig, cool pedal. EP is pretty much finished, delayed as our engineer broke his collarbone so we havent been able to get back in2 the studio to finish it yet.

just the song we should to hear when regarding a reverb review, nice work
flearulz 3 years ago
Are you using a Boss delay with your Boss reverb. Or is there a slight delay in the RV-5?
Floppygreenwood 3 years ago
There is no delay on the RV-5. I am using a TC Electronics Nova delay to add some analog delay. The details are listed in the video description and in the video annotations. Cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
where do you place the rv-5? before the delay or after? thanks
pacoymarquez 3 years ago
I always place reverbs last in my signal path dude. Delay tends to be second last, I do however have a phase pedal before and after my delay pedals so I can add phase to the delayed signal.

You're skills are fantastic!
Could you send me a tab for this if you have one? The ones online seem too high pitched
emotrashkiddo 3 years ago
I dont have a tab dude, just playing it from ear. Its not that difficult a song to work out. Its played entirely on the A, D and G strings. First chord shape is, u pick the notes individually using upstrokes:
G:7
D:5
A:7

Dude, Boss pedals should totally sponsor your or endorse you or something, seeing as you have so many :D
stc423 3 years ago
I agree, I must help them sell quite a few pedals!
Alot of them are being replaced on my board tho. My BD-2 and DD-3 are being modified by Keeley elctronics. My MT-2 has already been modified by Keeley. And my OD-3 and CE-5 are being replaced by a Fulltone OCD and TC Electronics Nova Modulation. So only remaining stock Boss Pedals will be PH-3, TU-2 and RV-5. Plus the FS-6's I use for switching stuff.
Cheers
craigmcarthur1 3 years ago
why are you modifing them?
what/who is keeley?
StanwoodSpartans 3 years ago
Robert Keeley Eelectronics is a company that builds high quality guitar effects. They also modify, as I mentioned, other companies pedals including Boss. The add extra features, improve the components and overall improve the quality fo the pedal. Check out their website dude. You will find their pedals on most pro players pedalboards.
